Hello,It took me a while to figure out where to post this. This place seems appropriate.Ever since I got this game, I have been playing the Good side on and off. Never really had time to play more than one character. Now I feel that I need a change of pace and experience what the evil side has to offer. I have been creating evil alts left and right on most servers but I keep running into the same problem. The evil side is more or less deserted. I run around the starting towns, do searches for players online and even run to what I would assume would be an attraction point (t1-t2 only) but I always find very few people on and most of them too high for me to run into at this point. One server I tried was Antonia Bayle which had a heavy overall population and is an RP server. I expected to find alot of people on the evil side, but it was actually one of the most deserted servers on the evil side that i've seen. Even people on its public chat channels confirmed it.I guess i'm wondering now if the evil side has been always unpopular. I just never caught on. More than one person told me that the rudeness of the NPCs on the evil side is just not appealing to many and has been a main reason for people staying away. (we get this enough in real life bla bla bla)Also, I understand that lots of people are trying the new Fae race and that could be a good reason for what i'm noticing. But the t1 and t2 zones on Qeynos side seem decently populated.Anyway, if anyone can recommend a server for me that is decently populated across all levels on the evil side, I would appreciate it. I hate working on characters only to end up deserting them. So i'd like to get it right before I get in too deep. I'm not into pvp, so i'd prefer a regular or RP server. (well one of those is out :mansad:Oh and if any cute Dark Elf Mistress needs a follower... drop me a line :manhappy:

If you want heavy evil populations, the PVP servers are where to find it. Unfortunately on the PVE servers, the lower levels are pretty desolate and finding a group is difficult until higher tiers. I mostly play PVE on Unrest and find that the evil population is healthy, but all my toons there are evil and lvl 52+

Evil on AB has always been pretty good for me. Might be off hours or just people on vacation or something. There are a good amount of RP guilds and such if you poke around though, you should be able to find people to play with. Maybe even a mistress to serve if you're lucky

In every MMO, you'll always find many more players of the 'good' races. It's just a fact of gaming life. I would venture a guess that its usually 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of good:bad at least.

It's just one of those things, that most of the casual players tend to play good races. Most people like the hoity toity good towns with their happy green grass and flower power where nothing goes wrong. Most people dont like the down and dirty evil side, the blood, gore, torture, corruption... etc.

It will always be that way unfortunately. (or fortunately, since i'm a troll myself)

Message Edited by Jabs on 12-24-2006 09:02 AM

As far as gameplay functions go, Freeport newbie grounds and Commonlands are actually superior to Qeynos newbie zones and Antonica. The quest are more centralized, the zones are a little more interesting (Unless you happen to be a prime grass lover, since 80% of the areas around Qeynos consist entirely of grass plains). However, Freeport itself seems to be more than a letdown, like a big letdown. The city design is terrible (I recall back when you needed to do promotionary quest to become your subquest, it would take 2-3 hours of running around alone for scouts), incredibly ugly and overall has the sort of connotations of being a ghetto, evident by the NPCs repeatingly stating they want to stab you, steal your socks, and drink...urine? (Ok, i could have expected that from an insane troll).

But what Jabs says is the truth, the fact never lies except on PvP servers. As much as we all hate to admit it, we love cliches, thats exactly why they work. Between being beautiful people, dual wielding glowing swords and defeating evil and always winning, or being some kind of less-than-intelligent 8 foot tall wrinkly pale blob living in the slums. Perhaps i'm exagerating a bit, but if you look at the elf population in preportion to any other racial group, you'll find that they vastly dominate the charts, probably all elven races making up about 40-50% of the actual game's population, and the more the looks stray away from very humanoid, the less population there is (Eg. the extreme large and extreme small, ogres and halflings are among the least played races).

I'm relatively new to this game and the world of MMO in general (around a month), so keep that in mind when reading my opinion.

