<DIV>I've been having a problem recently with the SK skill Dreadful Wrath.  This skill does a good amount of damage and has a debuff attached, and is one of my primary workhorse skills for both solo and group play.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>However, when grouping with Dagon (Who has the Adept III of the skill compared to my App IV) I cannot use the skill at all - every time I try the message "Would not take effect" comes up. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My assumption is that the game is not letting me use my skill because the debuff component is  smaller than the Adept III version that Dagon is using.  Unfortunately, this negates one of my best damage skills - and one of the only ones efficient enough for me to use in a group, and means that in a group that contains a SK with a higher Dreadful Wrath than I have, I'm much much less useful (Particularly against higher level mobs, where the only skill I have which would hit is Dreadful Wrath)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When a skill has a debuff component in addition to a damage component, it should never be fully negated because the debuff component would not take effect.  I should still be able to use Dreadful Wrath for damage, and the debuff component should simply be lost.  </DIV>

<DIV>Oh!  Thanks for reminding me.  This hasn't happened in a week so I keep forgetting to mention it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I get "Would Not Take Effect" fairly often -- or did, the last week has apparently been good -- when <EM>soloing</EM>.  It's happened with Pathfinding when I try to recast before the full 30 minutes are up, and it's happened with one of my two DoT non-stealth combat arts.  Being that I only have four melee non-stealth combat arts, I really can't stand to lose any when I'm soloing (although I admit that since I <EM>finally</EM> got my PGT, it's been a bit easier, hehe).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One player's suggestion was that I might have cast something the first time while I was under the influence of a buff that increased my Assassination ability, and that therefore the second attempt wouldn't stack because the first was more powerful by two levels -- essentially the same problem Pond's describing with SK skills.  Unfortunately, since we no longer have the option of viewing automatically-leveling skills like assassination, I can't take a look to see what mine is at any given time.  I have something like five buffs that last 30-90 seconds that increase my abilities, not to mention that I constantly have at least one if not both scout buff HOs counting down, *and* that my stealth ability increases my Assassination by 10 points (for a more powerful first hit, I suppose)... so what I'm getting at there is that I have no idea whatsoever which skills of mine are being modified at any given time, and so I have no way of testing the theory.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>While we're on the issue of skills... it'd be really, really nice if a skill that doesn't work against an Epic mob still included the damage component.  I don't care about the root or the stifle but as often the only DPS in the raid party I sure hate sitting on my thumb waiting for reuse timers when I have a perfectly good 200 damage skill that I can't use at all because it has a root in it.  I don't care about rooting the mob generally unless I'm soloing anyway.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>/whinging</DIV><p>Message Edited by EtoilePB on <span class=date_text>07-11-2005</span> <span class=time_text>08:16 AM</span>

I'd also like to echo the epic mob exception sentiment - it would be really great if my shield bashes that are taunts would work on epics for the taunt at least, even if the stun component was negated.  It really hurts the viability of SKs for tanking big mobs to have one of our taunts completely unusuable.

It doesn't just hurt the SK, it hurts everybody.  As a defiler, with other defilers in the raid or group I often get the msg.  These are with my dot's my debuffs, heals, even wards.   I can tell you when we went to Fan Faire they did address this in one of the panels.  And it is in the works to be fixed in the combat/spell upgrade. <P>With the new combat changes it will be affecting all of this so that the damage from the spells will still go through but the debuff will just no effect the target. as for pathfinding problem i have had that happen to me on my assassin as well and what happens is you have an ability that ups one of your skills by 5 or 10 i dont remember and if you cast pathfinding while using that buff it is kinda a higher lvl pathfinding then the one you cast without it so it will not over write it even though the % amout increase to speed never changes.</P> <P> </P> <P>Message Edited by Zevk on <SPAN class=date_text>07-12-2005</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>04:50 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Zevk on <span class=date_text>07-12-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:50 PM</span>
