A fellow named Eldatur just told the /Test channel that SoE had copied (not moved) his toon from Lucan D'Lere to Test. He said he had worked hard, had written the crusader/pally guide, been invited to attend the recent summit as the pally representative, and had earned it.

We work hard on Test too. I have a 44 monk on Mistomoore who is 9 levels higher than my highest toon on Test, a 35 warden. Having her here would enable me to do that much more testing, from the point of view of level and class. I hope it is reasonable to ask that people who have proven themselves to be productive testers get to have their toons copied over too. It would be so nice if my guild on my old server didn't lose the status my toon there has earned just because she is being used to test. If that is too much to ask, even an opportunity to transfer would be nice.

Thank you SoE for your consideration.

Edowen

Heya Edo,

Most if not all of the characters that have been copied to test, have been for a specific reason of testing, say a raiding zone or some other high end gaming aspect that this time we on test may not be fully capable of doing. (we ARE growing though and raids of extreme measures are not that far off..WTG).

I'm not sure of the QA's position on bringing over live toons of dedicated testers. I know that Purr has one as well that they would love to have moved over. Personally I see nothing wrong with moving live characters over for those testers that have been here as long as you and Purr have. But it might be a move instead of a copy. I would suggest getting in touch with the higher ups on the food chain and see what they say.

Copying is a *really* sticky subject. I think that I'd be okay with Test players being able to copy their Live toons over after they've demonstrated a certain amount of commitment to Test, but I'd be a lot more comfortable with moves rather than copies.

Copying to a certain extent feels like the player is getting a "free" version of their character here that they didn't have to work for (After all, if I wanted two Pondscums on my account, I'd have to level another character), since they are also retaining the character on their original server.

If any sort of copy/move mechanism is opened up though, I very strongly want it to only be for those who have shown they are *committed* to Test (Which I think you are - I'm talking about the system as a whole rather than your specific case) This is also why I'd prefer it to only be a move - a move is much more of a commitment to the server.

I'm not particularly happy about that "class representative" being copied over, as I am not entirely satisfied that he has, in fact, earned it. We shall see if he actually proves to be a contributing member of the community, I suppose...

Cimee,

This particular individual was very clear about what had happened. His toon was copied. It now exists on Test and on Lucan D'Lere. He was copied as SoE's way of saying thank you for his work. At least that is what he said. It was not about helping with raids at all.

As I said in my original note, it would be very nice if SoE could also copy the toons of people who they know are dedicated testers, but that the option of a transfer could be an alternative. I hope my note came across as politely as it is intended. Not knowing exactly who has the authority to make such a decision within SoE, I felt that this area would be a good place to make the issue known to whomever is most appropriate.

Edowen

It actually happens quite often and one thing he said I agree with. He earned it. Not that you haven't but he is obviously trusted and they have all the information they need from him to ensure he will be a positive influence on the server and not a negative one.

This issue is (at least for me personally) not a matter of who has earned anything by doing what ever. It's an issue that people who have proven to be dedicated to Test, are unable to recover at least part of the time they put into the game before SoE even went puplic with the idea of having a test server for EQ2 (like for EQ1).

Particularly my main that I played on another EQ server had gotten herself established as crafter and adventurer on that server. I worked to get equipment and stuff for my house. Now because of SoE's policy NOT to give Europeans the chance to move to test, this toon and everything she earned is out of my reach and completely worthless for me. After waiting months I finally gave up on her and gave most of her suff away.
I started over on Test and have not regreted it for a second. I love playing here and I wouldn't go back if you would pay me. What bothers me is that: I can't even get a paid move to Test to recover pets etc. while others with no relation to Test whatsoever just get a copy over here. I am not against copies or moves or the people who are lucky enough to get such treatment. But I point out to any SoE representative that this will not make any regular Tester any happier. 4 people of our 6 person guild have already left. How many do you need to loose before you wake up ? Testers are as cheap as it is possible, all they require is a little hospitality and an ear for their problems which at the end are really your problems, SoE. And as cheap as Testers are for you, NO testers will be darn expensive for the company.

As for those copies: Will they start playing the copy here or go back to their original server ? Time will tell, but what I saw so far : 90 % of those so called Helping-with-Tests hang around for a few days and then you won't see them again till the next new test content hit's our server. Getting more dedicated people to test - you will not - with that method, as Yoda would say. Bad politics SoE, bad treatment of your testers and no appreciation for what those testers do for you everyday, on their own time and money. Bad politics, bad public relations ... bad management.

