<DIV>Here is an example:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When I first started playing eq2 I was primarily interested in adventuring, exploring cool dungeons and most of all leveling.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Later on I discovered harvesting how it could make me gold and make it easier to get adepts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I didn't come into the game thinking I would be much of a harvester but I actually have more fun now when I stop and harvest.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Soe taught me to enjoy harvesting.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What other examples of this have you experienced? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Are there more lessons out there that we just have not discovered yet?</DIV>

When I first came to EQ2, it was fresh from a long standing on the EQ1 test server and had just about enough of the tedious amount of nothing for advancing other than raiding and looting. I came to EQ2 with a hope for a freh outlook and a new way of expanding what I had come to love on EQ1, dungeons, questing, exploring and discoveries of new stuff and content. And i NEVER thought I would be playing any sort of priest type character. I was pure warrior on EQ1 and was going that route here when I found the Inquisitor more to my liking. <DIV>Harvesting and crafting is not my bag, I passed on it originally and have done so again. The only thing I see really lacking in this as opposed to the EQ1 is diversity among classes, such as pure priest being the bes healers and druids etc being some of the best buffers and warriors standing their place at the front of the line and taking the hits while the casters and assassins dps'ers and such took them down.</DIV> <DIV>Im loving the new graphics and art work and the whole new concept of adventuring and the likes. Epic mobs and raid targets etc...</DIV> <DIV>More to come as I get time to think on it.</DIV>

EQ2 is the thing that taught me that an MMORPG could actually be worth my time and money.  That's something, anyway.  *grin*I've learned to like crafting.  I spent 6 months leveling a tailor 28 before I eventually ground to a halt, but experiences with my provisioner have been rewarding enough (even when tedious) that I've learned to like putting necessary items into the game world.I've learned to like working with other people.  I didn't group at all, except to duo with someone from RL, until I was level 28, and suddenly grouping and guilded.  Raiding and the guild have taught me the benefit of working with others in a game world.I've learned to love exploring.  Playing a stealth-based character made finishing my new-zone access quests (I still had to do the Zek, EL, Feer, EF quests; waited until 42 for LS access) the most fun thing in the world, because I had a whole new zone to poke around, and all-new creatures and landscape to see.<div></div>

<P>Well Seph, I have similar experience with you in that I learned to enjoy harvesting at around lvl 25+ and have since loved it.  SoE has also tought me to enjoy interior decoration.  I know SWG offers it as well, but for some reason it is different in EQII.  I made my golds doing wholesaler tasks (harvesting), competing with Toralu (and lost), and counting my silvers accumulate till I could afford to buy that cool shelf from North Qeynos.  It was all so addicting!  </P> <P>One thing that surprised me is that SoE did not teach me to love quests, despite the large number of quests out there. </P>

<P>I came to EQ2 after getting burned out in EQ1 because the content for my character was based on raiding and the uber loot.  When i came to EQ2 i actually started to Enjoy doing the quests and going to see new places.  I feel that SOE put the Quest back into Everquest.  I also learned to like certian tradeskills and yes harvesting to an extent. I also learned that if i can't find a group i can still do things alone and enjoy the time i have to play the game.</P> <P> </P> <P>I actually enjoy getting online and playing a game to pass my time again.  When i moved to the test server i also found a community that is small enough that everyone helps eachother no matter the guild they are in.  (SOE may not have taught me this however, This statement goes to show the outstanding caliber of the people on test server.  we play on test to see new content help improve a game we all love and are not driven by the greed that is so often seen on live servers)</P>

