View Full Version : Expedition Guards in Sol Eye attacking pets on sight... Is this intended?

If i just walk around with any of my necro summoned pets they attack it, kill it quickly then come after me! If i use swarm pets they do it as well. I was just wondering if this is intended.. because its really annoying since the expedition guards are everywhere, lol

This bug is as old as the zone. Any pets (even fluff pets) will cause this. And it's not juts expedition guards, it's just about every mob in the zone.

Yeah I have noticed this at lvl70 they are well grey yet still aggro my pet. Its a zone that has to be traveled a bit sometimes for one reason or another.

A fix would be good!

My guess, NPC's have a kill on sight list for other NPC's. It's what you see in SS, for example, when a croc hunter starts killing a croc mob. I'll bet they scripted it such that they forgot to specify which NPC's they were supposed to attack... so they attack them all! :smileysurprised:

This bug has been around since they put in the portal inside Sol Eye.

Interesting. I've never had the Expedition Guards attack my pets, only the ghostly gnomes. I haven't been there in a while though. Maybe they changed it. That would be encouraging; it would indicate they are at least doing something there.

The bug with the ghostly gnomes attacking all pets - even if gray - was introduced in February of this year with LU19. After bugging it for 3 months and posting about it a few times I gave up.

Some people say that if you remove/disable the "Protect Yourself" and "Protect Me" option that the pet will be fine. I haven't tried it yet. Dunno if it actualy works or not...

You're screwed Snarkn! Not much you can do, they'll atack no matter what, no matter what pet you have or anything. If you have a fun-spell pet, they will attack it. It's either flavor(well it's probably labelled as flavor now), or a bug(probably is that, but you know how things go).

Bah! I hope even if its intended that they reconsider this... I can't solo anything in the zone (which is unfortunate since its probably my favorite) so I'm left to joining groups and hitting 2 attacks over and over... And of course the inevitable accidental swarm pet release which wipes the group :[

Tell me about it! :smileymad: My Berserker never did enough in the place - just the HQs & Naggy stuff. I wanted very much to go back more. My Necro was coming into the appropriate level range when they revamped it. I was stoked. Couldn't wait to get there . . . and then it was borked. That's why I /bugged it so much.

One of the best looking and largest zones in the game . . . something a lot of time obviously went into . . . huge, glaring mistake - yet one would think an easy fix - and they won't even look at it! Makes me very grumpy to think about it.

When mobs are grey, they shouldn't be agro no matter what. So having lvl 70's pets getting agro, while amusing the first couple of times, just gets annoying after that. And it leaves pet classes with little to do when they are level-appropriate as they risk getting the whole group wiped because a non-agro will add on the pet. So they are stuck with a few dots and nukes, and basically twiddling their thumbs with no pet or dumbfires to use.

Yeah, i find it hard to believe that they were coded to attack player controlled pets. I think it is a SIDE-EFFECT. If you notice, those ghosts are insane. They attack any NPC. I once saw a group of the ghosts attacking its own members. This does affect others besides just us summoners. For example, anyone that has a companion pet out like a hawk, zygomid sporeling, nyth doll, etc... these companions and pets also generate aggro from the grey gnome ghosts.

Sorry Moor, this doesn't add a 'sense of peril' for players entering the zone.

This doesn't effect guardians, wardens, furies, templars, coercers, illusionists, rangers, assassins, monks, bruisers, berzerkers to the extent that it really screws with necromancers and conjurerers. I took my 53(!) necro into the zone two days ago to get Prismatic runes... almost got killed five feet from ZI because it of this, thank goodness for FD. It wasn't until after we got into golem territory that every gnome in the zone quit comming after me, and no, this is not a joke - even the ghost spirits came after my pet like madmen even if I was well away from them. Whenever it pathed near a gnome, the spirits would agro it... for all intents, had I come down with a group whom didn't have an average level of 52, I wouldn't have been able to use my pet at all, effectively more than halving my DPS.

Sorry if you guys felt this was simply to add a sense of peril to the zone, but it's really just a big flag that says necros & conjurers: Abandon all Hope Ye Who Enter Here.

yea, it's not on purpose...just too much work to code the npc's properly to only attack other npc's.

They attack any and all pets, regardless of class. As a Wizard, I have tested this with all the 'fun' spells I have, and they provoke all the ghosts. If this is intended, you best inform CS. When I mentioned it to them, and demonstrated it for a CSR about...... 6 months ago, I was told it was a bug.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but as it stands at the moment it seems impossible to complete the access quest for Bastion of Flames (yes I know you don't *have* to complete this access quest now since it was opened up after LU24).The last part requires the killing of Efreeti Soulstealers - and they spawn amongst the ghostly gnome miners who attack them instantly. I spent ages trying to beat them to the punch and managed to get 1 of them.Needs fixing.

Think this is the right thread to write more about Sol Eye, hehe.Aside from gnomes attacking my conjurers pets on sight, almost every single mob sees invis in this zone! Is this meant to be that way? Imo a few wandering invis seers were enough for people who were not careful but every mob after the portal? Sheesh!I used to love that zone. Now I hate it.edit:Oh, and once my little conjurer is high enough, I'm gonna go in there and kill every gnome in that zone. That includes the questgivers and the other "good" gnomes.
Message Edited by K3mik4l on 08-30-2006 10:04 AM

Same issue, I zoned into Sol Eye (48 conj "GNOME") and I was hopping to help my fellow gnomes and do some quests...

They killed my pet onsite and killed me, thats not lore, thats not game mechanics explained to us. I can understand if you wanted to make some changes to "NPC" based encounters in the zone to attack pets to avoid pet pulling but the expidtion guards and quest givers need to be made non-attackable!

Its a bug, if you cannot fix the bug simply state.... "we are unable to fix this bug" dont lie to us saying you ment for it to be this way! that infurrates players like me and make me wonder why I even pay to play a game I cannot enjoy!

Lets put it this way... Sol Eye entrance is what level 46+, why is the quest giver 50+ ^^^ and has more HP then 15 titans and hits like nag... ITS NOT SUPPOSE TO KILL PEOPLE, ITS NOT EVEN KOS EXCEPT TO PETS.

god you people at SoE are lame generalizing the whole zone when its the Quest NPC faction you put in that is causing the problem if you would just create the class then zone in with a pet you would see what in the world your player base is talking about and not throw it in the garbage.

thanks,

Message Edited by Vorlak on 08-30-2006 11:26 AM
