What pieces (ie. chestpiece, bracers, boots, etc.) should we wear to affect the avoidance calculation? How is everyone going to look wearing mixed sets for optimal performance?

Blackhair, First, keep in mind that all these mechanics changes are being tweaked and so what we see on Test now is probably not quite what will go to Live, when it finally goes there. The avoidance does not seem to be predetermined based on what your class is capable of wearing, but rather based on what you are actually wearing. My best guess (still just a guess) would be that they have modified the formula that calculates your character's avoidance, and it now takes into account certain values intrinsic to the items themselves. Therefore mixing different pieces of armor from different sets would not screw up the math, and yes we might see people do that. (particularly for "smaller" pieces like gloves/boots/hood.. but in a way that might be kind of cool ) As far as how DPS balances out.. I do not think the objective is to make the avoidance of very light armor completely balance out the mitigation lost from heavy. This change is about making fighters better tanks, relative to other archetypes. Currently on Test the consensus seems to be that Medium armor is not working correctly, but again, this is all subject to many changes before Live. I would suggest that the avoidance thing has more to do with balancing plate and brawler tanks. Or, putting it another way, I'm not sure that light armor is receiving an avoidance bonus, so much as heavy armor is getting an avoidance penalty. But I don't know the details for sure. =) I do think this was mostly sparked by guardians having their avoidance too high tho.

Message Edited by Sebastien on 04-17-2005 03:44 PM
