View Full Version : Forced Chat Channel?

<div></div>- New level-based chat channels are now available to all players on each server regardless of their citizenship. You will automatically join the channel appropriate for your character's level range (according to whichever is higher of your adventure or crafting level). As your character levels up, you will automatically leave the old channel and move to a new one.<hr>This sounds great and all... but I wanted to make sure that this isn't something that players will be forced into without anyway to disable this. I don't want to be forced to talk or listen to other chat channels while in game. I play to relax and frankly, ooc can be enough chatter for me when I play. I sometimes am forced to turn that off as well as it can be annoying. Please give us the option to turn this off... and something better then leaving the channel everytime you gain a level. (That would be annoying too!) Maybe an check box in the chat options that says: "Do not automatically join me to chat channels"Thanks

If I am required to leave or turn off (or move to a different chat window I can shrink to nothing) a channel each time I level, I will be highly annoyed. I'm still trying to figure out what the purpose is of these proposed channels....</span> <div></div>

<DIV>I normally play on Runnyeye server (quiet) where grouping is tricky, so I will probably find it useful for shout outs server-wide for getting grps.....</DIV><p>Message Edited by Sjones1 on <span class=date_text>11-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>06:41 PM</span>

I would think you could turn these channels off (like all other channels in the chat options).

<span><blockquote><hr>Valdacil wrote:<div></div>I would think you could turn these channels off (like all other channels in the chat options).<hr></blockquote>Thats what I'm hoping. I can deal with having to leave the channel everytime I level if it's going to automatically rejoin me, but I thought it would be nice to suggest another alternative so that we didn't have to do that. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </span><div></div>

As for the LFG or other such, why not use the existing channels?  Why do we need yet another that we we have to quit out of every time we turn around?  I would -much- rather an Opt in system than an opt-out.  Have the channels there for those who can't figure out how to make new channels but don't force anyone to join them at any time.</span><div></div>

Even if it does force-join you, it would only do it every 10 levels, not every level. <div></div>

You can't shout server wide only zone wide. <div></div>

<DIV>maybe they can fix our channels getting renumbered before forcing us to get new ones that will end being a channel noone uses </DIV>

<DIV>I'm still trying to figure out what the purpose is of these proposed channels....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The purpose would be that it is a game created channel that touches both good and evil characters. It's the same reason many servers have a channel that was started as one things (Quest on Mistmoore, Heritage on another, etc) that turned into the channel where people congregated to speak to everyone. So they sell wares, ask for help, and just basically talk to more than just half the server at a time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Being reduced to only the tiers means it's mainly designed for communicating between folks that would normally do stuff together (grouping/questing together, and requesting services from each other, such as crafters selling their wares to the appropriate tier).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Something I'm curious about... will we have access to all the tiers at any time, just that we are automatically put into a particular tier once we reach it? Because I can see a lvl 39 wanting to group with a lvl 40... yet if we don't have access to the higher or lower tier then it ceases to be as useful as it could be. Personally, I could see myself being logged into at least two tiers at a time, unless I'm smack in the middle of a tier (say lvl 35). Even then, on low population days, you need to group with a spread greater than 5 levels. I mean, grouping mechanics allow it...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Basically, if these channels are to be used with any frequency, I'd expect that we'd need access to more than one at a time. Otherwise people will just resort to using the current accepted server-wide channel.</DIV>

I don't use any of the chat channels ingame with the exception of /say and /tell. All others are turned off. hopefully its default off. don't really have any use for more channels.

I do understand this would make them persistant channels which you have to password any created channels to get persistant which might be the only value of having these.. BUT with the availabilty of mentoring, wouldn't it be better, easier, to have persistant listed channels </span><span>(not limited to one side or the other) </span><span> for LFG and Heritage? I still do not see the value of having me forced into a channel at any time.  It's annoying enough to have to go through and make sure /ooc and /auction are off each time I create a new character or my interface gets reset for some odd reason (happened about a few weeks ago when I crashed while zoning and I hadn't a back up), but that's just once, not once a level or once every 10 levels.</span><div></div>
