Ok, so for the first time I decide to go make a char on test. I figure I could help out so that Sony don't make as many [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] mistakes as they normally do. So I run the test exe and let it patch. I was going to bed, so I just let it run. I come back in the morning and its done. It says "Sorry, run the patcher again, your version is different from the server". I go to patch it again, thinking it will be a quick little update.... and it starts downloading the who god [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] thing again. I was furious. I knew it was a big patch... but I wasn't sure. So I took a peek at my download history. Sony... I just spent 3.25GB of my 10gb download quota. What the hell is up with that? You can't tell me that you are all so stupid that you have to patch the whole [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] game online. I mean, how many mb of data are actually different on test? I think you are very close to losing 3 accounts. <div></div>

<DIV>Dunno if you browse the forums regularly or not, but I recall having read that to play Test, it is the wisest course of action to copy/reinstall EQ2 to a different drive/directory and keep the second version that's installed for your Test character(s). That way you will avoid the huge patching, like what would happen if you switch from US to EU or vice versa.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sorry the information's late, but you know for future reference now.</DIV>

<div></div>You should have looked in the <a href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board?board.id=faq" target="_blank">FAQ</a> for a thread labled <a target="_blank" href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=faq&message.id=17">Playing on the Test Server</a>.In there you'd have found that the instructions are written down in a text document called TestServerHelp.txt located in the TestServer folder of EQ2. Or you could just have looked in that document before starting the patcher. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

I see some of the people here crawled out of the WoW forums out of boredom! <span>:smileyhappy:</span> Yes he unfortunately didn't look at the read me file about how to avoid this. And in not knowing about what that read me file said, he was very upset about what happened. Notice he hasn't posted since the read me files existence has been pointed out? Give him a break please. <div></div>

<DIV>My biggest concern with this type of situation here is this, one of the most important things you can (HAVE) to do is read the patch notes DAILY just to see what is added to Test server. I would be more concerned that someone that doesn't read the readme in the test server folder is going to log on everyday asking why such and such isn't working now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you don't think this will happen, ask any of the beta testers.</DIV>

I don't think everyone understood me... though reading what I wrote again, thats understandable. I copied over my main folder like we are supposed to do, and when i ran the patcher it said my version was different to test and that I'd need to run the patcher again. So i did a full scan and just went to bed. So... even after I'd copied over everything, it still wanted me to patch 3Gb of files (which I didnt realise it would do when I went to bed). I"ve since made a test char using this account from another computer, but no matter what I do on this computer, it says I have a different version to test. Does anyone know if I can suspend my account, wait till DOF, and then open it up to see if things are better? I dont have as much time to play these days, and frankly i'd rather spend that time playing guildwars. Or if I suspend my account, do I lose my level 50 char? If thats the case then lol, the first person can surely have my stuff. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

I had the same problem and still do, but ill tell you what worked for me. I followed the help.txt exactly and did everything it told me to do but got the same problem. Even though I had copied and pasted the files it was still trying to dowload everything /groan Anyhow, long story short, if you havent already, try running the program directly from the eq2test folder in your EQII directory rather than from the shortcut. I dont know why, but it worked. It probably shoulndnt make a difference, but it did. Anyhow give that a shot. Hope it works <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

I think you must've done something wrong. I just did this myself yesterday and it worked as advertised. I was able to run the game from the shortcut and it did a normal patch, not the entire thing.
<DIV>Ok lets try to be a little less sarcastic. There are a number of folks currently playing on test who did the same thing. ( NO i will not name names). There are faq's in several places including <A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support_article.vm?label=JoiningtheTestServer" target=_blank>http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support_article.vm?label=JoiningtheTestServer</A> that will reduce the installation time below 20 minutes. Trust me, you are not the first to have missed them. </DIV>

No, you will not lose any of your characters, equipment, etc. if you stop paying your subscription fees. Someone in my guild just came back to EQ2 after being gone 6 months and everything was just as he left it.
