<DIV>O.k. I play from an Asian country.. the new scheduled server down time is 11 pm my time.. 12 pm Japan, Australia.. 10pm in Taiwan / Hong Kong.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What in the world are you guys thinking? I am sure every one of us are either student or have a job.. except those few who have many more hours than the ordinary bunch.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For example, I get off job around 6 pm.. get home have dinner and other house chore and sit in front of the computer to play EQ2.. usually at about 8 pm.. my RAID guild usually gather around (so far.. 10 pm my time due to the unappreciative server reset but something we have learned to live with) 10 pm.. and raid usually last 2 to 3 hours.. meaning.. we would stay on game til the midnight or 1 am.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With the new scheduled server down time.. I will still be logging onto the game at 8.. but the whole raid schedule has to be rescheduled but I seriouisly doubt we can do much.. if the server down is at 11 pm.. Servers will come down in the middle of our raid time.. and in fact raid time of almost all asia based raid guilds.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With the new announcement.. almost all 40 or so of us in the guild are planning on finding a new game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Is this game designed for those who play during the day time? I am not sure but as far as I know most of us in Asia, at least most of my guild members play during the night time.. we need to work / study for living.. game comes as a part of leisure.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sooner or later, most guilds or players will be high lvlers and EQ since the first one is known for it's raid.. now that your company not only lacking in the raid content, is killing the very chance people in this part of the world have for raid.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would be happier if you would move the new server down time one hour faster than the current one.. if you had any sense.. you should have done it that way....but making it at the real prime time people play.. that just shows your lack of interest in the very customers / players on their prime playing time..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I can only wish you do a little more research before you choose to announce such.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With all the respect..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sumanji 50 Fury, a Proud Member of Dernier Pilgrims, Level 30 raid guild in Guk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
They changed it because it cut into the majority of australians PRIME time play. It was debated by many of us aussies and im glad they changed it. UNfortunately there will be people that are affected such as your own case. But i doubt they will change it back to the 4am times.

It doesnt matter what part of the world you live in, the server downtime is going to cut into someone's play time. I'm a little disappointed that it's been changed to a later time but you learn to deal with it. And Moorgard did say that the servers would not be coming down on a daily basis for restart so at least that's something. Now they just need to make sure that all servertime downtime messages are posted ahead of time to give people time to readjust any raiding plans they may have. <div></div>

Also, why should SoE employees have to get to work at 3 in the morning just to please some people and [Removed for Content] other people off. I'd rather get there at a reasonable time and [Removed for Content] the same number of people off. <div></div>

<DIV>My personal guess as to why this new time slot was selected is because there are currently American and European designated servers, there will soon be Asian designated servers but there will probably never be an Australasian designated server.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The upside of this is that the servers are supposedly stable enough now that daily reboots are no longer necessary and the server should only be down for scheduled updates and server maintenance.</DIV>

<P>The server down time is a PITA. We end up many nights during the week on Test server getting changes at about 9 pm EST, So I end up in the same boat. But it is convienient for the PST, where SoE is located to get changes on Test and have PST prime time to test, /bug and /feedback them. Only saving grace for me is the server does not get reset every night like the live servers. </P> <P> </P> <P>I remember the debate for the reset time for the live servers, Think it was based on trying to inconvienience the least number of folks. But like said, it was going to affect someone. They also mentioned that the time would most likely change again on a periodic basis. Not sure when or if this will change. Think the best solution would be trying to get the game and servers to not need the daily reset if at all possible, but think this is sometime in the future. </P> <P> </P> <P>Dye</P>

<P>They should have set servers go down for maintenance at same time everywhere...:</P> <P>Euro Servers - 3-6am CET</P> <P>US Servers - 3-6am PST</P> <P>Asian Servers - 3-6am (Japan time)</P> <P>Granted, you are going to have Asians on Euro servers and US on Euro servers.... </P> <P>Its always going to inconvenience someone somewhere.... </P> <P>Right now, I cant log my merchant on before I go to work. </P> <P> </P> <P>Maybe they determined this current time is when the lowest population of players are online. Chances are they want to do full server maintenance at once, and figured [Removed for Content] off 100 people was better than [Removed for Content] off 10000 people.</P> <P> </P>

<P>Its been a while since I actually logged on.. but this is copied from the news section.</P> <P> </P> <P>We also wanted to let everyone know that <FONT color=#ffff00>we will not be bringing the servers down for a daily restart unless there is a necessary update or fix</FONT>. Previously we have been restarting the servers most days, whether there was an update or not. Based on server optimizations the team has performed since launch, we are confident in our server stability and intend to keep them running between necessary updates.</P> <P> </P> <P>So the downtime shouldn't really be a problem unless there is a patch. I don't know if this has gone into effect quite yet, as I said I haven't logged on in a while, but it appears that your server will be up anyway at that time, and if its still not, it will be soon.</P> <P>17</P>

As 11pm is not considered Prime Time for most players. Most players consider 5pm to 9 or 10pm as "prime time". If have my time conversions right.... 7am PST = 10am EST = 3pm UTC (UK) = 4pm Central Europe = 11pm most of Asia = midnight Japan = 1am Sydney 7am for the West Coast of the US is a pretty darn good compromise which doesn't, mostly, impact the common concept of Prime Time. Euro servers have downtimes more conducisive to Euro players. There -are-, according to announcements, plans for Asia servers, too (including at least visual changes to characters more "favourable" to what Asian players are used to seeing), which would have downtimes tailored more toward their time zone considerations. <div></div>
