Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to post a personal thought about player housing, and perhaps the devs to take notice.

I like the feature of housing, however if they offer bigger homes, two room, three room, etc. they SHOULD allow true sharing of these homes. If I share a home with another person I should have my own storage AND I should have more slots when using the broker to sell.

My problem is I don't own a home so I only have one broker slot. If I had a home I would have two, or more if I had a better home. Even if I shared a better home with someone I won't have any more then one slot with the broker unless I am the primary owner. But then the other person would only have one slot.

I know you can buy stands for your home to sell, but that does not help the middle and lower class people because those stands are pricey and rare.

I'd like to move in with someone but it's not practical to own a bigger home. :smileysad:

I don't mean to sound cold, and I could be confusing what you are asking...perhaps what you're saying is that if you and two other people are the trustees of a 6 slot house, you could split the cost and each have 2 in the same house (which would frankly be stupid from a money standpoint as you can already have 2 slots with an innroom)? and each pay with status and coin (which you can actually do if you're a trustee)? It would work for roleplaying though...

But I am reading what you are asking for to mean that you want 2 or 3 people to share the cost of a 6 slot house and each get 6 broker boxes... which shouldn't ever happen...imo.

If you are trying to do this from a roleplaying standpoint, you can pay 5sp a week for an innroom and then share a larger, nicer house with someone else. You can access your own stuff from the bigger house, but you'll get the 2 broker boxes you would from your own room... but it works from a RP standpoint.

Think of it like a couple who have a house together but the guy only gets one closet and the woman gets about 4 of them... ;P

umm its like 5s a week to own a one room appatment... even if you just want an extra broker slot its free... just claim the 1-room and never pay rent... you jsut can't consignment sell that way, but your items still appear on the broker...

I would love my alts (who are all trustees) to be able to access my mains broker slots - I can';t have more than one character selling, so why can't my alts be able to put stuff in my broker boxes so that my main can sell them (and for that matter why can't my alts access my house vault either......

That didn't seem to be what the OP was asking for though... they obviously have the ability to determine based on account as opposed to by character only since they do that for guild xp already...

I think the major problem with shared homes should be obvious to people. What if the relationship soars?

There needs to be mechanisms in place to prevent your items from being stolen/looted/sold. There also needs to be an eviction system so that if someone does not pay rent (own up G and status) to maintain the house, you can boot them. How will rent be paid? Do you all pay at the same time? How does that work? Think about all the problems/griefing that would occur if your roommate didn't own up their share of rent. Rent is due. The landlord is knocking at your door. Do you have to pony up the gold/status to keep your house? on and on and on....

I'd love a shared home. There are some pretty cool people that I've met in the years I've played this game. But like all things, people change. The people that I met long ago either moved onto WoW or vanished altogether. I don't want to be stuck with a 5 room house I can't pay for!

Sorry for the late responce...

You all have good points, but guess I was trying to think outside the box. Plus I used myself as an example, which did not really come across right. I personally don't have a huge issue with this. I do have one cheep two bedroom home that is funded by crafting mainly, but I could not afford more and my guild is not high enough to even open up the other homes because we are all very casual players.

I want to say that sharing homes could provide a benifit and to what some other have pointed out in this thread shareing homes would be at a cost. Not so much as cost in coin but cost in dealing with your roommate. Which I think is ok if done right. One benifit would be getting more broker slots because you can share the cost of a better home. This might enable you to eventually afford the high rent house yourself. Another is roll playing, and they would have to fix the abillity to have your own vaults.

My other point is to those who don't make tons of coin or don't play a lot may never manage to own a larger home. Not everyone is in a guild to get cheaper housing or crafts like mad. Infact if you think about it... if you are a casual player your even worse off. Harder to get in a guild cause your casual player AND can't afford a bigger home because you don't make that much money.

I'm pretty sure you could develop code and a fair system to share homes. You could create permissions for items your character places in the home and you can control who gets to move them, but nobody but your character can take them. Kinda already in place. Just missing the part where someone else could place items but not take yours.

Sharing a home is at a cost... your SHARING it. So why can't the system split the coin for the room or the system could be that if two people share the room the cost is 60% of the whole price for each. If one does not pay the the system blocks the non-paying charater name from getting in. The other who does pays can get in as well as other visitors.

If one person moves out or perhaps does not pay anything for something like 4 realtime months the room could lockout both, but that would be the risk you take. The paying player could get their items from the door if they can't pay FULL rent. If they CAN pay the full rent then after a few weeks or a month the NON-Paying players items would go in a virtual vault and the player now paying FULL price can use the entire room if they choose. Heck maybe the system even posts out a "Looking for roommate" ad after 2 realtime months of a roommate not paying the rent.

The risks of sharing a home I think equal some benifits you get. Plus I think it could add to the adventure and community. There are ways to be creative and make a system to work. I'm asking that SOE looks in to it.

Message Edited by Tuetatesu on 09-22-2006 05:57 PM
