View Full Version : Lesser/Greater Faydark have both terrible Maps

This is what a lot of players told me:They are very frustrated with EoF because they can't find their way espacially in this two zones - both are confusing labyrinths - in the night these players are totally lost. The ingame maps aren't a help, too few details to see where the ways are. SOE, please rework this maps so that players can find their way and do not frustrated logout after 30 min like they do now.

do you know about the horses in lfay?if not...there are horses in lfay in several locations that allow you to travel without getting lost.... just hail every stable master in the zone...as for gfay... well, learning the layout of one zone is asking too much?

they dont have terrible maps they ahve aamazing use of dimensions in the level design which in itself makes it very hard to even design a map for since the map would have to consistantly switch like a floor map. Once you learn the layout you can get anywhere very very quickle as there are a ton of shortcuts.

I have to say that I have trouble finding my way around GF still, but have learned to cut through the town which often makes travel a bit simpler. In LF, although at first it was confusing, you quickly learn where the shortcuts are, especially if you work through the various quest series in the zone. It is particularly important to remember that you CAN jump off a horse before it gets to its destination.

You should be grateful at least they HAVE a map. If i was your mom, if you kept complaining i would take the map away from you completely!! so there!
I agree, some of the new zones are just a pain to find your way around. Seems like no good reason to make it as complicated and although its not such a big deal it is still annoying when you want to go somewhere in a hurry and it takes you 5-10 mins to get to the correct zone line.

I cant think of any zone pre EoF that is so annoying as GFD

I'd be satisfied if they'd add a zoom feature to the in-game map.

I have to agree. Greater Faydark is a bit confusing. I'm not concerned, I'm level 70 and I can run around and explore all day long to learn my way around. I think it's hard as hell to figure out for new toons. My girlfriend just started playing for the very first time and is having a rough go at navigating. For a player that is trying to figure out ASDW movement keys, the map is confusing.

Imagine being a newb, and being asked to join a crushbone group.

What I would suggest is making higher elevations a different in color. Maybe outline the unclimbable walls with red.

Remember, it's much easier to learn the paths when everything is grey and not trying to eat you.

You'd be surprised how much you can memorize if you don't use a map. In the case for L.Fay/G.fay, the maps might not be as helpful as other zones in the game, but at least they give a general direction for you to head in. Then its simply memorizing the twisting and turning paths to get to your destination (which are not all that complicated in the first place.)

I agree on many points. I use maps to point myself in the general direction of my destination but no longer bother using them to decide my path. I've been almost everywhere in GFay and know my way around without help from the map now. The Crushbone Keep map is a different animal since it uncovers the fog on the levels above and below you as you go along on one level/floor. If I spend a lot of time climbing up and down stairs, I'll eventually lose track of which rooms I've explored and which rooms still need to be.

When I first started exploring GFay, I walked along the walls and cliffs in order to uncover all of the fog in my map. Oddly, that didn't work as expected. There were several areas that I couldn't reach that way. Then one day I decided to walk the paths and then came upon a few hollow log bridges that take me to places that I couldn't reach without them. Had I joined a group in those early stages, I'd have been lost trying to get back to the group had I died. So I make it a point never to group when I don't know the zone well enough.

I get pleasure from exploration and I try to do as much of that as I can. The map, being somewhat vague, forces me to find my way around. I learn the zone eventually, after many trips and ending up in the wrong places.

So yes, I wish the maps were better, but will live with them as they are because I'll eventually learn the zones and not need them. I need them most when I enter the zone for the first time.

GFay and LFay RULE!it is advantages for the fae though since they have soft fall....I love jumpin all those cliffs... as for other races. oh well! get used finding the climbable walls or ramps. As for the streams.. also advantages to the fae with Glide... woohoo! I jump over them with ease... Other races? get used looking for the vine or bridge that go over them.
