Something in last night's patch is causing an error and rebooting the wife's computer after hitting the play button. EQ starts up, then immediatly shuts down and comp reboots.

EQ has no problems on my comp, so it appears to be happening with some computers.

She can log into the live servers fine and had no problems before the update last night, this is specific to the latest patch.

possibly a graphics/driver problem? can only think of maybe a memory hard lock, or driver issue causing a reboot like that..I run an ati radeon 9800 pro 256, and haven't had the problem at all.. on any characters..

So far I have done a complete file scan, uninstalled the old drivers, updated to the new ones, defragged, turned off firewall, and kicked the computer. Just deleted the entire Test folder I had set up (minus UIsettings) and am currently repatching test.

Same problem here with 2 systems. Both run a Radeon 9200 AGP - 256 mem. So no play on Test , once again. Any dev up for even looking at that or do we have to wait till it hit's live and a few thousand people scream Bloody Mary over it ?

Purr~

Test Server = priceless - because you can't get in to play it.

A bit more info :

going around the launcher and settings file and calling everquest2.exe directly (which usually just let's you skip over launcher and patcher) still causes the same reboot. Seems the problem lays within that file (which GOT patched last night) or one of the two dll files (binkw32.dll and mss32.dll) that got patched with it. Or maybe you guys have pointers set to wrong drives (partitions) again.

Purr~

PS: Live servers run fine on the systems that reboot when trying to get on Test. And Test works fine from our back up system with much older hardware. Horrible graphix, but works.

Message Edited by Purrfect on 03-10-200602:22 PM

Also, the error is causing another error after rebooting. Something about the drivers caught in an infinite loop waiting for the video card to become idle.

I know it is EQ causing that because if I shutdown completely after the reboot, I dont get an error on startup.

And what I love most is having a GM-QA in game on Test now who just doesn't even bother to say yes or no when asked if it's looked into.

Hi Mirk,

deleted all ini file as usually when there is a problem.

Sound hardware: integretated (in motherboard) sound for all machines, never had a problem with them - didn't change anything in any settings since before patch when everything worked fine. Same motherboard with same sound chip works fine in out backup system from which I can get into Test. But settings are across the board much lower. Sound I usually run with lowest and mostly off for 80 % of the possible sounds/effects/voices.

Purr~

PS: Now experiencing crashes (from within the game to the desktop) with the back-up system. Started crashing after zoning into Sanctum of the Scaleborn. Sound settings : all off completely. 5 of the 6 people in our group went ld at different times - repeatetly

Oddly enough, both were in the same location, but at seperate times - at the Zek docks while fighting kelp horrors. I also had a few CTD's at the pond up by the mine in Zek.

It was always while in combat - client seemed to just freeze, and sound went into a stuttering, broken record thing, then Windows unrecoverable error message. I can't. Just thought I'd mention it here, since after my guildie reported the same problems I thought it less likely to be my system or settings as the culprit.

We're looking into it, folks, but sometimes things aren't so readily apparent and easy to fix.If you guys would treat this like the Tech Support forum and post the first part of your DXDiag (that's all I care about), stopping past the sound provider, I'd appreciate it, though.

Message Edited by Aerendar on 03-13-200602:49 PM

Last ditch effort

go to http://www.ciara-tech.com

support. then drivers. then get the driver for what the opsys identifies the sound card as. extract it and then go to control panel and update driver and point it at the extracted driver.

Drivers that ciara points to could not be installed (system did not see them as compatible). From all I found so far, only the soundmax drivers show as compatible and work with the integretated chip in our mbs.

But after completely deinstalling all soundmax related stuff I at least could log into the game - without sound.

So I went back to the original CD that came with the motherboard and did a websearch for updates with it.

Came up with a soundmax update : wdm3516b_Cadenza.exe

had to run the setup manually but can now log into the game with sound. Don't know if that will fix all problems but atm we can play again. Finally !!!

Sun, please let us know if that update works for your wife. We cross our fingers for you.

Purr~

PS: Thanks to all who tried to help, esp. Hordolin.

Uninstalled the audiomax drivers. Got River in, will try to locate new drivers in the morning. EQ is still causing an error on boot up and there is still that error that I posted first (the one that looks like a link) Looks like the update has a couple problems that need to be addressed.

After talking to Hordo tonight, I believe, as does he, that the corrupted error report on startup is caused by EQ.
