View Full Version : What does YOUR racial mentor give you?

<div>Us Dwarves get a really sweet neck item that compliments anything other than a pure caster class, AND the item also has a heal-over-time spell worked into it that's set on a 10 minute re-use timer. For the level it's quite powerful (18 hit points every 5 seconds for 20 seconds) though I suspect it will not grow with the character.</div><div> </div><div>It's got me wondering if this is not the same across the board then or if perhaps other races are offering something different for their mentoring quests. So if you did get something different, what was it and what race are you?  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<div>High elves used to get a 10 slot bag (pretty sure, either that or my memory is going.... what was I saying? :smileytongue: ). But after 19c they only get a 5 slot bag. Can someone confirm that it used to be a 10 slot bag? If so I dunno why they changed it, after all it's not like having more inventory space makes the game unbalanced.... "Ha! Mr orange gnoll, take a whallop from my 10 slot bag full of rocks!". Anyway after that we get a plant to put in our houses.... Just what we need, more knick knacks..... I want that thing the dwarves get with the health regen even though I'm a fury on test it's still awesome, and every little bit of healing helps...</div><div> </div>

<div></div><p>Yes all race quest lines gave a 10 slot bag and they have all been scaled back to a 5 slot bag. This is to bring them in line with the fact that you get a 12slot for free, a 12 slot (on 3 chars) for 1 day veteran award, a 5 slot bag on the newbie island, and a horde of 4 slot bags from city 'fed-ex' quests. Having the racial bags as 10-slot was a bit overkill and takes away a usefulness for low-end tailoring bags (the t1 rare at pristine is only like 7 slots).</p><p>Also most (but not all) races get a house item as one of their quest rewards and they all get at least one piece of jewelry, often with some proc. I believe they all get some food items as well that have a racial tie to them.</p><p>All races also give a "Welcome to..." book when they get near the end of the racial quest line. These are 2nd edition and have a slightly different quest path then the 1st editions you got for citizenship and can be placed in your home right away. In Qeynos they removed Vhalen's Tower from the list of places to visit. For both versions the last step is to visit NQ (for Qeynos) or WFP (for Freeport) to see the statue of the city ruler rather than re-reading the book for the 'final page'.</p><p>A few things I recall offhand from quests:</p><p>Qeynos Kerra: a mushroom house item, 5 slot bag, Welcome to Qeynos, a necklace with stats and a heal proc.High Elf: a bush house item, 5 slot bag, Welcome to Qeynos (I assume its been added, wasn't there in 19a when I did mine)Wood Elf: a flower house item</p><p>All races on Qeynos side also get a book for their home if they do the main island quest line that covers the island's lore and where to find all the island NPCs. Its given on the second or so quest and replaces the old 'visit these spots' quests and points out the merchants and all the trainer NPCs.</p><p>THe tradeskill NPC on the island goes into a bit more detail about crafting (and tells you about the instance by him now instead of saying 'once you get to Qeynos/Freeport') and gives you the note to do the 'Seeking a Profession' crafting quest series.</p>

<div></div><div>The racial mentors should all be giving comparable items through their quests. A 5 slot bag, food/drink item, and the equipable racial specific item. The Frogloks, Ogres, and Qeynos Humans may still be giving a 10 slot bag on Test, but this has been resolved, and will be 5 slot when these changes go live. The welcome to Freeport/Qeynos books have been adjusted to be rewarded as part of the house buying process, instead of by the racial mentors, so you may notice that change, too.</div><div> </div><div>Thank you all for your continued feedback!</div><div> </div><div>~Kaitheel</div><div>EQ2 Dev Apprentice</div>

<div></div><p>The racial quests are the chain from your 'race mentor' in your starting village. I am pretty sure I got a 5 slot bag with my human in Qeynos. Each mentor gives about 3-6 quests. Sometimes they send you to another NPC to get a quest in the chain but in the same village, and some send you to an adventure yard NPC for 1-2 last quests before you get referred to the Qeynos guard for the adventure yard associated with your home village. While I didn't track the rewards for each race I did make a list of each quest for each race. This will be long as there's over 20 racial quest lines (since some races can be good/evil). Also trolls get a second line of quests and I hope they add a second for the other races as well.</p><p>Formatting is: Quest Name - NPC - Notes (zone other than starting village, referral quest to the adventure yard faction questgiver)</p><p>I'll post them here in two posts, one for Qeynos races, one for Freeport races.</p>

For those of us who betrayed, will we be able to sneak back into the other city to do the quests, if we avoid the guards?<div></div>

Sritt
01-30-2006, 07:14 AM
<div></div>It may be possible to do them, but not likely as pretty much all of them involve you going to the gates of the village right near teh guards to get updates on at least one quest. Also at least for Nettleville there's a guard pretty much always near the mentors. Then there's the fact of whether the race mentor would even talk to you if you betrayed. This will only affect the races that aren't in both cities most likely. I'm assuming the race mentors for gnomes, half elves, humans, erudites, barbarians, and kerrans will talk to someone of that race who betrayed in the character's new city.

