This has been brought up before. Also, what would be the point? If anything, it'd encourage AFK playing even more.

I have a feeling that this is indeed something they are planning to implement, but not until they finish redoing the skeletal system as any changes to that will affect the code of the former (I think), and the revamp of the skeletal system isnt going to be something completed soon.

I do have to say that I'm very happy with the game now. I left over a year ago and the changes they've made were, for the most part, very good changes. This type of addition would be welcome, after all this IS a "next generation" MMO, and other games have this in them. SOE has the technology to do this as SWG has it in. There's more reasons for having it than not having it.

I agree it would be a nice option to have, it really isn't the same kneeling on a chair, although at least it gives the impression of sitting . The devs have stated on multiple occasions, however, that the resources required to do the animations for each race and each size of chair would be extensive... and I'd really rather they fixed the furnishings that can't be placed properly, bugged rooms or duplicate graphics before they did sitting animations.

hang on, this been used in other topic about sitting animations or e-motings

anyway, it seem good news, hopefully if that going to happen.

just barely 4-6 weeks agom SOE just bought a Denver gaming firm, so these guys have experiences with other games, if those guys do have talents to make our characters to be able to sit properly. we will have to wait and see, they need 2-3 months to get ready, they have other business obligations to take care first.

it is a shame this is next generation MMORPG and with advanced programs and we cant sit?

The devs did however say they are working on streamling the Caractor Skelliton modles, and once this is done it will alow for easier updatablity.

The developers answered this a long time ago.

I believe the reason that it was not possible is that there would need to be more chair sizes and such for all the different sized characters.

An example given was something like how ridiculous it would be to have a large troll sitting in a twig like chair designed for a gnome...

Anyway, if you search the forums for Moorgard's posts, you should be able to find it.

In short: Not going to happen.

Yeah I read their reasons but I don't see the problem. In WoW a Gnome and an Elf can sit in the same chair. The Gnome sits with their cute feet hanging in the air such as a real life short person sits while the tall Elf sits awkwardly with knees up. Just like a real life tall person. I don't see the problem. A tall person can sit in small chair.I believe it is more because of their second reason which is because it would be a lot of work to setup all the different skeletons to do it. FOr instance the Froglock and an Elf would have to have their sit stance done seperately therefore creating more work. In Vangaurd all the races have the same skeleton which enables them to easily sit down and make new armors. But then again races with same skeletons can be boring.I suspect one day we will be able to sit.

DEV QUOTE:The devs have stated on multiple occasions, however, that the resources required to do the animations for each race and each size of chair would be extensive...

Why don't they just make every chair in game the exact same height. They could still have many different types and looks for them, just make sure the are the same height off the ground. Then you only have to make one animation for each race type. It don't seem like it would be all the hard. But then again I'm not a programmer so maybe I'm wrong. And as far as beds go, they already have this animation, just use the FD one. I see screenies of Monks sleeping all the time.

Message Edited by InTristin on 09-12-2006 12:05 AM

you can take your chair with you now to XP... but you don't own the spot where you XP...so you can't use the chair anyway...

and the city park benches don't move... again I'll say i brought this up because im playing EverQuest2 not EverXPing

and getting into all aspects of the game to me is more important than how fast can i hit lvl70 ,art lvl 9

then become the jerk that most lvl70s,art lvl 9 turn out to be in game...there rude and think they own everything when there in a zone

so pardon me for bringing it up....

there now slam me again

Crashing down on a bed should be an easy one, you just use the FD posture already in place.

Then for very small (or large) seats that it isn't practical for certain sized characters to sit on they can just return a message saying "this seat is to big/small for you".However I would imagine retrofitting this into the game is more difficult/tedious than if it had been designed in from the start, which to me seems a remarkable oversight.

Message Edited by Arcanthis on 09-15-2006 07:59 AM

WoW just skips the animation. It doesn't make any difference when you're playing it, really - when you sit, the flavor is in the end result, not the animation required to go there. Standardize crafted chair heights to = public bench heights, and make a sitting posture for the models, and you're done.

Of course, it should be easier to do even that once the skeletons are revised.

you all give soe the excuse that its to hard to change this frames or chairs or whatever...

so explain then how the new suxy horses ( way to small ) are now one size fits all...

Horses always were one size fits all weren't they? (I never had a horse before beta so I don't know lol). But whether they were or not, SOE just invested huge amounts of time/work to totally re-do the full graphics and animations for mounts. To do it for sitting in chairs would require probably just as much time/work, especially since there are far more chairs than there are types of horses. Will they ever do it? Perhaps. It would be great, but I suspect that it won't happen unless they could incorporate it into some other graphic/animation upgrade given the amount of resources required.

I'm sure they know HOW to do it too. SWG has the option to sit on things and it too is an SOE game. They should do some cross game developer discussions (for SO many reasons).

Do you think they should add sitting animations and poses before, during, or after they redo the skeletons? Unless they want to do it twice, I'm guessing we'll have to wait until after the new skeletons are done before we see any more work on this kind of stuff.Thoral, 67 Bruiser, Mistmoore
