View Full Version : Money sinks, think there is a dupe, hard to tell but easy to see on vox

With Vox being the new server... it is pretty easy to see total plat has gone from near example 2000 plat listed to about 3000 in last 6 hours..... the jump is bigger then normal progression.... anyways, if there is a dupe i don't hold much hope for a fast detection and fix... Now on to the real issue with almost every game out there and established servers.... At one point in time you guys had implemented a horse that was 90 plat i believe.... this was top end, if you could afford.... you had done some serious playing ( status symbol ). **** not saying people coudln't just buy one on se enabled**** but it was an accomplishment for any other server. Then you had everyone whining how they couldn't afford them and the prices dropped etc. OK I am a little tired.. but maybe someone else can articulate the point better..... Put stuff in game that is unique, very hard to get... takes both maybe a lot of lower tier rares, and A LOT of plat. THEN MAKE SURE you stress that these items are not for all players to have but those that wish to devote the extra resources into them. ( because yes, most people will whine that they are too much and everyone should have em. ) These games have outrageous inflation due to the inability of SOE to stop farmers etc.. what does that lead to? inflation and the starting players can't afford even basic items.... what does that do? Discourages new players.... I would think economy stability wuld be a big issue for all the problems it causes to almost any player at any level. 1. high level players get bored and leave because they have 1000's of plat and don't have anything to do with it... ( swg is an example.... 2. low level new players can't afford anything, feel they can't get going and leave... ( yes if you are a vet you know all the quests and know ways around it, but i am talking in general... en mass ) 3. The game progression is great and I think EQ2, is one of the games you can still feel a challenge or something still left to do ( more so then cake walk wow etc.. ) but Taking out some plat or slowing plat in the economy is big to prolonging or just keeping the game fun. A lot of people will disagree..... but in the 15 years i have played these games.... most were ruined by dupes... and many many people left those games, me included..... other games people stayed....... but one thing you hear from people from other games a lot, and no it is not just bragging is things like this. Yeah I had 1 billion credits on such and such... the game just got boring after that so i left. What I guess i was trying to say is... put something like a Museum shop in game.... where " rare and mystcial furniture can be acquired " for like 50 -250 plat or something.... like a big fountain for your room <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Or maybe a vendor with unique items like " bag of the void " A bag that when you dump treasured items in have a very very small chance of getting a rarer item....... Ok going to show my age..... One of the best things UO did ( one of the pioneers of these games was to intoduce one day garbage cans that when you put in your millions of items ( that were starting to cause server lag cause everyone had a million items stored <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />, would give you points you could later buy rare scrolls etc with.... HUGELY successful.... Those developers saw a problem, and actuallly brain stormed and took a day or 2 to write up some code that made many people happy for years, and also fixed server lagg issues..... That is just one example... hope some people can elaborate on this.... and I apologize for not taking the time to structure the post better..... <div></div>
<font color="#ff3399">We did just see one of the wealthiest guilds on the server dissolve, its leader along with them, but I don't see 1500 plat coming from it. Our auctions went from 6 or so pages to 10, with very large amounts being sold, fast, and cheap...people usually want to get rid of the evidence to not prove they had it in the first place, right?I agree, I think something a little to strange is going on with the pp on our server. Unless its a conspiracy by everyone on the richest list to sell all and run, I think it needs some looking into. With the exploits on just how some people gained their faction being overlooked, I will be really upset if this is something big and gets swept under the rug as well.Great post above, btw..I am not yet awake enough to elaborate anymore.Xaryssa65 Woodworker, Fp Vox</font><div></div>

Speculating about dupes is not useful and only gets people worked up over nothing. If you have solid evidence of duping, don't post here. Send a message to the devs, /bug or /report. All you do here is cause hysteria for no good reason.

Sorry Vikki I disagree. I think this is a perfect place to voice a concern about situations such as this...not the only place, but a place to start.

These kind of topics just become inflamed because of speculation and heresay. These type of threads usually end up getting locked because they get to heated. If there is real evidence of a dupe then the OP can do /report. Leave it out of the forum. The proper people will investigate and if there is an issue they will deal with it.

<DIV>raising awareness about issues, helps catch cheaters. (Because people look at things more closely)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>anyways, I think the bag of void idea is great, among the other things you said.</DIV>

<DIV>The evidence is so weak that it can only be inflammatory.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It seems far-fetched to say that because 1k more plat was listed on Station Exchange it MUST mean that someone is duping. Can we cry wolf a little louder than that?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Have you considered that it is more likely for people to list plat on certain days? Maybe right after the weekend? Or maybe start a 3-day auction near the beginning of the week so it ends on a Thursday or Friday? Or maybe the plat farmers are actually making more plat legitimately?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not even level 50 and I can make a plat just messing around for an evening. I'm sure a serious and dedicated level 70 plat farmer could make much more. Now add up the fact that there are probably hundreds of plat farmers on Vox and you could easily come up with 1k plat in one 24 hour period.</DIV>

Not going to argue the point vikki.... This is exactly how it happened when bazaar was new.... My concern is not a lot of plat got listed.. but that it was so far out of the normal progression it is obvious ( IMO) But i guess we could all just be quiet and not say anything or get opinions or get it into the public eye... wait till for example total plat in game goes from 10,000 to 1,000,000 in a day or 2. I am sure that would be much better.... Then we will have people getting banned like last time.. for just having a vendor up.... Others having ( what they thought legitimately gained coin ) deleted...... etc etc... Yeah i see your point.... why post any observations like this when over all plat listings have gone up a 10%, 20% 30%.... ohhh wait nm... they almost doubled in 6 hours... This isn't a normal progression of inflation..... I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't follow se much and don't see what just happened. I, however, do follow it quite a bit.. and this is by FAR out of the norm. <div></div>

and one last point i started voicing concerns of a dupe about 2 days ago on the se forum.. strange how it looks like everyone is scrambling to list 100's of plat now huh? Well, maybe i am the only one that finds it strange... AGAIN, this is following the exact same pattern as bazzar did with that huge mess of a dupe..... The sellers one day all decided to try and unload before soe fixed it.... I imagine some did get away with it before stopped.... Hope SOE learned their lesson this time.... <div></div>
