View Full Version : Pet name on two lines is BAD

The pet name being on two lines (with owner in the purpose tag) sure does look nice, but it can't show just the pet's name in the logs and combat text. It makes it nearly impossible to parse correctly, especially when there are multiple pet classes in a group. Please put the logged names back how they were, but leave the display the new way!<div></div>
Ditto. However, a temporary workaround: name your pet the same as your name, it'll just parse under you.<div></div>

Oh no... you can't crunch numbers you don't really need to know about anyway. No more [Removed for Content] waving around to prove whose "better".<div></div>

We may not NEED to know the numbers, but they do help. You don't NEED to know your Int, Wis, Sta, etc. stats, but it helps. You don't NEED to know your DPS mods and Haste, but it helps.Being able to parse my information in real-time allows me to see what's effective and what's not in raids, what amount of damage I can do in how short a time before getting aggro, etc. If you see it right that we shouldn't get this ability back, I think you shouldn't get to see what stats are on your equiptment.<div></div>

Hah! Don't make that threat to me, because I would welcome such a game. No stats, no numbers, no bullcrap [Removed for Content] waving. It'd be all about the quests and stories in the game and the challenge and fun of beating difficult encounters without relying on parses and numbers to guide you.<div></div>

Well you have fun making that game... but leave the rest of us here to enjoy ours <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I'm sorry that you feel numbers harm your gameplay, but the majority of us don't feel the same way.<div></div>

Yes, numbers ruin my enjoyment of the genre because instead of focusing on the character advancement and story, people become obsessed with inflating their ego and e-wangs. Numbers are just a distraction from what should be the real focus of an RPG. Since we have all these fancy computers to do these calculations, we should rely less and less on numbers, yet increasingly morons are attracted to bigger and better numbers. It's completely counterintuitive to creating a backstory for your character and advancing them through a series of quests and stories. Of experiencing those quests and stories.*shrugs* If there was a game like that... I'd jump ship in a heartbeat. Since there isn't, I make do with what there is and whine about it on places like this. =)<div></div>

The ease with which people can parse a log file and paste it into group chat makes it disturbingly common. These people in turn force their playstyle of adhering to strict rules to do your best dps all the time 100% of the time on to me and others in the group. If we aren't doing our best, we get labeled as inferior and it further limits our ability to group. This is a game. It's meant to be fun. Sweating over parses each and every combat is not my idea of fun. There are moments where I'm in tells with someone or chatting about something in guild/crafters and I'm not putting out my best dps. The parses show this and give people the wrong idea.I hate number freaks and prefer not to group with them, but I'm not always able to pick and choose who I group with... so I compromise my playstyle so I can progress through the game because other people want to enforce their playstyle on to me.</blockquote></span><div></div>

<div></div><p>Okay SiniperKity, you are obviously a roleplayer how's this sound...</p><p>in a roleplaying sense, there is gunna be better gear and better weapons out there. Maybe it was crafted by a better crafter, or magically enchanted so that it is AMAZING... wouldn't you want to know, in some way, that said piece of gear is AMAZING the way it is... and wouldn't you want other people to know, when you were roleplaying, that you were wearing this AMAZING piece of gear? or would you rather this AMAZING piece of gear seam the exact same in every way as the stuff you pulled off the dead body of some orc in the commonlands?</p><p>Stats are a realy easy way to show this AMAZINGness... wouldn't you aggree?</p>

<div><span><blockquote><hr>Jai1 wrote:<div></div>I think what will happen is that they will fix the parsers.<hr></blockquote>The parsers can't tell the difference between a player named Konarn and a pet named Konarn. The logs do not allow for any differentiation between a player character and a pet after this change.</span></div>

i use advanced combat tracker to do my parsing. currently, with the change to pet names two things can happen:1. the pet name is different then the owners name, which is the usual situation. Pets show up as 'players' in the list and their damage and dps can be added to that of their owner manually.2. pets have the same name as their owner (i myself do this and when parsing i ask groupmates to adjust their petnames to). the parser now sees no difference between the pets and their owners and counts pet damage towards their owner giving you the same you would've gotten before. So although parsing pets is broken, you can work around it (although i must say i prefer to see my pets have actual names, especially now that we can name the dumbfires).<div></div>

this just messes with me on my tracking window.i seach by alphabeticle. so when people have such names. it shows on the top of my list.. and i run over to them to find its a pet. not a unique mob<div></div>

This definitely needs to be changed to show the full name and owner etc in track and chat, very poor show from SoE to not consider this before changing it <span>:smileymad:</span><div></div>

Ok....This is what I hatem about parsers ok? The parser freaks that don't just want to know the numbers but paste them into the group channel and start ordering people about and tell them to get their acts together. This is especially annoying for Defilers as warding doesn't show up on parsers. We wouldn't mind if you kept it to yourselves, but you just can't, can you? You've got to parser-bash us all.<div></div>

I bet that if they didnt have the parsers they'd find other reasons to order people around and tell you how to do your stuff. Personally i like to use the parsers to figure out how to cast most effectively myself and figure out how much damage spells like the fury's ring of fire and the necro's stench of the grave do.</span></div>

I used to run Combat Stats, and only pasted when people asked me to. Now I run Advanced Combat Tracker on another computer (laptop) over the network and don't even have it copy the stats to the clipboard. As for healers and warders, pretty much everyone who uses a parser knows that heals don't usually show up. Hey look the Templar did 25 damage. That's good, actually, it means they're healing. Templar != Wizzie.<div></div>

I like the way it is now with the petname at the top then its description below it. Having it all on one long line just didnt look good to me. As someone above suggested there is a work around if you must crunch the numbers.<div></div>

You have the option of turning NPC tracking off and narrow down what you see on the list. It is not like we are naming our pets "an Orc Spiritist". Tracking is suppose to be used to find something you are looking for so I am not sure why you feel that you are chasing down named pets now.<div></div>
