A preview or "Try it on" button with a race selector combo below it would be perfect. Then you could see what it will look like on your twink as well.

Message Edited by runamonk on 04-19-2006 09:39 AM

This is NOT a flame, but, I'm just curious... Am I the only one that is more worried about stats and mit than how I look? I currently look like some messed up care-bear with my pink/purple chest piece, my red/black pants, and grey arm pieces, but, the stuff works....

There are a lot of people that actually do value the look of their avatar more than the stats on the armor, amazing but true. I can sort of understand why they would care that much, but personally I don't. If it matches, great, if not, ahh well, i'll get a new piece later and try to match it.

Then there are the people with large amounts of Plat that have a set that they use for stats and an entire other set they use for looks. I personally don't have that much money, nor the bag space for that though, heh.

Message Edited by Cynto on 04-19-2006 01:39 PM

I could forgive the lack of a preview feature if there was some way to standardize the color for equipment. Adding dyes would be so incredibly sweet that I would be beside myself. Besides opening a new market for the tradeskillers it would fix the problem of people running around looking like rainbow brite.

But since this would be a hell of a lot more complicated to implement I'd just be happy for a way to preview broker items. A lot simpler.

A preview option is essential for house items and casual clothes (when they finally add them), as those are based almost exclusively on aesthetics as opposed to stats.

Looks matter to a number of people. While I wouldnt take a massive hit to stats to ensure that my toon looks good, it is a factor when Im shopping for new armor.

I would also like it to show the new stats for the player. That way we can see exactly if the 'new' item is really better than the old one.

still like stats over looks, and yes this is the armour I use .. I am going 2 buy a full set of that dragon stuff in t7 for nicer looks and good stats and resists

Cynto wrote:

There are a lot of people that actually do value the look of their avatar more than the stats on the armor, amazing but true.
I agree a try on or preview would be such a nice feature ... I know when I first started playing this game in 2004 I kept trying to find armor with no butt flaps (yes I posted about this elsewhere). All of us were starting out and back then low on cash but for some reason it was important to me. After wearing armor back then, you could pass it down so the risk involved in shopping for fashion was less. If you didnt' like the look resell the item you just bought. Now it must be attuned to see stat effects, and while you can buy it and not attune it to see the look, it means you must have cash flow to shop for looks. I myself have many outfits for different occasions so I am a freak like that. Emelda Marcos was into shoes, Lace is into outfits for screwing around heh.

The point is though a try on button would be so nice, especially for carpenters also. Sure you can bankroll alot of plat make one of every rare item and have a showroom but guess what a person seeing an item in your showroom can't see the stats, can't even find out the name of the item unless you are there to be one of those annoying salesmen asking if they can help you with anything today. And I wont lie some rare furniture looks like [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]. My carpenter always goes offline checks the picture and if I think its ugly I try to make the purchaser verify that is the look they are going for. If there was a preview I wouldn't have to second guess them or worry they will be dissatisfied with a choice.

Another benefit of try-on preview would help armorers, weaponsmiths, and tailors as well for folks like me who go for looks sometimes for guild events or just playing around not grinding. While the armor may be lets say T2 and you are T7 maybe you want some of that for hanging out or something.

A try-on preview adds another aspect of role play to the game and I think would stimulate the economy where folks aren't scared to fork over the cash on something sight unseen.

Or have it when you examine it, show it on some default human paperdoll image with the item on. That would work. Same thing would be great for house items, and how they look. Buying house things is kind of a blinded purchase if you don't know before hand what something looks like. there has been many times that I have purchased something and turned around and sold it due to the fact it was nontheless "ugly"Masuimi

a preview of the item when you examine it would do it , too . just the modell without anyone wearing it in a small window . this way we could see how linked items look like , too.

Great idea there !

We still need proper sitting and standing animations tho .

actually, wasnt it requested that you could just pick a 'look' from a set that you had already had....maybe a way you could put together the 'look' you like most and set it permanently or as part of a 'pick your look' list? That to me would mean much more. I loved the Oracle robe look, and the Bloodstained robe, and hated losing it to the next tier armor :smileysad:

how about even just an answer why dye's arent avalable yet? is it too hard to code? but yah, I agree that a preview of some sort would be awesome!

We definately need a preview pane. You would think looks would be a top-ish priority with all the boasting they do about their graphics engine and "stunning artwork". I hate buying something and when I put it on it's like that time I went to Goodwill to find a Halloween [Removed for Content] costume.

Dye is very EQ. It was around before Guild Wars.. which I have never even seen.

They've already stated that with the way armors were created for this game (different skin for each race/gender combination) it makes not only creating new armor difficult, but the whole dying process a huge project to implement (think having to program thousands of different tints for ~20 different skins... ouch).

The good news in all of this is that Sony is aware that the current way of creating new armor is very time intensive and is working on a way to simplify the process. When this happens, we can start lookin on the horizon for dyes, i hope!

Preview window? Definately yes! For any item. Then they could make standard icons for the items (less work from art team here) and invest on the preview functionality. Anyway I would imagine that somebody creates a pic of an item for art department to check on the looks right? Couldn't this be used? For me stats are important but if its a difference of 1 stat on this item vs that item I would like to choose based on the look - how it fits with the rest of the armor. As a swashie with Thief AA -line (my main) -> RP aspect - looks do matter and took ages (and lots of money) to find the look that is even close to what I want. Right now I'm trying to find a site that would have leather armor pics with stats for my druid alt (lvl 58 - so needs to consider t7 soon). Haven't found it yet so I keep searching. I have to say I am a typical female in the sense that I like the wows from guys when they look at my dark elf inquisitor alt in D'Morte plate - luckily it has both good wis stats AND sexy look (she is my seducer :smileywink:). I'm sad to let it go.... most likely I keep it in bank to take it out for RP.

Don't worry - in T7 you'll either look fabulous or like a drugged up hippie dressed you ;p
