View Full Version : Sooo how about a LU28 preview, or a 'future plans' post in Dev Roundtable?

Was reading around looking for some info on whats next.I guess with EoF launching in 2 LU's they aren't in a hurry to put anything big into the pipeline while they want most staff working on beta testing and closing out stuff in there (starting Wednesday) but still... just curious. The Developer Roundtable place seems like it could use a new post by someone with 'future plans' laying out generally where they want to go. The last one (from July I think) seems to have been completly exhausted (and the crafting writs are 'past' that posts' plans) so it'd be nice to know what the devs have planned for Oct-Feb or whatever.I guess if their 'plans' has to do with enhancements to new things going in EoF that would explain it, but I'm just guessing thats the reason they have been quiet about things lately.Does anyone know anything new, mabye something I missed from one of those stratics sessions or whatever?Any more new instances (ala Nek3) planned? Whats the next adventure pack going to be about, or at least what will it be targeted towards (always wondered if they'd do a 'crafter' adv pack, or a pure 'raiding' adv pack, or a 'solo only' adv pack, or keep with the mix they've been doing)They said they are done with combat revamps and stuff like that so whats the next 'big' thing they are looking to tackle... I gotta' say I loved the traps in Nek3 and would like to see more of that. I remember them talking about putting more crafting spots around the world (in a response to people complaing about the ice float going away)Anyway, does anyone have more info, or wish to venture a guess what the future holds?

I wouldn't be surprised if GU28 is EoF. With beta about to start, I imagine the pool most of their resources into getting the expansion live.

I'm betting there's a couple more LU's before EoF, just based on the god quests. So far, we've only seen M. Marr - C. Thule and Quellious - Zek. As far as good/evil goes, we still need to hear from Tunare - Inny and the neutrals Brell and Ro. Based on that alone (which is of course pure speculation) that leaves us two more LU's, plus possibly one for a live event to "bring it all together."

Who knows how many there will actually be between now and EoF, but I'm sure anxious to find out :smileyhappy:

i know its a little bit offtopic, but i would like to see a live dev tracker, where we can see (without being able to put comments on it) what the dev's are currently planning for the next Game update ...test server is for testing, test tracker would be awesome

My guess is they Plan two more LUs prior to EoF launch, though Plans change. Reguardless we are going to likly get atleast one more LU befor EoF as there is a)too much time not to have one and b) they need to put the other 4 Heralds into the game.

However, I don't think the OP is talking about the LUs leading up to EoF but is looking at what the plan is for the Post-EoF updates, as pritty much the last Big Plan as for the most part been implimented.

My understanding is there are no "big plans" such as the revamps of combate and TSing, wich will allow them to spend more Dev time on Addtional content instead of Mechanics, However there is one thing the devs have stated they are working on and that is a streamlining of the skellital Models of PCs so that they can impliment things such as new and unque Armor Models faster.

Well the regular schedule is for an LU per month, but not sure if they missed a month before KoS and Dof were launched. If that holds, there should be 2 LU's before EoF launches (perhaps 1 as it launches like they did with DoF and LU13/combat revamp)That would mean next LU woudl be somewhere in Mid october (11th or so) and the next one when EoF launches in the 15th of Nov I think.I would think the next LU will introduce the next 2 gods (putting us at 6) and the final LU will give us the last 2 or 3. Again if they lauch EoF with an LU perhaps it will be 3, or if not perhaps the LU will go live with 2 and the 9th prophet only be put in on launch day...There is some sense to making the Nov LU go live before EoF (mainly to do the 2 prophet quests) but not sure if the timing will work (they'd need to get LU 29 up in 1st week of Nov for that)Of course they can just give us 4 prophet quests in the next LU and surprise all of us...who knows... but again I guess thats the purpose of the thread But yeah I was asking more generally about what is next... Basically that July letter in Dev Roundtable, only a new one for Oct - Feb or whatever.I only mentioned the EoF date because I was hypothesizing that the reason for no new info was that it delt with EoF and the gods, so they were holding out on it. I hope not though, that would mean no update until Mid Nov on future plans

Message Edited by Gargamel on 09-18-2006 02:56 PM

It's closer to 1.5 months for an lu these days, but there were soem prety big lu's recently.I would expect at least one more, to add in quests for tuna and inny as the others have said. Beer brelly and solsecksy may not have quests, though if they do I would expect the same update based on my understanding of when eof comes out (nov. or dec).No new major zones are being worked on if I remember correctly, I doubt we will see anything on the order of nek 3 either. Mostly, I expect to see tweaks to classes, particulary aa's. Maybe more small scale quests.

