Not sure if this was intended but anytime a pet class caster sicks his pet on a mob the encoutner automatically becomes No loot no reward. Us casters have to physically attack the mob before we can get any xp for the encounter.

Problems this presents. Even with a defensive buff that causes additional hate our pet may not take aggro from us. When Fighting a Multiple solo encounter we have to get the pet to gain the aggro of multiple mobs. Unfortunately us casters just can't take the damage a melee class can nor can we reliably get off any spells even with maxed focus. As it stands now i can barely take a three group of (blue con) otherwise solo mobs.

Yeah noticed this as well just now. I doubt this is intentional, as the pet is intrinsic to our class and our most important class ability.

We'll get it fixed up.

In the update for combat changes or one after the combat changes. I think the same change dropped our pet healing capabilities and made letting the pet get the agro much more difficult in some cases.

When playing my conjuror, I usually step into the group I am attacking and blitz every spell as fast as I can to survive.

Dye

The problem, as stated above, is ONLY when you initiate combat with your pet.

That is with attacking <initiating> with a summoned pet.

Look at live update notes for 21 sept.

Update notes: September 21, 2005 - Posted by Blackguard

- Pet classes must do at least one point of damage to an encounter in order to receive experience and loot.

The damage can be spell or physical.

Dye

That's not a bug or the problem Dye.

The bug is you can't intiate combat w/ your pet right now no matter how much damage the caster does themself.

Up to this point in my previous reply, I had been fighting blue mobs and higher, up to some orange singles, blue groups. I was getting exp as usual for these mobs. I went in and tried some green mobs ..... Euricka!!!! About 95 percent of the time I was not getting the exp like mentioned. But some I continued to get exp, which in most cases was the upper end of the green band heroic. Still can't pin-point exactly what or why the cause. Also noted the ones where I was not getting exp, I could not activate a herioc event against. I am not sure where this is leading at this point.

Dye

Do this. Stand just outside the aggro range of any mob (Con doesn't matter). Target said Mob and send in your pet for the very first attack. Don't cast any spells on the mob or mobs until after the mob or mobs have aggroed your pet.

You will now notice that the encounter is instantly No loot/No reward (signified by the chest with a circle around it with a line through it). You can cast all you want on the mobs to do damage and you won't get any XP, body loot or chance at a chest drop.

Typically when i solo this is how i solo.

I send in my pet first make sure the mobs aggro on my pet. I then assist my pet in taking down the mobs with my spells and melee from behind. I meet the requirement for doing at least one point of damage to the encounter to gain the experiance and any chances at body loot/chest drops.

Since this last change pet classes cannot initiate combat in this way or it instantly breaks the encounter and put that little chest with the circle and line through it over the mobs heads. This in turn negates any ability to do heroic oppurtunities.

Message Edited by Jshail on 11-28-2005 05:59 AM

when live update 16 went to the live servers

- Owners of summoned pets no longer need to do at least 1 point of non-pet damage to get credit for the kill.

i assume its this way on test as well.
