View Full Version : Level 50 Defiler is very boring to play

<DIV>When it comes down to it, at 50, when I go out to solo, about the only thing I do is my Heroic Opportunities. I keep mushing the same 3 buttons going against the toughest mob I can kill at the moment: HO starter, Suppuration, Ruinous Imprecation...rinse and repeat. The only other thing I cast is an occational Ward on myself.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Here is why:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Maelstrom of Dismay - due to its long mezz effect on me, is not worth using. </DIV> <DIV>All of my debuffs - due to the fact that it increases my damage by a % and my total damage of anything is so slow, the net result usually is in the low 2 digits. By using my Adept III Abhorance, I increase the potency of Suppuration by 2-3 points of damage per tick. It is not worth the power or the time to cast it. Similar result can be observed in all debuffs. Let's say I dump all the debuffs on the mob and gain a 200 points more damage in total. For a mob that has over 5,000 hit points or more ike over 10,000 hit points, that is to be laughed at.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sure, in group and in raid, my debuffs help. But for soloing, they are a waste of my time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Crystalized Soul - don't start me on that. Completely useless.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Primordial Terror - So it fears the mob for a few seconds. The end result is that I lose my melee damage. If I cannot take the hit of a mob, I cannot kill it anyway. If I can kill it, I don't have to fear it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All in all, none of my spells help me in any way or shape of form except for my HO, when it comes to solo.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I most definitly did not look forward to such a day when I started a defiler. I imagined that we do much more damage, with a much wider variety of choices of tactics. Heck, my Shaman in EQII get to do more. I had a pet. I could root dot. What do I get here? Nothing but 3 buttons. And my class has such a scary name. It really is a big disappointment.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh by the way, since the wizard spell changes in the lastest patch (9/11), when I duo with Kwoung, I cannot contribute to the fight any more because all of my dots that do 50-90 points of damage per tick have the same chance to breaking the root as a 4000 k nuke. Why do I risk it? The end result, when I duo with Kwoung, is that all I have to do is to cast an occasional ward and heal him up so he can eat himselve more for mana.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am very very disappointed at this class. I converse with two other level 50 defilers and they feel the same exact way. Both of them have started to play alts and they intend to stay with their alts. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by Zindicatt on <span class=date_text>09-11-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:26 AM</span>

<P>Yup, as of Sundays patch, Zindi is no longer allowed to contribute damage when we fight challenging mobs, as her breaking root with dots is to much of a risk for the minimal damage return. If root breaks to soon, she ends up healing like mad and possibly us dying, if she doesn't cause root to break, the encounters are trivial (although they are boring as heck).</P> <P>Once again guys, your changes have had the net effect of sucking even more fun out of the game. </P>

I detest the defiler. It is a failed class. Nothing whatsoever interesting to do. Like Zindi, I am gravely disappointed. If she wasn't a provisioner I would delete her for the character space. I enjoy the dirge still. It is the only reason I remain playing. Defilers....I keep hoping they get better, and since Fan Faire I have waited and watched while they got worse and worse to the point I doubt I could ever get the bad taste out of my mouth. Scrap the defiler and start over with that class. Really. ~Eva <div></div>

Another lvl 50 defiler tossing her 2 coppers in. Disappointed - yes. My character only works in groups. My debuffs are nice. But as Zindi said with our damage so amazingly low we can't afford to use the power and casting time of our debuffs when we need to spam our HO's. The defiler is no longer fun. I have also switched to an alt and play her more often then not. Make us fun to play again... <div></div>

My turn, I play a lvl 50 defiler, I'm one of the ones Zindi refered too. I play a monk who is now lvl 45, shes lots of fun. I detest soloing as a defiler, it's sooooo boring. My monk can take on more mobs or use to than Kaida could ever think of doing. Takes so long to kill mobs as a defiler and now we are even worse. I kept hoping like Evadne said, and I don't think we as a class will ever be worth anything. Kaida lvl 50 Defiler (semi Retired) Chii lvl 45 Monk <div></div>

For the most part all healing classes are disappearing from the test server. The consensus is they simply are no fun to play due to a MAJOR lack in damage. Most of the people that still play healers in our guild at least do so for raids and to group with friends. They play an alt when they don't feel they HAVE to play a healer for the benefit of the "group".Yes, I'm sure live servers have alot of healer classes because of the high numbers needed for raiding but how many people do you think play a healer that don't raid.Give all healer classes a big nuke or tanking pet, anything to keep people playing them please...who's going to heal me <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

(Sucks, 'cause the more people decide that they want to do damage over all else, the less important I become, heh. At least they'll take a while to get past 50.) Of course, I'm having the opposite reaction: I love playing my baby Fury because she actually *survives* fights. They take longer but she can do more of them. Of coure, I've never leveled a healer past 20 so we'll see how I like playing Nimari in a few weeks. But there's a fair amount of "Grass is greener" from most people. The way classes are broken up, such that you have no secondary function (you are EITHER offensive, with high DPS and no way to protect yourself, or you are defensive, with high survivability but low damage) it's very easy to ge jealous of the other side. For example, my Assassin is now easy to solo because I've been doing it since February, but as I've rolled and leveled other toons I've discovered that pretty much every class in the game is easier to learn to solo than a predator. And when I play my low-level non-scout toons, I'm jealous of all the people for whom those are their main classes, heh. But back to the topic at hand: I definitely agree that people need incentives to keep and level healers. They're simply too vital to have disappearing from the game.</span><div></div>

Well, my level 41 dirge can kill three times as many of the EXACT same mob as my level 50 defiler in the same amount of time. 3/1 9 levels lower than the defiler. Hrm. ~Eva <div></div>
