i wouldn't think there would be any legal problems with that since they already have pig races and a lottery and the coin in game actually has no real world value unless you break the EULA. i do wish there was a more high stakes version of the pig races or something though a 72 silver bet isn't even worth my time to sit there and watch the race lol.

Also, with some random people in the US somewhere wanting to tax MMO players account assets as real world assets (its all on the interweb somewhere, go read about it if you dont know) I would not like to see anything along these lines added until that is sorted out...

Can base your IP out of another country and still call it legal.

Well they have the goblin lotto and the pig races. I just got back from Vegas this weekend and ended out ahead of where I started. I think casino type games would be a hoot except they couldn't be on SE.

edit: It would be even better with comp rewards. I also think this would be a good money sink. I want to be an EQ2 Casino's whale!

Message Edited by Jai1 on 11-01-2006 11:45 AM

I've been saying they need to add various games to the pubs and taverns since I've started playing this game. There needs to be something to do when people want some downtime, but want to socialize.

I agree, the more social interaction the better. That was one of the coolest things about Galaxies, when you wanted to get ridda your Trauma's you went to a doctor adn sometimes you would be waiting in line, or sometimes not...you could talk to people as you get healed and such (same as in the Cantina's)... i mean it was kinda forced interaction, but it was a cool element. Since nothing like that will happen in EQ, a easy nice way to make some social interaction, put in like a couple taverns tables where you play a card game for coin ... that would be amazingly cool. I would probably be more likely to talk to people outside of those in my guild for once.

I'd play strip poker in there and strategically lose a few pieces. Oh yeah. Troll intimidation FTW

choices! Do I wanna get yelled at for necroing or do I wanna get yelled at for not searching?

I have feebacked this suggestion and wanted to highlight it on the forums too. Id like to see card games (using norrathian currency) in taverns. These activities could possibly liven up cities. I e 2-man (heads-up), 6-man and 10-man texas hold em tables

Also there could be tournaments, with a grand prize like plat, or an item from LoN or SC store.

Ok for all the fools in this thread who think SOE cannot add any kind of games of chance to EQ2 because "gambling is illegal", let me help you out here. EQ2 is a game of chance. All games are games of chance. What is illegal is gambling for money. When Guild Halls were first announced, I'd hoped there would be little tournament events, maybe cards or some other time-wasting events that give little rewards as a distraction while waiting for a raid or while LFG. They could award in-game items, plat, etc. but probably not StationCash.

I like that idea. You can even make it a Battleground zone.

One side gets to gamble on a ship for money while the other side tries to sink it with cannons before someone wins the main prize.

I searched card games of course. and this was close up top as most relevant, quite surprising.

All games are not a game of chance. The DOJ identifies a difference with games of chance and games of skill - that is the entire reason behind the legalization issue for online poker.

Sony will never let players gamble plat between players, it will have to be from Sony --> character like Blackjack. When you get players gambling/wagering/speculating with other players it is an innocuous way to "dump" plat under the guise of a bet.
