View Full Version : What 90% of you FAIL to realize about Warlocks, and WHY they need help!

Its not about "GREAT" DPS that causes our agro.You see, take for example:  3 mobs are pulled.Tank has generally 1 (maybe 2) long re-cast AOE Taunts.. Perfect right? 3 mobs, all on the tank, with ohh..say.. 2000 hate on all of them towards the MT.Now, everyone nails the MT's target, pounding away... MT is taunting and hitting. Great, right?Now we (warlocks) cast..ohhh..say.. Apocolypse or Absolution (First hits for ~5k, 2nd hits for ~3k [Max damage in both examples, but not uncommon]).The other >2< mobs, which are NOT being hit, now have (example I know) 8k HATE towards the Warlock, and only 2k towards the MT.What happens? The other 2 mobs attack (and either kill or cause the healers/mt to change targets to save the us) the poor paper wearing warlock.Now, this wouldn't be so bad if ALL the mobs hate went towards the MT, etc.. but the REALITY is, the group-encounter taunts are slow, long recast, and not used "often", and in many cases (SK and Monk as an example) simply don't have it, don't have but 1 of them, and/or have a LOOONG recast.So, 2 things happen: We either pull agro and hope the group/raid will save us, OR, we drop our DPS by NOT casting any AOE's.Now-- you say, well.. DON'T CAST your stupid AOE's you warlock NOOB! Right? WRONG!You see, without using AOE's, we have 3 miniscule dots, which hits for practicly nothing, and 3 DD's (one of which has a 45 sec recast, the 2nd, has a 12 sec recast, and the 3rd with a 4 second recast).  Those are:  distortion (45 sec recast, max damage of ~3k @ lvl 70), Thwart (12 sec recast, max damage of ~1.5k @ Lvl 70), and Soul Flay (4 sec recast, max damage of ~1.2k).So, in 1 minute (NOT using the AOE's, and assuming we hit for MAX DAMAGE (yeah right!)):Thats:15 casts of Soul Flay.  18000 damage5 Casts of Thwart 7500 damage1 cast of Distortion 300 damageOr, 430 DPS.This is at Level 70, and assuming we hit for MAXIMUM DAMAGE on EACH CAST.And why? Because we can't use the AOE's or we DIE because the mobs won't stay on the MT.  WHY? Because they don't have any HATE and with just a FEW (1 or 2) casts, our hate > MT's Hate because, again, those other non-primary mobs aren't building hate against anyone but the WARLOCK.And...THAT's why we need fixing.  (Without any other complaints like utility and recast timers, etc...yadda yadda).-- Coz<div></div>

I should add-- Apocolypse and Absolution (In the 5k/3k first example): Hits ALL Mobs in the encounter, its an AOE.  My mistake for assuming everyone would know that.And the damage (8k) was taken by all 3 mobs.. hence why the other 2 mobs (not the main targets) switch to the warlock.<div></div>

<div></div><p>Coz,</p><p>This is where zerkers come in. Warlocks work really well with a zerker tank, especially for clearing areas like PPR that have a ton of grouped trash mobs. Zerkers maintain a ton of AE aggro and allow other AE classes to perform optimally. Try getting with a zerker in your guild and see if you still have the same problems.</p>

<div>No offense but a paladin can hold agro better then a zerker if he has amends up on a high agro class  (if your doing groups the a warlock is your best friend ) Berserkers have great AE capability but it cant compare to Amends on consistancy ( Insolent Gibe,Destruction and Open Wounds are on 3 min reuse, so they arent consistent)</div><div> </div><div>and yes i have a T7 berserker who i retired for my warlock ( guild had too many tank types ) so i know what im talking about when it comes to zerkers ....</div><div> </div><div>Warlocks need some type of passive deagro ( besides the 10% hate reduction at rank 8 the AA line gives ROFLMAO ) , We have ALOT of ineffective spell lines)</div>
