Didnt see any other posts mentioning it, so thought it throw one up.  On test now, when a mob taunts it is behaving in the same way as on pvp, ie target of the taunt has its traget forcably switched to the taunter.   Its a change that does make sense,  but could leave  folks wondering whats going on if they arnt ready for it - it will certainly make combat vs multiple-mobs more interesting, already my poor little assasin has had problems with her target bouncing around mid-cast vs groups of  tank-type mobs. <div></div>

<DIV>Yikes.  That change sounds like it can cause alot of problems when trying to kill groups since you will have a hard time trying to focus on one mob.  Guess it will make it even more of a requirement to have a main tank and a main assist so that the tank holding agro can afford to have his target bounce around while the main assist will be able to focus on just one mob.</DIV>

Sounds great!  It will make the mobs feel a bit more like they actually have an AI.I agree that it might make more sense, after the change, to have an MA seperate from the MT since the MT -should- be getting the taunts as long as he is highest on the hate list.  But.. it will also make an MT job more involved because now he'll need to watch what he actually has targetted.Good change!  Adds to the complexity in a more subtle way.<div></div>

This doesnt make sense from a gaming standpoint or a role-playing standpoint, and I suspect it will never see a live server and if it does, it will promptly be removed. The whole point of PCs VS MOB groups is that the mobs have all the advantages in terms of playing ability.  They do things that no PC and have abilities that no PC can have because they are mobs!  The point of the game is to have a group of people work together to coordinate their efforst to defeat much more powerful mobs. Putting in some random mob taunt that switches the targets just causes more confusion to an already muddy game.  PCs should always have the option to attack whatever target they want...thats why mobs are always more powerful, because players are usually smarter.  Unless charmed, there is no reason a PC should ever lose control of their targeting system, thats basically the foundation of EQ2.  Everything happens through the targeting sysytem, whether its heals or damage or assist or mezzes.  Having to check your target every few seconds does nothing for the game in terms of strategy, it just means you need to click another button. The game is built around picking and choosing your targets, something like this seriously breaks that.

I agree (fwiw), great change!  It does make the mob's almost seem like they have AI, and it does make one think a bit during combat instead of just mindlessly mashing buttons.  I hope this makes it to live

<DIV>I agree, nice change, it makes things fair.  we can taunt the mobs why can't they taunt us? </DIV>

<P>I've enjoyed this change so far.  Keeps things a bit interesting.  It's not going off so frequently that it's "completely random" and actually often makes sense when it goes off.  The lower tanks tend to try to keep aggro off healers and more potent named types.  They dont use the ability as frequently as a player will, but enough to give variety to the fights.</P> <P> </P> <P>I hope this goes live.</P> <P> </P>

biggest problem i see is if for some reason a mob were to taunt a healer they would be unable to heal the MT, if this is added they need to add  a second target a defencive target where heals damage shields etc will land, or make it so that if you are targeting a player that your target won't switch to the mobs.

Is it fair that NPC's can use their side and stealth attacks on us while in front of us and in plain sight? Heck no. I don't want this change unless they completely level the playing field for PC's vs NPC's and remove things like what I just mentioned.

<DIV>Had this happen to me the first time the other day, and the 2 mobs weren't even grouped, the add I had just taunted me and I actually turned to face him and start attacking.  I don't think there was any retarget delay but I'm not sure it caught me off guard, so I hesitated before trying to switch back.</DIV>

The problem is that NPCs are always going to have the advantage of speed. I think that's what Standupwookie was trying to say, but was thinking faster than typing. (analogy intended) I don't mean running speed, I mean decision making speed. I mean speed in turning thinking into action. MOb's [Mobile Objects] are computer constructs and as such make decisions and perform operations far faster than we humans. They don't have to convert thoughts into real muscle movements. That is why taunting was never given over completely to the mob. One of the big draws for EQ is that it is not a game of dexterity. You don't have to be a button mashing maniac in order to compete with computer contructs. That's why this game genre is so popular across so wide an audience. You can play sedately and successfully, or you can play wicked mad action just as successfully, or any speed in between. <div></div>

Interesting.  Given that a taunted mob already has its focus locked on a specific target, I'm wondering how that mob would then target other party members for taunting?<div></div>
