<DIV>Aye, I have to agree with you.  Let's just say I mailed my Uber-sword to a pal of mine.  He reads the email and, for whatever reason (say inventory was full), he doesn't pull the weapon in.  Now, 3 days go by and the email gets deleted.  Does the weapon get deleted too?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't get me wrong, email is a great idea - but I have to go with the max allowable space idea.  Give us a cap on the amount of email we can have and let us determine what we can keep and what we get rid of.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

LOL.. I like that you suggest that get over the fear of having a large database, then you suggest that each of some probably million characters should be able to keep at least 1000 letters for as long as they like...Mail is designed to facilitate communication in the game... I see no reason why you would need to save 1000 in-game emails. There are plenty of actual e-mail services you could use if you require that kind of functionality... The intent of mail in any MMOG is not to be a replacement for other means of communication.

<P>1000 letters is a bit much...</P> <P>I never kept over 50 gmails the whole time I played SWG. they should make a cap at 60 but the 3 day limit is not enough time.</P>

I very much doubt there is *ANY* possibility the devs could choose the "right" number of emails to allow everyone to haveAlready, just in these few posts, we can see people saying 10 is fine, no I need 50! 50 is fine! Never I need 100, no, 1000 No! More!Perhaps a better answer would be to let people save their emails to their own hard drive (Didn't SWG have a /savemail feature?) which avoids any large DB issues where people hoard every email they recieved for the last 5 yearsPersonally I have every email I sent and recieved since I upgraded from my XT stored locally so can understand peoploe wanting to keep them. But no ISP I have ever had has allowed me to keep more than 10 meg or so of Email on the server. It's been up to me and my HDD to keep what I wanted to

<DIV>3 days isnt a lot of time, but an easy thing to do is be able to take the letter and store it in the players bank or something, so it wastes away like an item and doesnt disappear instead of wastes away like money to be stolen by the next pickpocket to walk by =</DIV>

Why not just give an option to save the letter? It can create a text file on your machine so you can look at it whenever you want. Add another option to "read saved mail" which opened any messages you have saved on your hard drive in a game UI window.

Don't you see advanced mail comes with the small of just 99c per month.

I would agree that 3 days is way to short. I like the /savemail function....how about this:All opened email over 3 days is autoarchived to your hard drive. If you want to access it in game, there would be a folder or button which pulls all of your archived email from your hard drive for you to see in game.

Things like "Welcome to the guild, here are some important info highlights" you should be able to hold onto. Also, in the case of a dispute, "Your email said meet here in a week" "No it didnt it said if you werent in your room, I'm going to claim all your furniture!" will be kinda hard without records. If someone sends you an abusive email, you will not have time to sort the situation out, you must either report them straight away or let the email be deleted.Perhaps allow 10-20 stored emails? More for Station subs of course... =/

Why keep so many emails? Hopefully they can make it so you can keep a log of mail you get, would that work? <div></div>

The number of mails don't bother me too much but I really do think the 3 days is too short and you should also have a way to log mail(save it to your hard drive) but it would be nice to be able to save say 10 mails indefinitely if you mark them so that way you can save your welcome to guild mails and anything that is more of a structured letter that you would send through out your whole EQ 2 career <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />    <div></div>

As touched on before, if you send an item in a mail and the mail is not opened within the 3 days is the item destroyed?

<blockquote><hr>Big Dave wrote:As touched on before, if you send an item in a mail and the mail is not opened within the 3 days is the item destroyed? <hr></blockquote>Unopened mail stays in the system for 30 days so you have that long at least for not checking your mail.I haven't tested this myself but if time runs out, I hope that maybe it is returned to the sender instead of being deleted.

How about by default read mail is deleted after 3 days, but then have a "save mail" or "mark as unread" that keeps it around longer? And maybe a "Return to Sender" for undeliverable Packages.

This is exactly how it works in World of Warcraft. You do get the option of saving a hard copy. Not sure if that's what they're doing here. I think what they're trying to avoid is having the Post act as a storage facility. You know as well as I do, that some people would do just that.