<DIV>I have 2 accounts = 12 charactes on live 8 atm on test 9 tradeskillers on live 3 on test. No I dont 2 box. 1 computer 2 accounts. I bought eq2 and my son gave it to me for xmas when it came out and well just couldnt let it go to waste ya know, heh.</DIV> <DIV>Exploring not necessarily fighting getting discovery exp for being someplace even if its not much is such a silly kick. Think thats why I enjoy the bootstrutters stuff so much gives you a reason to just run around and snoop.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Collection Quests:   Bloody Frustrating, Mind boggling, Makes You Want to Scream and pull your hair out cause you can't find that last bone or shard or feather or or or.... Yessss I finished it!!!!   ok next collection :smileyhappy::smileywink::smileyvery-happy: Never would I have thought that collecting things in a game (unlike in real life you can show off your collection of every known bottle cap since Rome burned) would be fun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I want to be a Hero, with my tradeskills no I'm not a hero but I can make myself stuff and others to help them be a hero. In a group I can pull off some outrageous stunt and save the party, same with a raid (only alot rarer), and solo yes solo then I am truely a Hero. Whether it be pally , sk ,beserker, dirge , bard, or ranger duking it out with a mob aka pick your fantasy warrior book :smileywink: or conjuror / necro with pets in charge slaying the righteous or unrighteous , or my inquistor out killing everyone because they didnt get permission from the Dismal Rage to do what they are doing. My Mystic speaking with her ancestors and all the fuzzy animal spirits (when working with the spirits you need to make a few spirits to have around to help later on :smileyvery-happy:  ) going forth on quest after quest righting wrongs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is what the game is truely about and what the majority of people (imo) want, they want to be Hero's in some way or another, not just another cog (already am that in real life).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When I came into the game I was looking forward to tradeskilling. In some ways I'm disapointed in others it went above my expectations. Tradeskilling actually means something to the player base in eq2 not just something to do. Though my provisioner has learned to hate cooking trying to keep all my characters stocked up because of the time involved.</DIV> <DIV>My armorer leveling up is a pain, the end result is great though. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now in referance to the test server in itself, well I'm one of those wierd people that like break things, then anounce it to the world (mean while there is a coder cussing at me wondering what fool would even try to do what i managed to do in the first place) Havent had too many of those moments in eq2 found some bugs yes but havent managed to really find anything wierd that I can crow about in the test channel and make you Hate me Seph :smileytongue:</DIV>

<P>Sort of a backhanded reply but....</P> <P>SOE taught me to enjoy the lower level game.</P> <P>Unlike pretty much anything else I have played, I find the lower level game in EQ2 much more rewarding and fun than the higher levels. I think the pinnacle of fun in EQ2 is on IoR... and it goes continually downhill from there.</P>

when i first started i was most intrested in exploring/adventuring/questing and trade skills with trade skills and quest sligtly edging out the others. (not woried so much about leveling that comes as it comes its good to have but the journy there is the fun), <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>what eq2 taught me is that past the IoR quests rewards generaly decresse vs time spent on them and after lvl 20 most are not worth the rewards.(epics are but they take a lot of time, and where is the flowing black robe or the smr?) how ever some of that has changed with dof ( imbalmer line of quests were well done i liked them a lot and would like to see more of them in that calaber) basicly the reward needs to be better on most of them for the time invested. rewards can be fun story line back ground history, equipment, and or money (varies by class doing the quest posibly such as the fallen gate quest) quests that lead you from one area to another to help you want to explre are good ideas.  having the quest give you a better idea of what to do (some of them are so cryptic that there not fun to do on your own and using a cheat site is almost requiered and takes out a lot of the fun but frustration isn't fun either)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>that soe doesent like faydwere ( its still missing hehe )</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>camping for mobs to compleat quests is really realy realy realy not fun. while its ok to not have the "named mob" pop up every time it should not take 4 or 5 days or even hours to get them to spawn (if your woried about them being farmed make there rare loot rare) but for crying out loud dont make people wait for ever to have them pop and make the spawn time for those mobs fast (personaly i think having the "named mob" pop within 3 kills or have it scripted is much more enjoyable) spending hours/days of time trying to get them to spawn is borring and most times i just wont do it any more as thats borring</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i like crafting still but eq has taught me that common stuff generaly isnt worth the time and the rare is only moderatly on most items. the items dont seam to match the classes very well and the progresion from crude shaped normal and pristine on the stats is haphazard and not logical ( still see some items that the normal item is better then the pristine stat wise), that crafting take a lot of time to make items and takes some one who is realy dedicated to crafting. ( some of the changes i like with dof is robes and pants for cloth have int on them finaly but this comes at a trade off for int not being on the other items like the bracers gloves and shawl) </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>harvestin is fun one of the things i have liked in eq and other games that has done this. but one thing it has taught me is that the devlopers never paid attention to how resources are truly refined and they do not logicly assign values to them. examples steel is never found it is a alloy. steel is made from iron and carbon (somtimes with other ores). therefor you would take the iron ore and coal and make steel. gold has been historicly harder to come by then silver and is considered more rare then gold. how ever in eq2 gold is as common as dirt and silver is the rare. but thats not represented by the coins so this is not consistant.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>eq has taught me to value having starting areas and citys for differeant races ( one of the things i miss most from eq and simuler games is the different citys you could go to. Each with there own back ground  culture and history) </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>That antoina bayels father is a hypocrte ( see the betrayal quests hehe calls you a murder and then has you go kill to prove your not?)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>varitie :i realy wish for more diversity of out fits these can be racial dependent or custamizable when making items. as it is you find that many of the robes and armors look the same throughout many of the tiers. I havent been to impressed with the look of most of the robes but there realy has not been alternitives to this look as the tunics that you can craft for cloth dont have usefull stats for a int caster so your relegated to wearing robes. I rember in eq1 going out of my way to get out of the robe andinto the leather or chain look for my caster. some of the items you could find and wear as a caster were different from the sterotype caster my high elf was one of the few non robe wielding wizards even though i took a small hit on max int the items i had were still desirable  and i realy loved thats silk skirt that she had actialy wish that there had been a simular blouse to go with it. I loved that you could dye your items to give you some added diversity on items that would other wise look the same.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>the number one thing though that eq2 has taught me is that no mater what the good or bad things that a system brings its the quality of people that i play with the bring me the most fun. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so to all of those that make this a fun world to play in kudos to you and hope to see you online soon</DIV>

