View Full Version : Test Server Focus: Quest Indicators

Greetings! Igram here...

Having found that certain uncooperative NPCs are not displaying their "Quest Indicators" (the page and quill for those not in the know which recently appeared over quest related NPC's heads) as intended, I wanted to ask the community to keep an eye on this recent addition to the UI.

Please report your findings using /bug, /feedback or this forum should quest related NPCs do either of the following:

1. Have a Quest Indicator (either to update or give a quest) when they currently have no quest to give/update.

2. Offer a quest when they don't have a Quest Indicator over their head.

In general, anytime you interact with an NPC during a quest, please throw a quick look above their head to see if they are flagged correctly. Whether you are interested in dedicating the majority of your testing energies to this, or simply want to keep this issue in mind while running through your quests as normal, we sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Just to save you some time, here is the original update note:

*** Questing ***

- An NPC that will offer, update, or complete a quest now has an indicator above its head.
* A quill indicates that the NPC will offer you a quest.
* A book with a quill indicates that the NPC will update one of your quests.
* A book indicates that the NPC will complete one of your quests.
* NPCs that offer a quest 10 or more levels above or below your adventure level will not display these indicators.
* You can turn off these indicators in the Options menu (User Interface -> Name and Chat Bubble -> NPC Overhead Quest Icons).

Well, in the Frostfell snowglobe quest. The hideout zone. You have several people to talk to. You can talk to them in any order, but only the one next in the description shows an idicator.Speaking of Frostfell, the pots music part--well it stops randomly. Twice I had just begun the 5th round, it began to show me the sequence then quit. Twice it quit right at the start of the rounds in round 1 or 2. I had to camp and come back, several times per attempt. Sometimes one camp wouldnt reset it. This also happened to Lyli on her character.

Here's a strange thing.Kella, 53 Assassin, hasn't seen any at all, anywhere. Now it's possible that she hasn't walked by anyone who could give her a quest, but somewhat unlikely. So I thought maybe it was a problem with my custom UI or something.Nimari, 20 Fury, definitely has them. Popping off into the Steppes before learning Halasian, she saw none; after going back to Freeport and picking up the language scrolls, practically everyone in the TS has little quills for her, so that's good.Last night to look at something in the IoR, I created a 3 Mage. All four archetype guys had quills, even though presumably only the one in the mage tower would give her quests. (Then again, considering that what I went to the IoR to see was Lord Nagafen sitting there in the mittle of a goblin camp, I think the quest indicators were the least of the island's problems.)What seems -- as best I can tell -- to be the case is that the quills appear for NPCs who are going to offer you a quest right away. If you'll have to talk to them and ask them for a quest, no indicator. At least, that's the only pattern I can discern with my toons.

I am having the same issues that Kella is having. Labb 55 guardian has never seen any except in the gigglegibber instance. But my alts all before 35 see them on almost every quest giver save the few bugged by numerous people.

Labb Accident

<Children of War>

(The one with the drums was the really buggy one here.) Nothing anywhere else for Kella, though.

(As a side note, the "quote" function here on the forums hasn't worked properly for me in over a week. It's getting really annoying.)
