Yes. I want a boat. I want to buy one. I want to name it. I want to make my own flag. I want to sail it accross norraths 7... I wanna be attacked by pirates or fish or mermaids! I want to navigate in thunderstorms or sunny weather.

And if I crash my boat, I want to get a carpenter to fix it. Honestly that sounds like alot of fun. Wonder if it would be tedious after a while though . Alas, we will probably never know. Its a great idea I think though.

I'd love a boat -- especially considering if you want to find solo mobs that are 57-59 you gotta get wet in PoF.

aye a boat sounds good would be nice to saill it around the oceans and to have a different way of transportation. i wonder.... would that come with the official pirate keyboard?

I've been also patiently waiting for boats to make a true appearence in EQ2. I choose my class way back on day 1 because I thought player manned boats were in the game. There are so many things the devs can do with boats to keep them interesting and rewarding. I envision an owner of a boat (boats would have to be very expensive, cheaper ones would be less durable and more prone to damage) and his/her crew that have specific roles to guide and battle with their ship. I don't think the oceans will ever open up between existing islands, but I can envision one massive ocean zone dotted with islands, ports, etc.

Its time to start thinking outside of the box SOE. Reinvent the gameplay for mmorpgs, give us more options other than a new tier of bashing mobs on the head until we get a master. The more different ways to play an mmorpg, the funner it gets.

ooo that reminds me, maybe they can make a whole expansion pack just an ocean, small islands, pirates, hidden treasures and the whole shazam!

That would be awsome!

Aye. The next expansion pack needs to open up all that lost space and make the world feel huge. I should be able to zone out from the ocean in Antonica and zone into the ocean in Pillars of Flame is I wanted too.

Now, this I would love to see. You know they have space combat in SwG, so why can't they just change the name of abilities and what not, make it so you don't move in the third dimension, only on the X and Y plane...and make it a sea? I know, it would take time and it prob sounds ALOT easier then it is, but it really wouldn't be too hard. I for one, would be saving the plat to get a boat so I could find the treasure, loot boats and have all out sea battles.

better yet you loot parts of the boat to make them like a collection :smileytongue:

Here is an idea. Use what you said earlier about having zones in the ocean to travel by boat, but also make boats like houses. Buy them with and without status points. Be able to sell from them when you have it docked in either Freeport or Qeynos. I know we can't have 50,000 boats sitting in the docks, so use a bell for all the boats docked there. There is a dock for all the islands so you could park it there. Please let us be able to drive them as well. No set pathing please. You could be able to buy boats in any size. Ranging from a row boat to a giant pirate ship. Have the more expensive ships move faster. Like you said, this would open up a whole new edge to MMORPG. This could be a big seller if you made an expansion pack for it. From what I read the next one is Kingdom of the Sky, this one could be Voyage of the Seas. I know there are a lot of variables to consider when making something like this. It hasn't been done on a scale this big yet. The last game that I remember that had this was Ultama Online and that is in 2D graphics. That is why this could be another advantage to playing EQ2 over other online games such as World of Warcraft.

PS. I like your idea about boats taking damage, but in the end that will cause more problems and then benefits. It would be like our horses getting killed or beat up in battle.

Hell Yes. This is an expansion idea I would shell out for, and one I'm seriously looking at Vanguard for having. Still though, I'm not sure how you could integrate sailing into EQ2 to keep oceans from seeming out of place or irrelevant. Kweli L'Overture, 58 Troubador, Lavastorm

I wanna be a scourge of the seas Seriously, it's a brilliant idea. I'd like to see SOE take this game in entirely new directions eventually, and this would be well worth an expansion. Maybe make it so that you can assemble a crew of players for the bigger boats and have raids based entirely on ship-combat. Maybe even make a seperate leveling system for the crewmembers, giving them more bonuses to navigating and battling on the ship. The possibilities for this are endless Shiver me timbers and yarr.

the idea's here (player manned ships, boats act like houses to, multiple persons on one ship) sound a lot like the jump to lightspeed expansion from SWG, which was a lot of fun there you could fly spaceships and at higher piloting levels multi-person ships through space, fighting off enemie fighters who sometimes left useable parts which you could use to upgrade your own ship or sell.

Playing those two should calm your salty sea dog blood a bit. =)

Boat PVP? Yuck, thats a different genre of game that I dont see Sony adding into EQ2. I mean really, little gnome pirates swinging from the ropes? LOL More like cannon ammo really. And when Sony adds the underwater zones and such, might be safe to say they will have a guild boat travel system like DAoC does for it's underwater zones. Wouldent hold your breath on customizing it though like in DAoC. We dont even have guild logos or armor/cloth dyes yet.

Yes different styled "ships" would be awesome from the lowly sandpan to the a Ship of the Line for either the Sea fury buccaneers or the Qeynos Royal Fleet,

Prices would be nominal to the size of the ship much like our Houses are now...

maybe even placing house items on them as well..

oh and having raiding parties board either by NPCs or PVP instances would be awesome...

Brigands and Swashies get a reduced price on all boats of course :smileyvery-happy:

Message Edited by Porkchop133 on 12-21-2005 09:21 PM
