Contested Mob idea....

We are always complaining that some mobs are too easy etc, I came up with a thought for some future contested mobs..

I'm only using the Avatars as an example but the idea in principle would work.
We are getting the gods back in the next expansion and I presume the gods Avatars aswell, if the Avatars are killable instead of just giving them a zone or making them contested in one spot why not also have the chance of having a world wide message come up like when a mythical artefact is claimed...
"<Name of Avatar> Has Descended to Norrath, <Zone Name> Quails in his presence" Only one of these Avatars could be up at any time and only up once every couple of weeks or so.
The Avatar could zone into any Land currently in the game or available in the future so they have to be hunted down, the Avatar can also Move around, attack whoever it likes/help who it likes, zone to different zones etc.
How can it do this? because these contested mobs are controlled by human players, GM's Devs I don't care who but having a mob that can be very different from encounter to encounter would be brilliant IMO, they would also only be up for a set amount of time and then you may not see that Avatar on Norrath for another month or so, this would

They could serve more than just being contested epics also.
If it happened to be one of the "Good" Avatars that came down maybe they could give out beneficial buffs to people they came accross and spoke to, helped out groups that where in trouble near them. Obviously something like that in game would be beneficial to alot of people and the death of it may not be a thing that everyone wants (As it should be these are the avatars of the gods after all).

If it was one of the "Evil" Avatars that came down they could cause havoc by attacking anyone they choose to, curse players with long lasting debuffs, clear whole zones of mobs to spite players. Almost everyone would want this mob killed .

"Neutral" gods could do either of the above depending on how they felt.

Since they are controlled by RL people they could also remember which guild killed the Avatar and purposfully go and hunt them down the next time they are on that server one by one before they get chance to form their Raid. Or if they are in a Zone and they see a Raid forming on the other side they could go and destroy them before their raid is fully formed or just run away to another zone .

In PvP these Avatars could be Faction based, If good then only attackable by good players, if Evil only attackable by Evil and if Neautral it could be attacked by both. Maybe a twist could be that if the good side didn't want their Avatar killed they could group with it and help in his Defense and be rewarded for it, same with the Evil Avatars. Maybe you could Even Group with one and Pursaude them to join you in a crusade attacking the Enemy City .

The Rewards for grouping or helping the Avatars could be something Simple like a House item that gives you an extra Ability useable once a Day, eg "Smite of <Avatar Name>" a Nuke that you can use or.. "Shielding of <Avatar Name>" From a different Avatar, a 1 hour regenerating ward of 1000 damage or so (not like the ones in game already where you have to click it, you would gain an ability you could put on your hotbars). You get these because you have befreinded him and he is watching over you and will help you when you call for his Aid.
Neutral Avatars could even be groupable with either Allignment giving the only times that Good and Evil could safely chat and maybe even trade with one another, under the banner of peace that the Gods Avatar brings . Or instead of grouping with it and chatting you could just kill the thing.

Afterthought....
*Puts on Flame Retardent Suit*

part of the problem i would see is that if a RL person is controlling them. were screwed. because theyd just kill the heals first. taunts wouldnt work. itd be like fighting a permanant mem-wiping mob.

Taunts coudl work actually, just put in a pvp mechanic. Taunts work on PvP and I'm sure they woudl work ona GM controlled mob. Sony won't do that though. Honestly if they are going to do something like that they need to hire 1 person for each server to be an Event coordinator person, someone who could do live events, player controlled mobs, and things of that sort. I'm sure players would line up to be able to do that.

Aye I know they would never implement it even though it could be don and relativly easily and they would have hordes of people willing to do it for free. I just had the idea and thought that if done right it could provide encounters that break the norm a little bit :smileysad:.

I thought having mobs where.....
the scripts don't break
that change from week to week in subtle ways,
that can make mistakes
React to your raid force in intelligent ways and try and counter you
would be something worth seeing in the game and provide some of the originality that has been lacking for a while.

actually adding pvp mechanics sounds like a solution but seriously, having a person playing the mob would throw so much useless randomness or even unfairness into the game. Say guild one comes in trying to kill it. Every taunt gets resisted or all the healers die to ae. since there is no rule that says the mob can't move to the healers even though it is targeting the Main Tank. Then Guild two rolls up. even if taunts are resisted the mob seems to always target the main tank. and the ae only seems to go off 1/2 the time it should. Not saying that would happen, just saying it could. The Enviroment encounters need to be controlled by the environment. But all the other stuff would be cool.
