So I am an adventurer and i play a bit more than casual, but thats okay. Reading these patch notes really concerns me.

so where to start...

Access Zones - was it that hard to make people run access quests, I mean most take a bit of effort but its not that much.

Tarton's Wheel - Beza was difficult to find but not impossible, that is what made the item more desirable to attain.

Hex Dolls - werent they already powerful? why not make the non rare ones less potent?

Heritage items - they were easy to attain before and shoudlnt be a cake walk to attain. so waht if you have to pay some gp/pp for the item you need to complete it or sit and harvest for a while, being difficult is what made them nice to have.

No trade rewards... I personally do quests for fun and to use the item i get or sell / trade if i cannot. It sounds like the market is being made more and more of a crafters arena where adventures have the ability to make no money from it.

But thats just my 2cp hopefully something is done to make the game enjoyable and to reward those whose time and effort was put into things and not just make it so everyone can catch up over night it seems.

Coel

Swashbuckler AB

Message Edited by AegisCrown on 04-03-2005 09:16 AM

As far as the Access Zones note is concerned, allowing a group to enter if one person has the access quest complete...

I like the change. It doesn't personally help myself, as I have a static group that does everything together. What this does is allows casual players that aren't in a guild, or don't have a static group to enter the instance more easily since it's difficult to find 5 other 'random' people with access to the zone. The change really doesn't negatively effect those that have already done the access quests...now we have more of a variety of people to group with in these instances .

A lot of good points in the OP, and worthy of 5 stars, but I do like the change for the access-required zones. Personally I never understood the need to lock players out of everything but the most basic zones, but that's another issue.

To respond to yours, as a Templar, I'm always getting tells or hearing /ooc's needing a healer or some other class, such as to kill Varsoon (CoI access required). Even pleading at times. But I don't have access so I can't help, as are many other willing players not allowed to do.

So even those with access find their game enjoyment impaired, if not absolutely stonewalled, because of these lock-outs of the general player base, not allowing them to form groups necessary to play in them.

It's one of those nebulous roadblocks to player enjoyment that I've never understood the need for, and am glad to see loosened, as it does benefit the player base more than hurt, be it the powergamer elitests or the general player base at large.

Message Edited by Shandael on 04-03-2005 09:44 AM

The access part of this patch is real big IF. I mean i cna see doing it for some of the lower end 35 and lower content for access zones but some of the high end zones are nice and challenging and this brings its own loot table and story content. Don't get me wrong i want people to experience all the content they can but some access like Drayek's Chamber is a not easy to attain but now you jsut have to find one person with that access and your set.. doesnt seem right but zones like Miragul's Menagerie have an easier access quest. It will continue to go both ways as long as access quests are in the game. I'd just like to see the game be somewhat of a challenge for the more avid and casual palyers out there.

Coel

Swashbuckler AB

MMOGs change.. Sometimes people who break ground first have things much easier... and then developers fix bugs, holes or unbalanced content for its intended purpose... Sometimes it works the other way, and things are made easier because they are beyond intended difficulty... It all balances out in the end.. and change is the one thing you can count on in a game like this... If you can't stomach the idea of change, or that something you did WILL be easier or harder to do by others in the future, you should probably look for a more static hobby.

Why should everyone have a key to a door to be able enter? It should be just as in real life... one key is all that is required to open a door and once open an entire group may enter.

GIve yourself a pat on the back and relax. Frankly your achievements only mean something to you and your friends (guild if in one). MMOG change and evolve and it will never please everyone, just learn to live with them.

I really miss EQ1 where you can enter a zone at will and feel free to camp what you wanted and grind, etc in there. These new instanced zones are so boring, its like you go in there once or twice to do what you needed to do and you never want to go back there again because of timers and these insanely long access for almost every dungeon. No wonder people discribe EQ2 as being a really small world. Well they are right, it is really small with lots of accessed instanced dungeon rooms that everyone has to do access to it making it even smaller. It's very hard to get a group going in these zones because not everyone has access to them.

This change will make the game more fun and less of a tassle. There is a reason why WoW has 1.5 million subscribers and EQ2 everyday is making changes to compete with them and I am loving the changes.

Message Edited by SuzyQ100 on 04-03-2005 02:22 PM
I never did understand the purpose of making it such a pain just to be able to hunt or access a certain area. I'm sure people will bring up that the name of the game is EVERQUEST but that doesn't mean its quest for everything.

This post inspired me and I think I came up with an excellent idea, which all players will be happy about. I´ll start a new thread, so it gets some attention.

The access part of the patch will only make those who did the quest stick out of the crowd a little bit more and add to their prestige therefore.
