I was in a group in Sanctum of Scaleborn a while ago and noticed interesting thing: in crossroads next to jail at least one group member crashed always when we passed it. Each and every time with no exceptions. Persons crashing said that they either got memory error of some kind or just dropped to desktop without any warning. Is this a common problem?

What I found out, especially when the Gnomish Spring Boots still allowed stratospheric jumps, is that often times the whole zone isn't "loaded" and you have to walk through a kind of checkpoint location before the next general area loads automatically. You might say, well, isn't it just visibility clipping? No it isn't.... when I jumped in Shimmering Citadel, only the half of the zone I was in actually was live; the other half was completely blank and you'd fall through the zone if you tried to land in it. Turns out it "loaded" the other half of the zone only when you walked through the underpasses that connected the north/south towers to the palace.I say "loaded" but maybe the map is in chunks and the engine detaches chunks that aren't visible to you. Neat to muse about, even if this doesn't help your problem. So yeah, I can understand how walking through a certain spot could cause a crash.
Message Edited by electricninjasex on 09-14-2006 10:38 AM

The same thing has happened to me a few times. I get a popup crash error that says I run out of memory. I've also gotten it recently in West Freeport. Sorry but an AMD64 3400 on an ATI 256mb AGP card with a gig of ram shouldn't be doing that.

At worst cases my computer is using about 1.5gigs of mem while I play. 1 gig is not enough for even eq2 + OS alone. I suggest that you upgrade to 2 gigs. It made laggy cities so much more fun when my harddrive is not trying to commit a suicide everytime you go to qeynos. It probably helps with SoS too.I never crashed in SoS crossroads, but others were dropping like flies.Dunno about others, but I consider 2 gigs as minimum for enjoyable eq2 experience.
