View Full Version : Chenier's Guide to building a corner teak fireplace (as seen in "The Fireplace Thread")

From numerous requests and the fact that I needed to rebuild mine anyway, I've put together a pictorial guide to building a corner fireplace (see the thread on my house, <a target="_blank" href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=homeshow&message.id=778">Postcards from Erollisi Lane</a> and the stickied thread on fireplaces, <a target="_blank" href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=homeshow&message.id=46">Fireplace Ideas</a>, which from my fireplace is based).Ingredients:1 small ash ornate table OR a small alder militia table2 long ornate shelves2 standard ash bookcases2 teak bookcases2 boars heads1 thexian wine rackdecorationspatience!<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/1.jpg">1. Start by rotating one of the teak bookcases on a 45 degree angle with the shelves facing the corner. I use the parquet floor squares to line things up (this is where the patience comes in because I personally find it UNPOSSIBLE to get the angles perfect =P).<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/2.jpg">Scooch the teak bookcase into the corner so that the sides are somewhat into the corner walls. This placement usually takes a couple of tries because it's hard to judge how far into the corner the bookcase goes, as you'll see in the next few steps.2. Place a long ornate shelf along the back of the bookcase, near the floor. The "'curlies" at the end of the shelf will be in the floor; this is front kind of "pedestal" the fireplace sits on. Make sure it's centered on the corner.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/3.jpg">3. Move the bookcase further back into the corner and place the second long ornate shelf to match the first. This is a temporary placement that I find required for stacking the ash bookcases and table on top.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/4.jpg">Once you've got the second shelf in place, move the teak bookcase out of the way.NOTE!!! Once you have a piece of furniture rotated the way you want it, DO NOT PICK IT UP! Just move it. If it's picked up, it will loose the rotation you just worked so hard to get.4. More rotating. =P Rotate your ash (or alder militia) table to 45 degrees; again, I use the parquet floor for the alignment.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/5.jpg">5. Place the ash/militia table on the shelves for a placement check. As you can see, the table is too far back into the wall, which meansI put the long ornate shelves too far into the corner, so I had redo from step 1.Remember to just move the table, not pick it up!<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/6.jpg">6. Time for fire! Place the boarheads evenly in the corner; find some corner or bit on the boar's head so you can line them up with each other, eyeball it whatever. Note: Don't put them too far away from the corner or you'll have "fire leakage" from the sides of the fireplace.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/7.jpg">7. Rotation time! Rotate both small ash bookcases 45 degrees, one with the shelves facing to the right, the other to the left, and then place them on either side of the shelves. I find putting them as close to the edge as possible the best position.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/8.jpg">8. Place the table on top of this mess. The table feet will stick out a bit, but that's part of the charm. Be sure to get it centered from side to side.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/9.jpg">Note the bit of fire leaking out the top = boar's heads placed a bit too high. This is okay; the chimney will cover it. Just be sure to check all sides of the fireplace as you are placing things so you can correct mistakes as you go along.9. Remove the long ornate shelf in the back. Be very careful NOT to pull anything other than the back shelf. I usually do an examine on the item I'm mousing over to verify before picking up.(you can't see the mouse pointer in this picture, but just showing the examine verification)<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/10.jpg">10. Oh boy rotation again! /scowl... Place your thexian wine rack on the shelf just inside the ash bookcases; make sure it's centered.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/11.jpg">11. Place your previously rotated teak bookcase on top of the table. As you can see in this picture, I've put it too far back into the corner because I still have some fire leakage, so I scooched it forward a bit after this screenshot.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/13.jpg">12. Rotate the other teak bookcase to match the first and then get on a chair; we need to get vertical!<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/14.jpg">13. Place the second teak bookcase on top of the first, but back further into the corner. This will give you the appearance of a graduated fireplace. You can stack directly on top of each other, but the graduated appearance hides non-perfectly rotated bookcases wonderfully (not that I would do that!).<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/15.jpg">14. Place the second long ornate shelf along the second teak bookcase, sinking it into the top of the first bookcase. This will make it mimic the look of the long ornate shelf that serves as the platform beneath. Make sure that the shelf is centered in the corner (I look at the "curlies"<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/17.jpg">15. Fireplace is done! Now to decorate...The fireplace by itself is pretty plain, so I highly suggest candles, knickknacks, paintings, etc.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/18.jpg">16. All done! Note: If you're looking for a rug for this fireplace, I highly suggest the tier 4 rare rug, <a target="_blank" href="http://eq2.eqtraders.com/images/articles/chic_cloth_rug_book.jpg">chic cloth rug</a>, as it's colors are a pretty perfect match to the colors in the fireplace.<img src="http://www.onlinethingy.com/files/eqhouse/19.jpg">Hope you enjoy this guide. Please let me know if you have any questions and by all means, make suggestions for improvements and variations!! Again, big thanks to those who originally designed this fireplace, located in the Fireplace Ideas thread!!<div></div>

