Ok, so SOE added dueling. And there's a penalty. The standard penalty for dying: exp debt, equipment decay, shard run... Some people like it. Some hate it. Some don't give an expletive. However, the penalty can be avoided by surrendering. Knowing when to surrender would take good judgement, as well as a hotkey (macro) to surrender. My suggestion is to have the following option: auto-surrender. When you get below a pre-determined amount of HP, you automatically surrender. This would also be handy should horrible latency decide to strike someone in a duel. Note that this would also take good judgement, because if you set it too high you might surrender in a close fight, but if you set it to low (ie 5%), you probably won't drop below that amount, you'll likely die from the next hit. Also another nice option to have is to block duel requests, for those players who just never plan on dueling. Oh yeah, and these options should in fact be optional. You don't have to use them

Message Edited by Roninja on 05-31-2005 06:08 PM

The auto decline/flagged non-PvP'er is a good idea and most people are for that. If I were a betting man, I'd say this is a safe bet that this will be implemented.

For the auto surrender, I would like another way of putting this in. I would rather have an option beforehand that asks "Deathmatch" (Thinking about Star wars, Knights of the Old Republic) and you click yes or no. If one picks yes and the other picks no, then the Duel cancels and must be challenged again. This way friends can Duel with no worries and cocky people will get their death after running their mouths. Better yet, just make two different Duel invitations so the person knows what they are getting themselves into. Reason I would like it this way is because I don't want someone doing a surrender at the last second after threatening me that they can kill me no problem or "Own me cause I'm a noob."

If the two different invitations aren't the way it will be done then I just hope that auto surrender doesn't get put in. Friends will have to duel smart and know when to stop and I still get my chance to wiping out a true enemy. One last request, no announcing who wins through the OOC chat. Duel spam will be bad enough, no need to make it worse. And to be honest, I'm pretty sure people will be announcing their own wins anyways. I'm just so glad I'm past level 20 and don't HAVE to be in Antonica/Freeport. Those places will be the absolute worst for Spam (They are the worst now for Spam, it will get worse.....much worse).

I like the idea that "accidents can happen" and you might kill your friend. The surrender option is nice because it means judgement is a factor.

Accidents will happen a lot to people duelling Warlocks who tend to take chunks of 2k and 1k hp at a time.
