This is on the regular servers as well. It appears that somewhere along the line one of the patches broke the HO wheel - at least when it is initiated by a fighter. My main character is a berserker, and I'm not sure if this problem is exclusive to the "fighter" HO wheel, but when I am in a group that does NOT have a mage class character in it, the mage "lightning" icon will come up on the HO wheel whenever I, as the fighter, initiate the starter chain and, specifically, a healer class triggers the next icon in the chain (I have not noticed this happening when classes other than a healer class trigger the first step in the fighter's starter chain). Then we're stuck with the mage lightning icon which completely halts the HO and forces us to start again. As I recall, HOs were supposed to only give you icons based on who is in the party. If I'm wrong I would like to have a clarification that all is working as intended. Otherwise, this simple fix must be addressed. This problem has existed now for quite some time.
Message Edited by HarlequinJD on 05-11-2005 11:20 AM
Fighter HO starter + Priest "Hammer" -> Mage "Lightning" to continue. This has been this way since beta, it is meant as a group HO, for full groups, if you want to HO with a priest you have to use: Fighter HO starter + Priest "Chalice" -> Fighter + Priest abilities to finish HO. Nothing is wrong, nothing is changed, this is just how that particular HO pans out, you either stop doing your starter in unprepared groups, ask the priest to stop nuking or get a Mage archetype in your groups to be able to complete HO. Nothing broken here.

Thanks for the confirmation. Everybody online that I spoke to was under the impression this was a bug. That being said, are there any other HO's that specifically require in the chain a skill from a class who may not be in the party? I've played quite a few classes and never come across another one. Based on this alone (of course, assuming I am correct, which I may not be), I don't understand the need to have such an HO.

Message Edited by HarlequinJD on 05-11-2005 11:19 AM

yes, dont remember the exact combo, but there is a scout fighter combo that requires a caster as well

Well basically every HO starter has a few possible outcomes, I'm feeling nice today Fighter Mages Priest Scouts You'll notice that Fighter HO -> Priest "Hammer" is the only 2-step starter that is a non-scout HO. As a general rule the scout HO are aimed at bigger groups. This isn't negative or positive, it's just an intricacy of the HO system. I've duoed a lot with a fighter and we usually alternate our solo HOs, or he gives me a heads up when he plans to HO so I stop nuking, or he tells me to go ahead with my chalice after he does the starter. For starting fights, I would recommend you do the HO, then tell the priest to throw a debuff on his first spell. The debuff won't advance the wheel, letting the fighter time to do his sword icon, and then the priest can throw is nuke while the wheel is up without disturbing the chain. It's also not worth it for me to stop nuking just to not screwing up the fighter's HO, my Frost does 2-3 times as much damage as his solo HO completion and is on a 3 sec recast, better for the MT to just throw his taunts anyways and not worry about getting a little damage bonus from his taunt (barring any hate management issues of course).

Message Edited by Euler on 05-11-2005 11:30 AM

Don't know if its a bug or not but I have noticed that when I fire off a solo HO and it asks for the last peice I have 3 icons flashing ready to use, so I hit my prefered attack, and no HO. The blow will land and it will register damage but no HO, so I hit the next and the same thing happens and I will hit my last option to complete my wheel and again nothing it will just time out and I start over again. This is with my ranger and aint noticed it happening on group HO's so I would like to know if its me going wrong/something thats meant to happen/or a ugly bug?

Greetings!

I have this same problem as the last poster . . .sometimes no matter what i do . . nothing completes a solo HO .. it happens sometimes on my fighters but most often on scout types . . . i have only rarely had it happen on a caster . . .On my scouts it can get me killed quicker than anything not to be able to complete the HOs because i NEED the damage they do . . . especially my troubador who dies to this problem quite regularly. I took to bug reporting this every time i died . . but . . . i am not sure those bug reports EVER do any good . . .finally i just stopped playing her . . she is my provisioner . . now she just stays home and makes drinks. She was my favorite one to play but after so many nerfs and this trouble with the HOs . .it got to be so discouraging I stopped taking her out unless she could go out with a guild group. There is not much hope of soloing even blue things if I can't get HOs to complete more consistently. I had looked and looked but never saw anyone else mention the problem. Glad to know it was not just me . . was beginning to feel really picked on my Mr. Murphy! It would be lovely if someone would test with scouts on test and see if the problem can be duplicated. . .

whiteheart

I have noticed something with the fighters HO starter that dosnt seem right.... When a fighter triggers his starter, a mage can continue with a nuke even tho there isnt any mage icon there and get fighter/mage HO.

There are icons for the fighter to continue his solo one, then chalice and hammer (both priest) and scout, but nothing for mage even tho mages nuke can continue.

It's hidden, but the Lightning is in there.
