View Full Version : July 20th update has increased zone time from about 25 seconds to 3 mins for me and others

Not quite sure if this should be here but seeing as the July 20th live update was the last to be on Testing, I was wondering if any Dialup users here noticed this happen on Test server before it went to live:-

Since the live update on July the 20th, zoning time has increased by anywhere between 5 to 15 times longer for me. I asked in Commonlands zone if others have the problem, only two responded that they did and they were Dialup users too, so High Speed users probably won't notice this extended zone time happening because from what I observe it's large chunks of bandwidth being downloaded that weren't before. (Large for Dialup users to notice anyway)

I am a DialUp user and here is what I noticed when zoning on the "Waiting for Entities." section during zoning:-

There is absolutely NO HARD DISK activity whatsoever but there is a flood of data being downloaded. This "Waiting for Entities" section of Zoning before the July 20th update usually took about 15 seconds depending on the zone, now it is always taking about 1 minute and 20 seconds, (I timed it 3 times) regardless of wether I'm zoning into the Thundering Steppes or an empty house instance.

If you add up the "Waiting for Entities" step -with- all the other steps, the entire process takes about 3 minutes for me to enter an empty house zone now, which before the July 20th update took about 20 seconds total.

- I had 1 gig of ram -before and after- the July 20th update.

- I had the same 56k modem with the same settings -before and after- the July 19th update.

- Nothing else in my system, net access, ram, hard disk has changed in any way -before or after- the July 20th update

What is all this new flood of data that has made zoning for me a hellish waitfest now? Is it to do with the new 75 quests? I mean, what "entities" could the server possibly be looking for in an empty house instance for 1 minute and 30 seconds? It NEVER did this before.

Any other Dialup users notice this longer zoning time now since the big patch?

Any High Speed users notice it even?

I really would love to see a dev respond about this and I would be willing to supply any more information needed.

Thanks.

P.S. I petitioned about this in game and the response I got from a GM was that people HAVE been petitioning about this but that they think it has something to do with Custom UI's. Myself and the two others I know who have this problem do NOT have custom UI's. Again I reiterated, NOTHING on my system has changed, it happened from the July 20th live update.

I played this morning and zoned as usual. Did you reboot your machine and isp then try again?

Good news! My RL brother was upwards of 20 minutes for zone-time. He's not dial-up though, but I still hope it is related.

I'm on High Speed internet, but did notice a pronounced increase in zone times. Thanks for the response Moorguard!

After LU 11 the problem was that we would zone in a normal amount of time but it would take maybe an extra 30 seconds or so for the rest of our gear and spells to come and we couldn't really do much until then. Will this be fixed too or are they unrelated?

I also have this problem. I have DSL and 512 MB RAM. I know an upgrade to 1 gig would help, but I'm working on it. =P However, I normally run on High Performance in adventure zones and Very High Performance in Qeynos. Today I had to run on Extreme Performance with little lag in adventure zones and unbearable lag in Qeynos, and loading between zones (which I feel should not even be in game) took 5 minutes and even LDed me one time. I defragged about 3 weeks ago, and even rebooting the computer did not help.
