View Full Version : Pirate Skulls

Folks,

Last night while I was killing skeles on the isle I noticed skulls that could be harvested. So I harvested some and when I examined them I was asked if I wanted to set them on the ground. If I did, they crumbled. I asked around and no one knew exatly what they were for but if you had 5 skulls and stood on the rock near the named blob that is not attackable, it would his at you. So I went there and sure enough it did hiss. On a hunch I set a skull down and I got the message that the blob ATE the skull. I then began setting the skulls down one after the other and after the 5th one the blob became attackable. However, the blob is a TRIPLE UP Level 6 mob!!!!

So, get a few friends together and collect 5 skulls and have fun. I hope to find some that will hunt this thing for me since it was the only thing to date to kill me!!!

Good hunting.

Hmmm wonder what the version is on the Freeport side (or is the blob on both sides). Guess this answers the whole "I added a heroic encounter that you have to trigger to fight" question heh.

There's a book you can read up in the Last Stand (treehouse) that explained all this - with a bit of a goblish twist. But yes, that's how you get the heroic to go active.

Except that it takes 6 skulls, not 5. Easy to remember, as the skulls will only stack to 6.

Before the servers went down..I saw "The Great Hawk" flying over the freeport island. Just need to figure out the right bait to get him to come down and fight.

It is often seen above the Valley of Discipline, but has never been aggressive to this date. If we could only lure down this giant hawk, we may have a chance at taming it. With an ally of this size we could turn the tables on almost any adversary.

Our theory is to lure down the hawk using a large amount of bait. Nothing small will even tempt this goliath. We must gather the larger mole rats on the island, at least six of them. Although they are hard to spot, we'll look for their cone-shaped burrows. But how will we lure the large molerats out themselves?

Maybe we could mimic the sound of their offspring somehow near the burrows? In any case, we need to tame this great hawk if we are to stand a chance against the ever-increasing evil on the island.

Read it yesterday; post 19c if it mattters. Interesting it refers to the "ever-increasing evil" as if it were a bad thing.

edit: spelling and formatting

Message Edited by Shmogg on 01-27-200609:57 PM

Heh sounds like a second use for the mole rats you get for the luring down the hawks quest. Use them near the burrows to lure out the big ones, gather the big ones and lure down the hawk heroic.

It remained attackable (and aggro) but out of reach of my cheap store-bought bow's 25m range. And re-luring didn't work, either. Had to leave after about half an hour so I hope it's in range of someone's spell or a better bow. Otherwise it needs to de-spawn or something.

I'll look at re-luring. I checked it before and it was working. The large molerats despawn after 60 seconds, and all 6 need to be up before this time. Maybe they had started despawning? I'll set them to two minutes to help this out to see if that helps.

I checked my log. Looks like it took less than 30 seconds to do it. Few other things. I was chasing after the Hawk as I dropped rats since it was orbiting a fair sized circle. No idea of how close you need to be so that could be a factor. I did get the "Great Hawk appears to notice you" a bit before I dropped the bait. I tried to shoot it again and then stopped shooting and started dropping rats. I'm pretty sure I got a different screen message (something about running away) when re-luring than I did with the initial luring. Anyway, here's the log if it helps:

(1138467244)[Sat Jan 28 11:54:04 2006] The Great Hawk above appears to notice you.(1138467250)[Sat Jan 28 11:54:10 2006] The Great Hawk above appears to notice you.(1138467272)[Sat Jan 28 11:54:32 2006] aNPC 1828736 Falconer Lithkeen:Falconer Lithkeen/a says, "To the sky!"(1138467286)[Sat Jan 28 11:54:46 2006] aNPC 1828736 Falconer Lithkeen:Falconer Lithkeen/a says, "Good boy, Dasher!"(113846728[Sat Jan 28 11:54:48 2006] aNPC 1828736 Falconer Lithkeen:Falconer Lithkeen/a says, "Good girl, Swift!"(1138467317)[Sat Jan 28 11:55:17 2006] You start fighting.(113846731[Sat Jan 28 11:55:18 2006] You cannot see your target.(113846731[Sat Jan 28 11:55:18 2006] Your target is too far away! I'll need to get my next character up a bit since it's pretty hard to run around placing mole rats if you're aggroing all those Tunarians!

I hate back-to-back posting but I'm not sure an edit will flag this as new for you.

Anyway, I leveled a Coercer to 6, gathered a dozen large mole rats and sent the poor rat to suicide against the Great Hawk. No problem luring or re-luring. Both times (on all 12 large mole rats) I got the message "The large mole rat seems scared and freezes". Nothing about running away as I did the other day.

Well, I am going to add this as an edit :smileywink:

After a bit of further testing I am now convinced that there is nothing wrong with the code, arathym. I played around a little with releasing the large mole rats and believe I had the wrong idea about luring. Seems it's not about being under the hawk but being on the hill and when I was chasing after the hawk I wasn't in the right place. The despawning tested at 2 min, but I honestly believe 60 was plenty. Even taking screen shots, chasing the hawk, and generally taking my time it only took 30 seconds or so to release them.

I do want to say that is one tough bird, though. Made a really nice pet. Killed a bunch of stuff and when charm broke at it around 5% health it turned around and took me out, too. I will kill this bird, lol.

Message Edited by Shmogg on 01-30-200605:11 PM

Back on the blob on Qeynos isle... I hadn't read this thread, but I noticed the goblin book, grabbed 6 skulls, and ran over to drop them on the rok and feed the blob...

I was getting a little apprehensive as I placed each skull, cause the bloody thing kept getting BIGGER with each one... And I was all by my lonesome...

Finally, on the sixth skull, he respawned as an aggro level 6 ^ ^ ^... and kicked my little level 8 Froglok Mystic's booty. I grabbed an 8 and 5 Ranger, which was enough to take him down, and he dropped a very nice little item that actually had melee haste on it (earring, I think)... Of course, I declined on that, and one of the Rangers got it.

Overall, a very nice little addition to the isle, and I loved the way the Goblin book was worded

In regards the Great Hawk (L6 ^^^ Heroic), you must stand on Falconer Hill when you release the 6 large mole rats. I biffed on that one a few times. You'll know if you weren't because the rats will run as soon as you release them. I'm not sure if killing Falconer Lithkeen is necessary, but if you do you'll get the message that the great hawk takes notice of you.

On a related note... do the Large naked mole rats have to look like beagle pups in your inventory? :smileysad:
