On test it seems the dmg rating on all weapons drop significantly. The EBBC rating is down to 21. a T2 rare dropped bo staff is down to 10. I do understand the str bonus or something similar has been removed from the equation but this drop seems painfully hard.

Spell damage is down significantly as well.

Damage ratings are down a by a good bit. I have duel wields that went from mid twenty to low teen ratings cut by a little more than half. The damage listed once str was accounted for had only been dropped by about 1/3rd.

In actual performance my average strike hadn't changed a whole lot, but my strongest strikes weren't nearly as strong. But this is on a 47th level Dirge. Strength isn't well, my strong point.

Figure my strength was sitting at 143, though it could threoretically gain benefits all the way up to 470. So I wouldn't worry too much about those damage ratings. My average hits didn't feel the change, only my stronger hits did, but that makes sense seeing as I'm a scout. I lost a little non CA strike power, but became more accurate( my unpartied Agi floats in the 225 range depending on food or potions I'm utilizing).

As far as I can tell its how they are making room for those stat buffs to start really mattering. Now its really going to matter how strong the person wielding a weapon is. They work well enough with average stats. Inside a group(once those buffs are fixed) the well buffed melees should be hitting really hard.

this is partially because damage rating is now the true DPS of the weapon and does not change from character to character. Everyone sees the same base damage and damage rating.

The quality of the weapon itself didn't change, just the numerical value that represents its relative damage capability.

Great , thanks for the info

Then why, when my Withered Totem of The Widdershins states that MY Damage is 13 to 40 but I never (since the 09-02 patch) hit for more than 20?? I killed 8 Shade Stalkers (level 46 Heroic ^) back to back and 6 level 45 snakes. No damage anywhere near max. Damage rating went from 36.8 to 16.5???????
One of the things that I've noticed on test is that different classes have different damage modifiers. It seems to be a multiplier to increase or reduce auto-attack damage in-line with the stated changes. Mages do the least auto-attack damage, then priests, fighters and scouts do most.

My mage and priest when examining the same weapon both do less than the stated 'base' damage.

Also, as stated, your damage is mitigated by your opponent. The higher your opponents con color to you, the lower in the range you will do.