Though Halloween would fall right into the time frame I am thinking of; so it is possible that lu28 will be the halloween stuff. Last year was trick or treating, the haunted houses and a quest in antonica. I would expect it to be simmlier, except possibly shifting the quest from ant to cl and new/different masks.

Those adventure packs just for certian groups, crafting, raid, solo, group, is a freaking great idea. Everyon would have the option to get whatever ones they want so know one would be left out really that would be sick. You like to solo and craft get those two into raids and big groups get those, what a cool concept. :smileyvery-happy:

the fluke wrote:It's closer to 1.5 months for an lu these days, but there were soem prety big lu's recently.

Actually LU's (which they seem to be calling GU (game update) these days) have generally ranged from 3 to 5 weeks, like you said, probably depending on content and how smoothly the 'testing' goes. They also seem to prefer Wednesday's for patch day (guess enough time M/T to tie up loose ends, enough time R/F if something goes wrong... heh)In addition, looking at the dates it would seem expansion packs generally are 9ths in (DoF), then 5mths in (KoS), and then 9mths in (EoF) which seems like its the biggest one yet, by description and timeline (you have to figure some of the 9mths of the core game to DoF expansion was spent 'fixing' alot from the original EQ2 launch). And you can 'guess' that the next expansion would fall either in May '07 (if they are doing small expansion / big expansion) or as late as August '07 if they do another biggie. Finally Adv. Packs are a wildcard... they seemed to be coming every 3-4 months to start, but I guess they didn't do as well as SoE had hoped and slipped with a major lag before the most recent one was put out. Though during that break alot was done to the core game (from combat revamp, to offline selling, to many 'new' raid zones, to crafting revamp and writs, (finally got T6 carpenter rare recipies, heh), the prophet quests, etc so mabye it was just a shift in priorities for a while. Live Update #1: January 6, 2005 Live Update #2: February 1, 2005 Live Update #3: February 17, 2005 Live Update #4: March 8, 2005 Live Update #5: March 21, 2005 (The Bloodline Chronicles) Live Update #6: April 6, 2005 Live Update #7: April 20, 2005 Live Update #8: May 4, 2005 Live Update #9: May 26, 2005 Live Update #10: June 8, 2005 Live Update #11: June 28, 2005 (The Splitpaw Saga) Live Update #12: July 20, 2005 Live Update #13: September 13, 2005 (Desert of Flames) Live Update #14: October 5, 2005 Live Update #15: October 19, 2005 Live Update #16: November 09, 2005 Live Update #17: November 30, 2005 Live Update #18: December 20, 2005 Live Update #19: February 2, 2006 Live Update #20: February 21, 2006 (Kingdom of Sky) Live Update #21: March 23, 2006 Live Update #22: April 13, 2006 Live Update #23: May 3, 2006 Live Update #24: June 14, 2006 Game Update #25: July 13, 2006 Game Update #26: August 9, 2006Game Update #27: September 6, 2006Game Update #28: October 11, 2006 (est)Game Update #29: November 15, 2006 (est) <--- EoF Launch date according to several game news sources (also a wednesday.. heh)
Though with those dates... an Oct 11th update for LU28, I would really have expected at least a LU28a notes to up already... doesn't bother me if its later, thats why I ask about a new "Developer Roundtable" post.P.S.
If they continue the way they have been. I expect the first part of the next GU will go to test Wednesday and depending on how big it is go live 2 or 3 weeks later. I do expect at least one more before EoF.

As for the next expansion after EoF. If they keep to what they said after KoS was released the next one will be at least 9 months after EoF launches so you are looking at August or so. They said they are slowing down how fast they launch the expansions to guartnee they have time to test them properly.

Now what I would love to see with EoF is that if they run into some problems during the upcoming Beta that they don't release it until it is ready. I would much rather it be delayed a month or so then have major problems pop up they keep having to fix.

Dont look for a delay. They don't like doing it because people plan days off around expansions. If they are having troubles, it's much more likely they'll just put in 20+ hour days to at the least make it tolerable.

Message Edited by Deson on 09-19-2006 12:32 PM

Message Edited by Deson on 09-19-2006 12:32 PM

I just wish they would never release a date for when an expansion is going live until it is ready to go live. I am hoping though that they have put enough time into this expansion so that it will be better with fewer problems.
