<DIV><IMG src="http://www.dopplex.net/ARGH.jpg"></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Found my first solo metal chest ever in the instanced zone The Hideout in Splitpaw this afternoon.  This instance has no internal revive points, and has both solo and group paths.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I healed up fully, warded myself, opened the chest, and died instantly.  My only revive point was outside the zone.  It was an instance, so no possibility of rez.  Also, as it was an instance, I couldn't have gotten a scout to come and pick it for me</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Risk is all well and good, but it isn't right to allow a player the thrill of having gotten a Metal Chest and then make it so that the design makes it ungettable.  No matter what I did, there was no way for me to have gotten that chest, even if I had known that it had two deadly traps ready to go off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Being that I've never gotten a Master drop before in my whole EQ2 playing time, it felt absolutely awful.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm all for challenge, but I prefer my fights to be winnable, and it stings when I'm taunted by something like this metal chest only to find out that it was entirely a tease, and that my best option would have been to walk away and let the chest decay.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If it's a solo instance with no revive points, there should be no situation in which I have no options other than dying or ignoring the chest entirely.  Insta-death in spite of all precautions is not fun, and when it's the only Master chest I'm likely to see drop just for me in possibly my full character life... it's practically enough to make me cry and want to toss the computer out the window.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Please come up with a better risk/reward scenario for these situations, because what happened to me is just completely unfair.  I can deal with losing something like a master chest due to my own stupidity or carelessness.  I can't deal with losing it because there was no way to open it without dying.</DIV>

<P>Ouch ...</P> <P> </P> <P>I know that really bites, and I do feel your pain (being a class that cannot disarm). However, I believe that that is the purpose of having trapped chests.</P> <P> </P> <P>I know that the feeling of loss,  having had similar situations happen to me .. however, that is the nature of the beast.  While I dont enjoy those scenarios, I do understand the fundamental reason for them to exist.</P> <P> </P> <P>Heiro</P> <P> </P>

<P>Sure, but if only scout classes can open master chests, then why let them drop in solo encounters?</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>All classes can open the chests, its just that scouts can attempt to disarm.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have taken MUCH damage from chests..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have died from chests...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If I had a chest of loot, I would trap it so that anyone else who opened it woul die too <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>if it was anyone but Pondscum,  I would agree Kella <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>J/K -  much love Pond ... and it looks like they fixed that issue.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I dont want my post to be misconstrued as being heartless or cruel,  just that by the very nature of traps, death for those of us who cant disarm is a real possibility, and one that I have become accustomed to ... much like the forge deaths .. and the occasional GM killing of me...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any how... I am glad that they addressed this issue <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  as I am sure all non - scout archetypes are also <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I'm not so much against the traps doing harm - it's more about having it be set up so that there is no possible circumstance in which I can obtain the contents of the drop.  Kill me as much as you want if I can run back without the zone resetting - but when my only revive option is outside the instance, the chests should not be one shot killing through every defense I can possibly put up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There should always be some way of successfully looting the chest.  In this situation, there was none, and the Master chest itself was simply a cruel tease.  Again, it isn't the death I'm complaining about.  Death I can take.  It's that the setup, within a solo instance, essentially negated the master chest drop, and left me with no opportunity or options to successfully loot the chest.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also - the issue they fixed wasn't this - this is an issue with Master chests only, since they double fire the trap - and in that situation, a deadly trap isn't fatal to just the careless - it'll take out anyone who trips it.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Ceruline on <span class=date_text>07-08-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:12 PM</span>

<P>I think traps should be able to kill you, just not in solo zones.  Kinda defeats the purpose otherwise.</P>

I was Killed last night by a deadly Trap.  Was in the harclave, didn't have full health yet, but had plenty of health I thought.  Got hit for almost 2500 damage.  My only saving grace is it wasn't a Master Chest. I agree with Shunidar, Chests shouldn't kill you in a solo zone.  We have no option of disarming them, since we are forced to solo the zones. <div></div>