<div>Wonderful guide Chenier! And brilliant use of the boar's heads- I never thought of that and have actually been destroying them of late since I have so many. This is a great use for them.</div><div> </div><div>Thank you for posting this. Going to link this in our guild's forum as a great "How To" guide :smileyvery-happy:</div><div> </div><div>Regarding where to get the flaming boar's heads: It is a reward from the Splitpaw Solo Arena, in the chest that attacks you after you defeat the arena champion. That is also where you get that cute little mushroom pet. </div><div> </div><div>Xyla and the Frog</div><div>Lost Coast Privateers, Nektulos</div>

<div></div>Actually don't think you need to beat the champion to get the flaming boar head, I never beat him atleast and everytime after I killed the flaming dreadsnout and quit I was able to get the head out of the chest everytime.

Whatever it is, the last mob before the Champion, you get the option to quit...and when you do, you get a chest dropped (or maybe its one of those chest mobs that you kill and then the chest drops) and you get the SP items. I never was able to beat the arena Champion as a warlock....and got so fed up with Splitpaw before they made the big changes to it that I never bothered to go back. Guess i'll have to to stock up on some flaming boar heads =D

The painting is called "Fine Painting of a Riding Knight." Unfortunately, I believe it is no longer available. You might check the broker, though. I found one there.<div></div>

<div>I'm currently taking note of nice ideas like this as I plan to move to a larger house soon. Unfortunately the boars heads are quite hard to get for a player of my adventure level as they have nerfed the rewards in splitpaw for over 50s.</div><div> </div><div>I specifically went to have a look and didn't get any reward for chewing through the mobs (understandable, it was a trivial task at my level) and then went back home to examine the boars head I already have from completing the solo arena previously and found it was indeed no-trade (no-value too).</div><div> </div><div>There is however still the option open of doing the splitpaw solo arena and putting it in my home with the alt as trustee.</div><div> </div><div>If you're sub 50 and in to housing make sure you run through the splitpaw solo arena several times to keep your options open later, I thought the thing looked ugly and didn't fit in with my house initially and now I'm regretting not getting more as I'd like atleast two fireplaces (yes I know I can do it with other items). I'm now starting to worry if I've missed out on any of the other furniture rewards from splitpaw as I just did the minimum to get my glowing shard.</div>

If getting boar's heads is not possible for you, you might try asking folks in guild, etc. who might have extras. Between myself and I hubby, I think we have 40 or so (a little game we played to see who could complete Champions faster, lol). Anyway, if you find someone with extras, see if they'll place a couple in your house for you -- I certainly would give you some if you are on AB. =)Granted, you'll loose them if and when you move, but for higher level characters, they are easy to come by and I'm sure someone would happy to help you.<div></div>

I am unable to find the "standard ash bookcases" in my list of recipes. Sites state it is a lvl 22 recipes. I have both Capenter 22 and Advanced carpenter 22. Is this no longer an available recipe?<div></div>

I am cheap and atm cant afford any of the adventure packs, so the boar heads I cant get myself.I also like the Mystic Feysteel Scones due to the blue flames.Would those work in place of the boar heads?<div></div>

I have two of the mystic sconces inside the fireplace pictured above, although I'm using the red ones. I did try the blue ones in the fireplace, tho, and they work equally well. <div></div>

I found that 1 Mystic Feysteel Sconce is plenty for this and it works.Had to use the Granite Pedistal to get the flame to fit, but it accualy added to the fireplace as kinda a marble area in front of it (dunno what that is called). One problem I ran into is flame leakage, prolly an easy fix, but the sconce has alot of blue flame in a big area. Even leaking threw the sides and I having troubles fixing that, I might put 2 bookcases on the sides (shelves facing away from wall) so you can use em for bookcase for a reading corner.<div></div>

I did the arena a second time and they made this thing so freakin simple I was even more disappointed in it.The first time I managed to beat the group of three then fought the champion before the combat revamp, I was disappointed. He is and was so easy to defeat compared to those three, now the entire thing is just too easy to defeat.
A beautiful fireplace !!!!greetings Mu!

It's very picky work, and I'm used to the frustration of placing decorative housing items or so I thought. Thank you so very much for the excellent walkthrough. It was time to replace my very primitive stone fireplace with something more refined. My 3 room house looks less like a cave in that one corner now, and I'm quite pleased the final result. Cheers, and thanks again. Had I not seen screenshots knowing this was possible, I would have given up after the 15th bungled "just not quite right" placement.<div></div>