I agree with Putergod.  My main is also a betrayed character and I would like to have the option of doing these quests as well.  I feel that it is my right to be able to learn my race's history regardless of what city I chose to align myself with.  Especially considering the fact that the cities in this game are not the real home of any of the races except maybe Humans.  And since Humans are a neutral race it doesn't matter for them.  That's another thing, neutral races will have these quests available to them in both cities.  Only the certain classes that are forced to start out in a certain city and are forced to betray if they want to live in the opposite city are getting screwed over here.  That is not right.  Also, like it was already pointed out, these quests were not available at the time we high levels betrayed back in the day so we never had the option of doing them before we betrayed.  IMO the NPC's for these quests should not be located within the cities at all, rather they should be located outside somewhere where everyone has an chance to get at them regardless of their alignment.<div></div>

I don't mind them being in the cities, as long as I have the opportunity to sneak in, talk to the NPC (and him talk to me of course) and get the quest, and actually able to do it.

Don't think of it as chosing which city to align with. Think of it as you used to be evil, but are now good. Therefore an affront to everything Tier'Dal (or Trolls or Ogres, etc.) stand for. You betrayed your Race, not your city.

Moving to a new city does not, necessarily, make my character "good". His actions in game would not be conceived as "good". He left Freeport because the overlord seemed to think he was his "other word for female dog" and my DE wasn't going to bow to any "man". He views the queen as weak, and therefore unable to control him in any way. She is a pushover and has not the ability to stop him from taking over the city. Neriak is his home, and, if ever rebuilt, is where he will ultimately be. If he must live amongst the pathetic humans, then he will do so in the city whose "ruler" is weak, and can be molded to do his bidding. Also, because he betrayed some pathetic human that was on a power trip does not mean he betrayed his race, as Freeport is not the home of the Teir'Dal, Neriak is.

Do any races get a reward nearly as good as the wood elf reward? o.O I'm a wood elf and I've seen some of the other rewards and I'm like "Wow you got jipped" wood elves get a neck piece that's 2 agility 2 5 health and uh a save I think but it's worn effect is giving +4.9 to all stats! which essentially makes it a 6.9 agility, 6.9 wisdom 4.9 everything else neck piece at level 4! Any other races get something this good?<div></div>

<div></div><p>Wood elves is 3.9, Half Elves is 4.9</p><p>IMHO, this is a vastly overpowered item for lvl 4.  We are talking about nearly 24 stat points on an earring that you can get at lvl 4....</p><p> </p><p>Also - maybe wearing an illusion should trick the Mentor into giving you the quest as well....</p>

Wood elves were  4.9 up until today. Half-elves might have been changed to 3.9 too. It's overpowered yes o.o but I'm not complaining. I'll happily say that it's sweet that I got that item and it rocks to be a wood elf ^_^ or a half-elf apparantly. I have a half-elf swashy that will get it soon that'll be cool. Looking forward to it =P Wish the other races didn't get such sucky rewards by comparison but ah well...<div></div>

<div></div>I just checked these on Grobb - both Wood elf and Half Elf have permananet buff of 4.9 to all stats in addition to the stat boosts posted.  Wood Elf is a necklace item, Half-elf is an earring.  Works better like this IMHO as the Lost Travelr's Earring is a +6 Agi item - perfect if your going woody Ranger... I managed to break 50 agi before leaving Queen's Colony at lvl 7.

Runewind
02-10-2006, 02:10 AM
Eh it would be better if it was +6 str. Str is much more important than agility to rangers (it's our damage). Just a little tip ^_^ but it is good if you're going Woody Bard.<div></div>

<div>Well - heh - would you like the stats on Lost Traveler's gear?  By all means - allow me  : )</div><div> </div><div>Belt - +6 Int All</div><div>Bracelet - +6 Wis all (not lore)</div><div>Ring - +6 STR all (not lore)</div><div>Earring - +6 Agi all</div><div>STA - honestly i forget - but i THINK it is Necklace - +6 STA all</div><div> </div><div>These nice little doodads can be found on almost any type of mob on the island - they are rare drop items and come in a plain brown package, er, medium wood box...</div><div> </div><div>I have played and re-played the newbie experience about 50 times now - doing different kinds of tests etc.</div><div> </div><div>You can do the Island instance over and over - it drops no-trade/no value gear in there so that you dont really benefit from it except XP - but it drives you back over and over if you are trying to get Vith's necklace - again, sorry - i forgot the exact stats - but it is a very nice necklace for that level.</div><div> </div><div>My play on the island pretty much dictates run the instance untill I get the necklace if not playing a wood elf and getting the necklace - then running the Guurok event until I get the weapons upgrades there.  If I AM playing the wood elf, I run the cave instance once, but kill the pupeteer until I get it's boots, then run Guurok until I get the weapon upgrade.</div>

<div></div><p>Fully tradeable.  in fact, I have seen a few times where a meleer with a int belt will spam QC looking for rings/earrings/necklace etc.</p><p>Farm has a peculiar meaning here though.  I DID say they are a rare drop.  I have gotten two items (bracelet and a ring) within 5 minutes of each other.  Then again, I have gone days without any as well.  Today I was CERTAIN they had been removed until I got an earring - and someone handed me a bracelet for a few templar books I had - all within about 5 minutes of each other.  They are still in game - the latest QC run through is alive and well on Grobb at the moment - will prolly delete soon.</p>