Just my 2 cp.

PurrVerse
50 Carpenter / 27 Troubado(u)r - Qeynos
tons of other crafters and adventurers - all under 30 atm

Message Edited by Purrfect on 06-29-2005 09:38 PM

As others have said, copying characters to Test is a pretty rare thing for us to do. Not only do we prefer not to drastically alter the Test server community (you are your own server and community, and we know that), but character copies are a very tedious process at the moment. I'll talk with some folks about getting existing Test server players copies (or more likely transfers, as those are much easier to do). That said, we did copy a select few players to Test who we invited out to the Community Summit. While I know these players aren't necessarily part of your community, they are all good people who would like to help us test out the game. Please make them feel welcome.

I spoke with "the man" and he has given me the okay to grab a few names for copies. If you are an established member of the Test server community and would like to have a character copied over from Live, we may be able to take care of that for you.

Please send me the name of your main character on Test as well as the character and server name of the Live character you want copied. We're going to be fairly picky about who we copy over, as it is a time-consuming process. However, if you're at least level 20 or so on Test (depending on how many emails I get, that level could be higher), email me your information to get a character copied over. My email address is [email protected]. If for some reason that bounces (it's an alias), you can use [email protected]. Note that it could be a while (a week or two) before we get the character copied over, and we can opt not to copy your character, but we'll do our best. You will also likely see just a few more faces from the community as well (mostly Live characters of developers or Community Summit attendees), so please don't try to scare us off.

I would be interested in another round of moves to Test. I have a 38 SK on Lucan D'Lere that I would like to bring over, but I'm not interested in it being a copy of what I have on Lucan D'Lere. So, I'm hoping that we see another round of /movelogs being offered.

I've already emailed you about copying my main from Mistmoore, Irgul, to Test. However, I also wanted to thank you semi-publicly, here. The offer to get some of our characters on Live servers copied or transferred here to Test is very much appreciated.

No doubt about it, we could use more dedicated people who are willing to pitch in and function as members of the Test community. I'd expect that people who want to join in with the rest of us will be most welcome.

Edowen

Wouldnt it be a better idea to move those characters from live to test instead of copying?

The people that can post here already play on test as their main server but usuallly have a character on live that they played before moving to test.

My wife and I both have characters on Lucan D'Lere that we havent touched since we started on test. Of course, we gave our characters on test the same names they had on live and our test characters are now higher level than our old live characters. Moving wouldnt help us, but it would be nice for other testers.

The reason why I asked for a copy rather than a transfer is that I don't want my old guild on Mistmoore to have to suffer the loss of my toon's guild status points. I have not played her at all since coming to Test (did stop by once to say hello), but her points still contribute to that guild. They are really nice people, and don't deserve to lose anything just because I prefer to participate on Test.

Edowen

Thanks for the semi-public recognition of the issue, Blackguard.

And while it might be to late for me to recover most of my stuff from Innovation (I will still send you an e-mail with the data you asked for) I really hope that getting former mains moved (or copied) over here to test will give our Testers a bit of a boost and a more positive outlook for things ahead.

Thanks to The Man and You ...

Purr~
50 Carpenter /27 Troubado(u)r + tons of others
Test Server = priceless

I agree with Purrfect; while it may be too late to salvage my character from the live servers, it's appreciated to finally have this issue clarified in a pseudo-official manner. Having said that, I am, however, concerned about this becoming a one-shot occurrance. If this is going to be allowed to continue, there should be some type of guidelines that govern the character moves and copies. In addition, reassurance that this grant to the testers will not simply "disappear" on a whim would be helpful.Blackguard, you mentioned that copies are more difficult than moves. Why is this the case, and what exactly about the copy (or move) process is tedious?
Message Edited by Anthony Gorecki on 06-30-2005 09:08 PM

Posting it here cause dont know if you want a new thread started or not.

I recently had my my lvl 48 assassin named Jithel copied to test from live and as it stands now he can not pick up any no-drop/no-trade items in his own house even though they are his and he was the one to earn them. dont know if this is a bug from the copie or you ment it to be thins way but it would be nice if i ever decide to rearrange my house to be able to do so. also when short on cash to sell my heritage items.
