Lots of people are complaining about the new patch and I understand why.
There is both good and bad coming from this patch - for this post I am only talking about crafting.

I have a lvl 40 Tailor and a lvl 40 Alchemist...I made the alchemist because at the time the prices of WORTs where way too high for me.

Now SOE comes out with new classes that all artisans can have...basically it sounds like all artisan will be able to make all the "refines" - by "refines" I belive they mean all the items in the beginning teir book.

So now sages can make all the quills / paper / ink they need without ever talking to another player.

There is a good side and a bad side to this...

The bad news is that it puts a lot of strain on interdependancy...why buy from someone when you can make it yourself.

The good news is that they (SOE) have not said how well you can make these items...I am going to bet that sages can make their own ink now but probably will never have the skill to get it to prestine..and thus they still need an alchemist to make them prestine ink.

The result is both good and bad.

The bad news is now that everyone can make their own refines, we have no market for non-prestine items other then the NPC and it gets MUCH worse as we have not talked about the fuel cost increase.

The good news is that the market will now be flooded with items that are overpriced and no-one wants to buy...wait is that reall good news?

As a tailor this part of the patch is VERY good news as I can now pretty much make everything I need myself...don't get me wrong I like dealing and haggeling with other players on prices...but know I can make all my own sub components...and with tailor all the "other" player made parts are not the main component so quality really does not matter.

As an alchemist this patch is VERY bad...no more sales of WORTs and my ink sales just went bye bye ... good thing I never really sold anything anyways..most of my deals were in trade...ask a sage for a stack of patterns and I hand them a stack of ink (and thread) in trade - we both won, after this patch we both lose - the sage does not need me as much and I do not need the sage at all.

Now lets talk about fuel cost increases.

Both my charactors are teir 5 crafting ... but my combat skills are not really good enough to harvest in the teir 5 zones... so I have to buy the bulk of my raw materials on the market.

Wait...after this patch there will be no raw materials on the market as everyone will buy them cause they can make their own sub components now...grrrr....anyways...

On Test right now the teir 5 fuel is 15 SP.
The CHEAPEST I have seen teir 5 material on the market is 20 SP.

One teir 5 combine sells back to the NPC at about 30 SP (might be 34 dont really remeber)

So... 20 SP material and 15 SP fuel is 35 SP my cost per combine...going on the notion that the NPC buy back is staying at 30 SP that means I lost 5 SP my first combine.

But I can make that money selling to other players right?.....wrong.

Who would want to pay out the nose for a finished sub-item ...when they can make all the subs they need.

And as for finished products...just watch....there will be no finished products on the market as it is now too risky to make them.

Before the patch, if I make an item and it does not sell...no big deal, I sell to NPC and just bearly break even (most of the time I took a small loss)

After this patch....it will cost about 1.5 to 2 gold just to make the item and thats JUST fuel costs...not including cost of raw materials....if you add that in your looking at about 4 gold...give or take a few silver here and there.

So SOE...you tell me....which option should I choose....

1. Continue crafting and hope and pray that people understand why there is a hugh cost increase in an already out of hand market (fuel costs and materials costs both will go up)...and lose a lot of money in the process.

2. Quit crafting all together and make my money questing and such (which I do anyways).

Don't get me wrong...I understand why they are doing this...

1. All crafters can make their own refines...they are doing this because some classes (sages) can't do anything without getting sub components from other players....and most people just flat out hate dealing with inter-dependency.

2. Fuel cost increase... basically once you hit teir 5 and you can harvest all your own stuff you can litterally craft your own money just selling to the NPC.

one combine resells for 30 SP
two combines resells for 60 SP
three combines resells for 1 gold

you get the point... SOE is trying to put an end to people making cash off the NPC.

This is what I think will happen...flame me if you want ....

The patch will come out and there will be a HUGE surge of crafters making things as they can now make all their own sub components.

The market will be void of practically all raw materials...or they will cost a small fortune (already over priced)

The market will get flooded with junk items that no-one wants to buy - 3000 copies of the same aprentice 3 spell all overpriced just so the crafters can try to break even from the fuel cost increase.

Time goes by....

The market is empty of items other then looted ones because all crafters move to a "Special Order Only" style system - meaning they only make things on special order and it will cost you a ton of cash as they fear losing money making the item.

Time goes by...

SOE has another meeting on how to fix the market and make crafters happy.

My thoughts...

1. Leave fuel costs alone....that alone will help keep the market costs down.

2. All crafters can make subs...good idea, just make sure they can not make them prestine or there will be no market...for any crafting class.

3. Increase NPC buy back....the NPC does not take into account that I had to pay out the nose for teir 5 resources...and there will no longer be a market for non-prestine items.

4. Tasks and Writs....you guys need to take a serious look at these...they should be rewarding...right now they are a waste of time...after this patch goes live they will be a myth.

5. Offline selling...o please is it REALLY that hard to impliment???
