We're planning on a change that will smooth out the progress of skill gain at low levels. Is there anyone that can provide feedback on their higher level characters skill gain rates and if their skill amounts changed as a result of the 1-19 subclass revamp?

Everyone on Test seemed to have lost a bunch of skill points last night. My 55 Assassin lost 50 - 70 points in each of her combat and utility skills. I thought I'd go re-level a bunch of them by wailing on greys. So I went to the Feerrott and unequipped my weapons -- because an Assassin killing greys, with legendary weapons, can't really level points as they drop too fast, hehe.So I was in the Feer boxing Huuptic things on the beach. I pulled 5, 6 at a time and just hit them on auto-attack, with my fists. After clearing the entire beach, both sides, twice, I'd leveled 3 points of defense. I gave up -- it was way too slow. Even with most of my buffs turned off and nearly all of my armor taken off I still couldn't gain points at anything resembling a reasonable pace. (And re-leveling 40 points of Disarm is going to be a real slog.) I'll try throwing myself off the carpet a bunch tonight to see if Safe Fall goes back where it was, hehe.My 20 Fury lost 100 points in some of her skills -- she was at Ordination 3/103 when I logged on last night. That seemed to level more quickly than any of the skill points on the 55 Assassin, though. I got her Ordination up to 8 or 9 in the few minutes I had her logged in on Nek beach.(Thankfully, tradeskill points seem unaffected. Time to get the cook back in the kitchen!)

[Edited to correct absolutely abysmal feats of 2nd grade math. I swear, they really did teach me addition and subtraction along the way...]
Message Edited by EtoilePB on 01-13-200611:55 PM

In reference to Tradeskills specifcally, we have a small discrepancy when it comes to skill point gains:

Levels 3-50 your skill cap for any given skill raises 1 point per 20% of a level, for a total of 5 points per level.

But Levels 51-60 your skill cap for any given skill raises 5 points all at the beginning of the level.

I like the 1 per 20% myself, but I'd be happy with consistancy

In a word: catastrophic. All my skills across many classes have had significant drops in skills. If it was just defense and slashing it wouldn't be bad, but do you know how much work it takes for a shadowknight to bring Ordination up from 3? A swashbuckler with Disarm trap from 2?You really have to give us back our skills at least a similar level prior to the change. It is Test, and we appreciate things sometimes get a bit messed up, but the skill loss is very bad indeed. You certainly would not be able to do this in live without enormous uproar.

I know you asked about higher level characters, but as I dont have any on test, I cant comment on that. However the little dirge I made was gaining points extremely slowly, and fights were lasting a while as a lot of my hits were parried, so fights were lasting longer than previous new chars I created pre this update, but gaining skills a lot slower.

I had an already created priest on test. Whwn i logged in I chose mystic as my class and i wa sgiven the appropriate gear including a 1h spear(piercing skill) however I didnt not have Piercing listed under my skills(L) only crushing. Needless to say I was doing like 1pt dmg and couldnt raise my piercing skill because i didnt have it,Not sure if a mystic newly created has the same issue

Catastrophic's about right. A friend and I ended up just playing around with his badger illusion and then rolled various newbie toons all night because we knew better than to actually try to go out and fight with our skills all slashed up. Even if we could've killed anything our level, the traps I'd be triggering trying to disarm chests would've finished us off.Skill progression across the board now seems more sluggish than smooth. Folks on the islands were getting spanked by blue cons because they couldn't hit anything, and because they couldn't hit anything, their offensive skills weren't going up. The sparring partners are very nice for remedying this at lower levels, but most people aren't aware of them, and certainly weren't expecting to find themselves so weak. Maybe a big neon sign would help. Please let us know if skill reductions for existing higher level characters are going to stay. It'd be nice to know if we should wait for a fix, or go ahead and start grinding those skills back up.

Message Edited by WeaselWorld on 01-13-200604:04 PM

my 26 monk went from maxed defense/crushing to both of them being in the 30's. They did raise farily quickly, but loosing 20 levls worth of skill is not fun.

Casting skills are also newbie level...and these are HARD to raise. My wifes warden was trying to get ministration back up by chain healing herself...then gave up.

It took us an hour or so to get defense/offense/focus back to almost maxed. I really dont want to have to do that on every character I play.

Also, harvesting skills below a certain value were reduced to 0. (Two of mine were on a character I dont harvest with..two of his skills are zero, so he cannot harvest anywhere).

The problem with new players leveling faster than their skills is only going to get worse. We've still got discovery xp and additional quests coming. Leveling is going to get even faster.

I wonder if it would be better to have all offensive and defensive skills increase automatically every 20% per level until level 5. Players just go through those levels to fast to keep their skills up.

Must agree, it is extremely slow. I don't have high levels, just a couple just around 20 and some much lower ones (2-, but my poor berserker and ranger (the higher 2) skills got completely wiped out. Everything back down to IoR levels. And terribly slow to raise them back up.

My newbie priest who was created well before this update, missed getting the slashing skill when I turned her into a warden. Needless to say, I can't touch anything with the nifty scimtar the game gave me and I'm continuing to use the old IoR scepter instead.

Just a thought.. what would happen if you took a character with zero skill in a harvestable after this, and boughtone of the harvesting aids. ie. a mining pick for mining with +1-5 or what ever it is to mining on it. would that be enough to raise it to a positive level so you can keep advancing?

The harvesting tool trick works, or so I have been told. I'm not sure if any are available on the island.
