This update has a lot of stuff I've been waiting for for ages, I'm very excited! Funny thing is, I only started reading up on SOGA models today, out of curiosity -- and then boom! There's a patch! The one thing that concerns me a little is this: ------------------------------ - You have the ability to select which race-gender combinations you would like to use the new models for in Options > SOGA Models. - Your choices determine which models you see on your screen. Other players will see your character in whichever model they have chosen to display. ------------------------------ It strikes me that it's no fun letting someone ELSE decide how they see me. I would have thought this owuld be like /showhood or /hide_illusion, and up to the player? Looking forward to playing around this weekend, though, should be some great stuff to test.

If you think you have any control over how people see you NOW, you are sorely mistaken. What did you choose yourself to look as? Oh, that's nice. To me you're a complete blob of faceless pixels. That's how you look to a lot of people. Should SOE take out the option for me to make you look like that? It's not how you WANT to be viewed, right? My choice doesn't matter, because it's what YOU want. DOWN WITH CHOICE! DOWN WITH OPTIONS!

However, that said, I also wish it was possible to customize both options so you have some control of the way you look in current and soga models. It isnt a game breaking issue for me because I realize that this is an option. I thank SOE for giving this variety.

Moorguard, Although I have no desire to use the SOGA dark elf female model, I would like to know if you will make available the appearance customization change utility for existing characters? Many people have existing characters they might want to reconfigure their appearance based on the SOGA models. Because right now, if you switch, your existing character appears stuck with whatever corresponding choices you made for your standard model. The combination might be unappealing. ~Eva

This was my main convern about the SOGA models. At least I can minimize the likelyhood of my Character looking like some angsty LinkinPark loving anime [Removed for Content], and too something that at least (hopefully) resembles what I want him too look like, when people use the SOGA models.

Personaly I will be using a few, depending what they look like on my machine and the animations associalted with them.

Dark elfs males (current ones look... how shall I saw hetrosexually impaired?)

Female Humans.
I seemed to have an issue with female soga models loading. I would go into a zone and the female soga models would dissapear. If I turned the soga models off then on again after zoning then I could see them. Also I couldnt see the female soga models at the character selection screen or in creation screens as they seemed to be invisible. The female soga models also had this stop in motion problem with their animations. /showhood is also having issues working as each time I zoned I had to redo it. On the soga models in the creation section I noticed that there are no streaks in the hair but rather instead the colors blend. This is kind of cool because I was able to make new colors by blending the two. Some of the custimizations didnt work though and some were very limited. The human and halfling males were really cute, all other models I prefered the old models. I noticed an issue with the soga models and when the characters were looking down as the neck or armor around the neck was cutting into the chins and jaw of the character. I saw several models wearing robe hoods that showed the hoods in wire frame with out the fabric skin.

The thing you are forgetting, my friend, is choice... Not everyone LIKES the SOGA models. Therefore, if they don't want to see the SOGA models and want to keep their current models they can. However, if you like your SOGA models, then by all means have them. However, it would be very disjointed if you walked into Qeynos Harbor and half of the people you saw were SOGA and the other half were original models. They wouldn't look like they belong to the same world, much less the same game.

My concern when they were first talking about the SOGA models though was that I saw what say my High Elf (for instance) that I spent time on getting to look just right was going to look like after they SOGA'ized him and thought "I don't want people seeing me looking like THAT!!!" However, even though my character will look fine to me, when you turn on your SOGA models he will look completely different. I like the idea of customizing the regular look AND the SOGA look so that when you toggle the models you have a customized character either way. That way even if you don't want to run w/ SOGA all the time (or regular) you can at least make sure you look right to those who do.

Message Edited by Valdacil on 10-27-2005 02:13 AM

The one thing I noticed about soga models is the stern looks and frowns. As a whole they all look very serious, angsty, [Removed for Content] off or down right depressed. It isn't even possible to make a barbarian male or highelf that does not have a periment scowl/frown on their face. I also noticed that some of the skin tones are real tough to work with. I haven't yet been able to get a nonsick looking male half-elf without giving him the tanned to ebony look. All the fair skinned skintones come out pale or greenish. Dunno if that is on purpose or not. Male halflings look like peterpan clones... I really want to get in and look at the females but since that is borken atm I can only look at the NPCs and already created PCs. There is something off about the human females but i can't put my finger on it yet. One thing I do like is the way that the hair base and highlights combine on the SOGA models. Gives a lot more variety in hair color and look. Though I will miss the two tone hairdos of the half elves. Along with their piercings. (They have scars now) I hope someone is going to take take on the monumental task of fiddling with the SOGA versions of the NPCs. Many of them look pretty bad right now and I've also encountered ones that look like twins standing next too or close to each other. Something tells me SOGA models are going to be on test for awhile.

Hello, from live server Grobb. There's just one thing I am anxious to know about concerning the HQs in this LU. Are the 6+ hour Billy camp fiestas (for GoTD HQ) a thing of the past? I'm going to make a fairly safe assumption and answer my own question by saying, "yes, Aera, you're right; it no longer takes several hours to coax the little doll out of hiding," but I'd like to know if someone can confirm it here. I can die a happy man if so On a side note, the SOGA models look great for the most part. I hope they will all get a few a facelifts before they go live, however.

Only one question: Where are the assassin fixes? Our offensive stance is a horrible joke, one of our main DoTs is nearly useless, Concealment has WAY too short a duration to really be useful. Zerker, bruiser, both summoners, all of whom are supposed to be below us in DPS tiers still embarass us. Wizard/warlock and ranger, who are supposed to be our peers leave us in their dust on 99.9% of DPS parsers. There's probably going to be a mass exodus of assassins fromt his game if something isn't done very soon. Get off your laurels and do something.

I think I tried a few others, but don't remember which (prob male human as I was in Nettleville). My display settings are a modified version of High Quality.
