View Full Version : Charm is a core ability of Troubadors

<DIV>The proposed charm changes take Charm away from Troubadors and turn it into a suicidal, ineffective mez. I can put up with the Troub changes to Cheap Shot and Mez; those are secondary abilities of the Troub, but Charm is not. Just as Illusionists and Coercers both have mesmerize as a core ability, Troubadors and Coercers have Charm as a core ability. It changes the heart of what a Troubador is to get rid of Charm. It's like taking Taunt away from Guardians.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just as mez has been balanced equally between Illusionist and Coercer in LU24, so should charm be balanced between Troubador and Coercer. I understand the reason to reduce the amount of control spells that full groups can cast, but charm needs to be spared. Bards already get the short end of the stick with no poison and no stances. We make up for it with excellent indirect damage in big groups, but, with charm gone, there's nothing left for us when we are soloing or in a duo/trio. Charm needs to last at least the length of a solo or heroic encounter, not eight seconds.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It might help to make it a no combat spell, where it can be cast only if its target is not in combat, or to increase the concentration requirements, but cutting the duration to eight seconds is the same as erasing one of our core abilities from our books.</DIV>

I will say that the recent reduction in our DPS has caused me to rely heavily on my Charm in solo situations (and I solo a lot). I'm talking on blue-con two- and three-arrows-down solo encoutners. When our charm is changed un the upcoming patch, I'm not sure what I'll do.

I rely on it to solo especially after the Aria nerf. But mez is more important to me if we could only have one changed reversed from this patch. <div></div>

<DIV>If these changes go live i will certainly stop playing. I've invested so much time and love into my troub but without these two core abilities i will be finished, as i know a lot of other troubs also will be. The only way i can handle a semi-tough mob or group is with mez and/or charm. These abilities are what makes playing fun for me. On facing a challenging situation i have to stop and think.. what will i charm to best defeat my foe... do i also need to mez one of the others... and even with good planning it's often tough winning a fight that many classes would hardly notice. They are also useful in a group and i would hate to lose this, but the class will be completely un-soloable without these abilities.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>These changes are just too much. I almost feel like quitting now because they've even considered it. I will wait to see if they go live, but doubt i'll be playing as much cuz i've just lost all motivation. What's the point in carrying on if this kind of rubbish is round the next corner??</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Devira, lvl 62 troub.</DIV>

<DIV>I chose to play a troubador because of charm, plain and simple. I solo because of my odd hours and lack of extended playing time. I wanted a character that could charm but could melee, so that meant Troubador. I still play my Coercer from time to time still but I just don't like standing back away from the action. Now I know that the Troubador is weaker solo than in groups, but I don't mind because it brings together the things that I think are fun - charm and melee. I'm not the strongest soloer, but I could care less what brigands or necros can solo, or coercers for that matter - it doesn't affect my enjoyment one way or the other.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For me, charm is the "fun factor". It is what makes my Troubador what he is. Without it, my Troub is the most boring class in the game.</DIV>
