If dueling were to have no penalties, people would exploit it as a free teleport out of bad spots.

Personally, I think in an MMO you should actively want to avoid dying, regardless of the situation. Just because dueling is there for fun doesn't mean there shouldn't be consequences to it. Risks without consequences aren't really risks at all.

===========================MoorgardEverQuest II Community Guy

ok now if there is a risk to dueling... why is there no reward, it makes perfect sence for there to be a reward to killing somone... maybe a cash prize or soemthing... i dunno

thats an assumption that by losing in a duel you are considered dead.

I think most folks want duels to end without death.. and no penalties...

good christ what happened to just having fun in a game?? why does everything involve penalties with EQ2?? its pretty messed up if you want my opinion (and im sure you dont)

there IS humility in losing a duel.. just set some sort of global announcement like in other games that offer this within the area. Not like that many people are going to be dueling (or even play this game any more for that matter) that yer gonna get spammed due to "duel loser" announcements.

If I own someone in PvP I dont want the grief of their soul shard, xp loss and gear damage.. thats just messed up.

and to quote what you said "Risks without consequences aren't really risks at all."
whats the benefits in this risk?

Message Edited by Rayx0r on 05-23-2005 06:41 PM

yaeh i get what your saying but thats just the way things are in eq2... or at least usually, anyway if there is going to be a penalty for losing there should be a reward for winning... all im saying

definitely agree with you there.

if for some odd cosmic planet aligned *cough* programmers cant think outside the box reason they cannot offer a no-death duel system..then the winner needs to take home a prize if he's risking so much

After I kill somone, I want their soulshard laying at my feet, I want them to go repair their armor that I just shredded, and I want them to try harder the next time we fight because they now know that it really sucks to die.

Also, that kid spamming me with /duel, once I accept I want him to think twice before spamming /duel again.

Now, when I am dueling with friends, we will fight to 20% health or something equivelent..because I am not into beating a friend to death.

For immersion, this is the only way to go. If not you end up with /duel spammers and people who have no regaurd for who they duel.

One thing I would like to see though, is an arena where you can fight to the death with no loss.

That way its fair for everyone.

If there's no penalty, how can we be sure both duelists will be trying their best?

Would be nice to even have something as simple as a win / loss record. Kinda like they keep track of your gnoll and orc kills.

that way you would at least have something.

Possibly even have a selection in the duel confirmation for either a duel to the death or submission. That way you wouldnt have to worry about hitting that "/surrender" hotkey.

Just a couple of thoughts.

"Why is it a penny for your thoughts, but you have to put your 2 cents in??? Who is making that other penny???"
