View Full Version : Gnillaw the Demented with insta-kills in Lyceum

<DIV>I was healing on a Lyceum raid yesterday on Nektulos.  The MT for Gnillaw was a guardian, buffed up to about 12.5k HP (pickup raid) before bolster.  We also had all other healers (5 of them) assisting with direct heals outside of the MT group when we get down to Gnillaw.  He was buffed to about 6200 mitigation with decent resists. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Twice we had something happen where Gnillaw killed the MT with wards, reactives, and some HOTs up by just swatting him down within half a second.  From the logs, it seems to be about 4 or 5 attacks for around 4-5k each.  There is just no way to heal this and it seems to be entirely random.  The tank wasn't debuffed at all from what I could see, so it seems to just be some kind of ability or combination of auto attacks and combat arts that can hit just right and wipe the tank.  It seemed different than a typical debuff-high hit wipe in that nobody saw a debuff, but I admit it was too fast to really tell.  He was dead before we could even think about healing anything, through wards and reactives.  We weren't an uber raid or anything, but a good pickup that would have won that fight.  (He had just healed one of the times) </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also checked the log and didn't see any critical hits. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It doesn't seem right that a raid mob can instantly kill a geared/buffed/full health/warded MT when we're doing it right, unless it's a special ability of some kind.  I'm not sure if he would have survived even if he was fully geared and had more HP.  It was a LOT of damage in under a half a second, at least 15k if not more.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I can probably find the log entries for it if anybody wants to see them. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Did you cure the trauma?

<DIV>Of course we were curing.  (We had one healer on trauma spam duty in fact)  But this happened faster than anybody could cure, if there was a debuff.  There was definately not a debuff before the hits of any type.  I'll need to check the log to be sure, but when I read the log the first time it seemed to just be hits and not a debuff in the mix.  I don't think a cure spam would have gotten whatever it was if it was a trauma debuff.</DIV>

Yeah I was looking at the logs (not the damage portions), but you've made me interested enough to read the actual log to be sure.  I'll post it if I can manage to find it (500MB log, heh heh)

Sometimes timing is an issue with these mobs.  Sometimes Vyemm AE's your raid force when hes being pulled and sometimes he dosnt...<div></div>

I don't know of any issue like that since we killed him yesterday without any problems. You were prolly just unlucky.

<P>I checked the log, we got hit for about 13k in about 1-2 seconds right after he ate the whole ward the previous second or so plus some bonus damage.  So I guess it was just unlucky to get hit for large amounts sequentially like that with no misses or low damage rolls. <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  I didn't see any debuffs activate in the log. </P> <P> </P>

You might tell your guardian not to use stone sphere, or make sure his entire group is out of AE range if he does.  Best bet is to just not use it, should solve your 13k in 1 sec damage spike problems, because otherwise Gnillaw is not capable of that kind of damage.

Tower of Stone if its up sure helps but if that many hits that fast gonna be hard to get that off even unless that was the damage on the pull.  Otherwise just dumb luck really and if this happened after all the adds were dead just need to have a second tank buffed up best you can to take over till the MT can get back up to speed.

Yeah it wasn't on the pull.  This was after his heal.  You're right in that we didn't have a second tank ready to go and it bit us.