<P>i looked back on my post an while still valid i dont think this adresses what you were realy looking for.</P> <P>I think your asking what did soe do well with eq2?</P> <P>you did realy well with the low end game i think the IoR is prolly one of the funnest zones in the game </P> <P>the quest were well laid out were not extreamly hard to find out what to do and were a lot of fun. what Ior taught me though did not hold for the rest of the Game Ior teachs you that quests are a good place to get starting gear and that there not going to have cryptic information on what to do. it teachs you that the named mobs are not something you will have to camp for long periods of time (somthing you learn later is a misconception) and that quest mobs are always spawned in instances. I would have loved to see this continue.</P> <P>what I learned once I got to the city is that I had to follow a script that kinda generates my characters. (ie citizen task and then the class quests  while I understand it was supposed to teach me about my classs I would have rather skipped it as I dont think the quest realy taught you about the classes. that and i knew what i wanted to make anyway. i also learned that there were a lot of quests that i could do here that were worth the time to do for exp even if i couldnt use the items</P> <P>I learned that armer quest can be fun and hard to compleate but are good for the mid lvl and worth the time to do. wish we had some higer lvl ones as well. however I learned that the details and hints on quests drop off sharply and that this hinders some of the fun. you should always have at least some sort of hint of where to look this is realy important when the quest spans more then one zone. i learned that a lot of quests are kills so many solo mobs wich is ok except when you kill some of thes solo mobs it spawns epic or heroic mobs (thats frustrating) that keeps you from compleating quests as you cant kill them solo or even in a group if its a epic x2 that gets spawned </P> <P>i then learned that for mid lvls we are getting chaneled down into 2 zones and 2 dungeons (one per zone)</P> <P>i think what soe should have learned from eq1 and from eq2 is that your should have lots of low end content when you introduce the game.  then you build upon that foundation expansions. your choices of where to go should expand (not contract) as you level. example. you start on the IoR from there you go to qyenos or freeport each wich have a starting area (5 about for lvls 5-15) for each of the race arch types  and then 2 or 3 low level (10-20) areas and from then on its mostly 2 areas excluding instances or dungons that are in those zones. if you notice back in eq1 and other games it branched out the other way  this made eq2 feel small which i think disalusions a lot of eq 1 players</P> <DIV>how ever this is changing with expansions and the adventure packs ( allthough i havent bought any of the expansion packs as i felt this was content that relly should have been in the game to start with and so have had a hard time conviincing myself to buy)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i do realy like that expansion of areas i can explore with dof as exploring is one of the things i like to do.</DIV> <DIV>i learned that i realy like ice comet. i do wish though that i had a larger variety of damage spells at the levels as i seem to find that i have to drop many levels back to find a spell that uses a different resist if the mob is resistant to my current top spells ( i seem to find that i get a lot all fire or ice spells in a tier not a mix of them or at least thats the perception i have)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>all in all i think there are some things that could be improved but that if you stick it past the 20-30 lvl then things start turning around for the better. all in all i have learn that lvl 20- 40s is the least fun fun and that the lowend and high end (cause of the socializing ) is the most fun for me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have learned that every one loves bags/boxs but they take a long time to make hehe</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