I started with the trial software, which left me on the Island for 7 days. Tried a new toon every day and even 3 one day. At first, I choose the good side for all the cliched reasons. I actually found only a couple of nice alt farmers that would talk to me or help me with anything.

One of the things I wanted from this game was a little challenge - after playing D&D and RPG since I was an @ running around the screen, I've become bored with mob stupidity. So, I tried Nagafen PvP and went with the Evil side this time around.

I found many helpful alt farmers and new alts here. Lots of people are willing to help out a newbie. I would go so far as to say that I've actually only met as many rude people here as I met friendly people on the good side of Refuge Island.

Am disappointed at the overall uglies of FP, but still would rather "live" in a place where a lvl18 can /tell for directions to a lvl70 galloping by on his horse and have him stop and help.

As for my desiring a little challenge with PvP, yes we seem to be grossly outnumbered here, but also we seem to cooperate because of it. I'm still trying to get used to playing with actual people, but look forward to the time when I know what I'm doing enough to be a little more effective and helpful in groups, and, therefore, not get killed 25 times a day by the Q.

I find evil side on most mmorpgs is light compared to the good side... Which is fine with me! I have always played on the evil side, have never had a desire to make a "good" character.

I much prefer Freeport to Qeynos. May not be the prettiest but it is what I would expect from evil beings who are only interested in utility and lazi...err um easy way of doing things.

I do like how close everything is. Going from like the far side of NQ to zone into QH is far far far to far run. I can make it from NFP to WFP to the broker in EFP (including zone times) in half the time to get to the QH zone line.

I like what the NPC's on FP side say and how they say it too. It cracks me up. I do think a few are too nice there and should be a bit more evil though. Qeynos side is just tooooo sweet and syrupy for me. "Here's a flower for you." It's like being in a airport full of Hari Krishnas wanting to be your friend and show you the way to a greater life. Gag!

Freeport for the win!

I prefer the intuitive city payout of Qeynos over freeport. That is the deciding factor for me. I could live with the run-down condition of freeport, but the population and upkeep of Qeynos is preferable.

You may want to check out Lucan DLere server. We have a very active and numerous evil community. In my groups, there are always evil classes and whatnot.

If you join Anotnia Bayle and don't mind trying your hand at actual role-playing - I'd encourage you to join an evil-aligned guild. There are many of them on AB and several very well-established and large evil-aligned guilds. My own - Vermin - is one of them. We accept all races that are evil aligned with the majority of us being ratonga with a few ogre sprinkled in. I don't think that AB's evil population is small at all but I do think that if you sign on at an off-time like 4am-4pm EST that it might be significantly harder to find people to group with or chat with. AB is very heavy after about 5pm EST until about 1am EST.

I do admit that my hours are off relative to North America's time zone. I am afterall in a different time zone. And while my current home server (Everfrost) is mainly populated by North Americans, it is still decently active. The public chat channels never shut up no matter what the time of the day is.. and I mean never. The WW crafting room is always busy. This doesn't mean that I always get a group, but more or less it's not so bad. Especially during the weekends. I'm talking about the good side mostly. I play mainly anytime from early dawn to early evening Eastern US time. I'm sure AB is much more active during regular US times, but i'm measuring activity based on my location. Might be not an absolute fair way, but i'm not looking to judge, i'm looking for a an evil side server that I can make a character and invest in confidently. Oh and those Dark Elf Mistresses wont hurt either I recently created a character on Najena which i'm told is considered the unofficial Aussie server. The overall population always shows as medium if not high during all times that I have ever checked. Seems like 24/7 really. But the evil side is still very slow. I have been leveling my Bruiser in the Ruins, and most of the time i'm alone there. Every once and a while, someone drops by, but it's rare. Took a couple of trips to the Commonlands and felt that its the same deal. Searching revealed an average of about 14 characters online at the Commonlands. And here I was, ready to eye every Dark Elf woman that passes by and make my move, turns out that i'm having trouble running into even a Ratonga
