As both a thank-you to our testers and a way to encourage participation in the testing process, from here forward the Test server has a 50% bonus to both adventure and tradeskill XP. This bonus is in effect all the time, on top of any Vitality bonus you receive.

Thanks to everyone who spends so much time helping us test content and features before they go to the live servers. If you've thought about playing a character on Test before, now is an excellent time to start one.

Hmmm not sure I like this change.

Experience increased, that means less testing going on and more mass farming for the all mighty lvl 50.

People leveling in less time, with no change in the loot or drops has the potential to cause many players to outlevel their gear, and ability upgrades. They will be gaining levels faster than they can gain the coin to purchase the upgrades to spells/abilities/equipment. Then those crafters that are here will be getting more requests for items than they have time to fill.

Less time to lvl = Less content being used = Less "testing" being done. (just one way of looking at it)

I can understand the wish to accellerate the rate at which people gain lvls in order to provide more higher end content testers, but lets not let it get to the point where the mid range and low end content gets ignored due to the test server now being like the live servers in regards to the "race" to the end game.

Just a few thoughts on the matter...Jury is still out on this for me.

**edited to reflect that it is an increase not a double** (thnx eva )

Message Edited by Heiro on 05-12-2005 08:52 PM

+50% isn't double. So, it wont mean people level twice as fast. It is half again a vitality bonus. And, I believe Nate said something about a Toggle in game. /toggle_bonusxp or something, will turn off the bonus??

Oops, I should have mentioned that those who would prefer to advance at the same rate as players on the live servers can type the "/toggle_bonus_exp" command to toggle it off (type it again to turn the bonus XP back on). You can play whichever way you prefer, and it won't impact the people who want to test without the bonus.

Explain to me how that works. When leveling is quick, I tend to spend less time sitting in one place trying to get the most efficient exp, spending more time seeing as much of that level's worth of content as I can. If leveling were harder, I'd probably spend a lot of time trying to find a way to speed it up...seeing less overall content in favor of staying in the fastest experiencing areas. Maybe it's just me. This is also a draw to get more people to play on Test...

You play on the test server to TEST, Testing requires you will have to make multiple toons if theres major changes to test out each change at each level. So you need to test a change thats been made at say level 20 and all your toons are level 30+, so to test that change you have to make a new toon just to test that change. So the test server isn't to play on, its to actually bug test the game. For that reason its why I'm always annoyed at the bugs that no-one bothers to report so I have started on the test server my self. So unless SOE have an option to have pre built toons at set levels to test out features, remaking toons is the only way. So leveling to the required level is whats needed and quickly or do you want a bug ridden game?

Can people transfer there toons from Test to a regular server? If so, I can see people using that which is what you want I guess. Not saying I am against the idea at all, just asking questions.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

This makes getting through the rough spots so much nicer!

Heiro, don't worry, we will be OK, there are characters of all levels. I think the people that want to rush to 50 rush to 50 anyway and the rest take their time and enjoy the journey. It will be nice to have more level 50s available for testing, for those that want to be there.

This is a great idea, as it will allow people to spend part of the time on test and still get them into the mid-range of levels faster so that they might test a greater portion of the content.

What happens on Test stays on Test.... Someone used that Vegas line before. Characters made or transferred there never leave. We have a community message board. If you come over and start playing, drop by there to catch up on all the dirt. eq2test.com ~Eva

Very nice. Thank you. Now could you please do something about hte file on the patcher called "Noship_unfiled.vpk" please. If this is just a voice pak, make it part of the optional downloads, or cut it up, or make the patcher start from the last known good file point instaead of restarting from the begining of the file if the download is interupted. I'm getting kinda to'd not being able to download this thing and get in. Any response on this would be helpful as I am loseing hope fast, and patience faster =(

I just want to ask if you are going to allow server transfers from test to the exchange servers? If so test will be used as a power leveling server. granted its not a huge bonus but still good for someone who just wants to sell toons.

Total Wipe of all players in Test Server Data. Which is technically in the test server eula but people got outraged and stuff about the possibility of losing all their hard earned levels/equipment/etc and starting from scratch. Test Server for EQ1 was filled with all kinds of items that never made it to live, which is why the Gods that be wanted to clean it. Some of the items were what were beating the encounters, instead of the players.

I only vaguely remember the incident. I have never played on the EQ1 Test Server except for quick try outs of new system specs. Though, I remember a few guildies griping about their test babies going from uber to [Removed for Content] in guildchat. I vaguely remember a petition and sorta sit in for "no testing here" if they didn't get their way ..

... I can't remember if they re-loaded the test server prior to the wipe or just gave free moves from pre-wipe info to those characters that wanted "normality" ... but it was a one-time thing, had a VERY short sign-up period, quite a few "mysterious" /movelog errors, never happened again and they keep re-stating the fact that if you want to play on the test server be prepared to log in one day and be a level 1 again at any point in time .. Though I do know they haven't ever attempted that since :smileytongue:

Maybe Bhagpuss (May I say I am surprised no one has changed that Board Name .. ) or someone else will chime in with more data. I was on test on June 20, 1999. I know that the previous posters rendition of the Wipe is a little off. But close. Test was buggy and extraordinary loot was dropping off newbie mobs occaisionally. Add to that Kunark had released a few months earlier. Some rolebacks had caused Kunark buffies to reappear on accounts. Now what is a buffy? It isnt a blond girl with a stake. It was characters that had buffed levels and given Kunark items for testing kunark mobs including Trakanon. I was one such person with such a character. Now, my friends told me to delete her, and in paranoia I did, thanks Kendrick and Mrylokar....but others did not. Items were traded, arguements between gms and producers ensued. Test was wiped of all characters. Regret and wisdom sinks in. Velious launches in 5 months??? How are we going to test? Ok, the characters are restored. Naked. I was bound outside of Sebilis. Level 54 enchanter, no armor, food, jboots and no where to go. The run through Traks teeth and FV and so on to The Overthere was my personal triathalon..... My guild, Course of Empire at that time, went into the Plane of Hate with summoned armor and weapons. Needless to say it took years for us to be anywhere close to where live servers were. On the other hand, Test united for quite awhile--this was on and off til present day. Like any server, what comes together breaks apart eventually. We also got a promise, they would make sure that server drops didn't interfere so much with our ability to raid. We had raid zones, and mobs spawned for us that the servers instability made impossible otherwise. We had more customer service after the wipe than ever before. And, it was a lesson. The wipe looked easy. But it would have been easier to get rid of the various items and characters that didnt belong, in the long run. Looking back....wow, those were great times. Adversity =pride.
