I wanted to play on the test server, so I ran the icon from my test server folder and it logged me in and then started to download, it ran overnight and had downloaded nearly 12 gigs of data and it said that it still needed 6 hours to download, this used up all my allowance for the month (yes I know my stupif faullt for keeping it going) . Is this 12gb + download normal to get onto the test server???

<DIV>Actually that seems really excessive, even if you haven't logged into test.  I don't recall my patching being that large.</DIV>

<DIV>It isnt 12 gig.</DIV> <DIV>The test server program that you get is in its own folder by itself and doesnt access any of the other game files so what you did was start downloading the whole game from the net.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Easy solution to this is to copy all the game files from your game directory into the test folder then run test it shouldnt be quite so large a download then.</DIV>

Thats the first test. If you cant read a text file explaining how to play on the server i dont think you got all that much to contribute there.

No offense to the OP as he/she is just here asking a question and not complaining, but there are plenty of resources out there to help guide people to getting setup on Test properly so they don't have to go through the big download.  There's the Test helpfile in the Test folder.  There's also the forums here where I'm sure someone can do a search or even just start a thread to get help.  The materials are there.

<P>I had -0- problem setting it up based on the instructions given.</P> <P> </P> <P>My 'massive download' took less than an hour.</P>

The launcher could stand to be a little more intelligent though.  Due to disk space limitations, I run Test in the same directory as the regular servers and a lot of times I'll notice it downloads .vpk file updates when no update is really necessary.  For instance, if I log on to my normal server after playing on test, I have to wait through 15 minutes of updates to the .vpk files.  Even more strange, if I'm on my first account on Test server, log out, and switch to my second account on Test server, the launcher still updates the .vpk files. Now, aren't those just the NPC voice files?  Why would they have different versions on test?

<DIV>Here's a wacky notion - A sticky thread in the test forums on how to actually play on test.</DIV> <DIV>Revolutionary idea, I know. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Really want to play on Test. Make it a one button idiot proof process. Now how hard would that be?</P> <P> </P>

<P>Edit: Looks like a sticky thread has been added. Kudos Devs. I'm sure all the "dummies" will appreciate it.</P> <P> </P> <BLOCKQUOTE> <HR> korpo53 wrote:<BR><SPAN><BR> <BLOCKQUOTE><BR><SPAN>Dumb the process down until I'm smart enough to use it, please.</SPAN><BR> <HR> </BLOCKQUOTE></SPAN></BLOCKQUOTE> <DIV>Actually I had no problem using it. But I have had to explain it Guild members. Are they all just stupid? Maybe, but I dont think so. Is everyone that posts in this thread and others wondering how to get started just stupid? The idea of sticky threads is to provide commonly requested information without the thread getting buried. You know, to make information easily avaialble in the location you would expect to find it at? If having a sticky thread is dumbing it down, whatever. Why make it hard to find the information and then wonder why the population of test is so low?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"Dumb the process down", lol. As if there should be some kind of difficult fact-finding mission or rewarding learning experience involved just to get this unpaid beta tester software installed and playable.
