View Full Version : Click on NPC initiates Default action
<div>I have noticed that clicking on an NPC executes the default action of the NPC.</div><div> </div><div>Just left click on a Merchant and selling window opens. Left click on a NPC with a quest and the you get dialog boxes. So Left click = Double click on Live.</div><div> </div><div>Well, in Enchanted Lands and Rivervale, many NPCs have a default action of Attack if you double click on them. <div></div>Well, EL is a long run at 10, but I will see if I can make it tomorrow and test it. I liked it the way it was on live though. :p

<div></div>Also this isn't new behavior, its been there since DoF went live as I recall. WHat may have changed is the default setting for the left-click. I believe its default to 'default action' rather than 'default except for attack'. This only affects test for the first new character though, after that the options stay the same for all characters, so if you have it set to 'default except for attack' on live it should remain that way.

<div>It's on option, you can change it to double-click for the action too. It's also not unique to test my chars on live use it as well.</div>
As noted, it's an option. Don't like it? Turn it off...<div></div>

Just on live the defautl setting is for it to 'do nothing'. YOu have to go into options and change it. On tes the default was set to 'default action' for left click. THere's an option in the for 'default action except attack' (which I think should be the default setting). This is only showing up for people on test where its you're first character so the options are all set to defaults. On live it didn't change behavoir for existing accounts (the options are shared with all characters) unless you restored default settings. Log onto live and check here: Options->Controls->Mouse Settings. The third option down is a drop down box. The text on the left is "Use Double Click or Single Click to Select Object and take Default Action". THe drop down on the right has the following choices: Double-Click, Single-Click, Single Click Except Attack</p><p>And to doubly make sure right under it is a check box for "Enable Attack as a Default Action through Mouse Double Click or Single" (should say click but the text cuts off).</p><p>This is the same on live and test.</p>

It's amazing how WoW managed to invent so many things that appear in games, much older than it. Like starting as the class you want to be (amazing how pretty much the first games that had class choices let you do that, I bet those developers made a time machines just so they could steal that from WoW), crafting without spending 5 minutes an item making little subcombines for it (which is pretty much the standard MMO crafting system), and now clicking on things.</p><p>Next thing you know EQ2 is going to steal the idea of a bunch of players forming some sort of "alliance" or "group" to become better able to take down harder foes by working together.</p>

And just so everyone knows... this option has been in the game since release (And i'm guessing beta, but i wasn't in it). I've been using it since i started the game.<div></div>
One thing I'd like to point out is, with the new default setting (which I never used before because I hated it, so I don't know if this is a new bug...), you can not double click on dead space to clear your target window. You have to set it back to double click in order to do this.<div></div>

<div>This could be very bad for times when groups have to coordinate hailing quest NPCs <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<div></div><p>Just change your setting if you're worried. Its not a fixed behavoir. Also the setting shouldn't change on live, it'll stay how you have it currently.</p><p>As for hailing NPC's I use the single click for default and timed hailing works fine, I just click the NPC on 3 while other's hit the H key or right-click and choose hail.</p><p>I usually clear targetting by hitting the 'escape' key myself, or could always just put my mouse over empty space and hit 'f' (which is the default mapping for the 'take default action for what's under the mouse cursor').</p>
<div>Ok, I got home from work and ran over to ELs. Not only was I the only 10th lvl player there, i was the only player there. I should have checked if Chomper was up. :p</div><div> </div><div>Anyone the single left click does not attack those NPCs with the red cross, so I am happy about that. I would change the option back though, I dont like the single left click functionality. <img src="/smilies/1cfd6e2a9a2c0cf8e74b49b35e2e46c7.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

Also if you don't have it set that way on live it shouldn't change your settings when LU19 comes out. Its just the default setting for new players (or when someone resets to default). It was set as the default because a lot of people asked for it and prefer it. Like most new game mechanics though it is an optional one and can be altered by the player to fit their taste.</p><p>On a side note I noticed that on test the options now says "Alternate appearances" rather than "SOGA models" heh.</p>
