New Fan Art Contest!

<p class="MsoNormal">To celebrate the new art gallery that we’ll have for fan art we thought it would be a good idea to hold a little contest. </p> <p class="MsoNormal">So first you probably wonder, what is this gallery? <span style=""> </span>The gallery is comprised solely of art made by you!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">We’d like for you to make your own piece of fan art, it can be anything EQII related and must be in an 800 by 600 format, but everything else is up to you to create. Let your imagination go wild!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Is there a prize? Well yes, yes there is! We’re going to give the winner of the contest a new forum title letting everyone know that they’ve won this latest fan art contest and we’ll even put a note under their entry in our art gallery letting everyone know who the winner was!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">So remember, submit your work in 800 by 600 pixel size and have fun! Please submit your entry by <st1:date year="2006" day="15" month="9">September 15^th 2006</st1:date> and may the best artist win!</p>

<DIV>Since we can use whatever art medium we choose will there be any awards for best in a particular category? It would seem to me a little unfair to just lump everything together. I do have more art, but not alot of them are EQ2. Most of my stuff is from EQLive, and it's not nearly as good as this picture, it was done a couple years ago. This certain style was something I figured out just a week or so ago lol <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> an improvment on what I used to do. Since you'd like to see more, here's another entry for my guild's logo contest, I was thinking of making it into a bigger picture for this contest like I did with the other one. Nicely said.Screenshots to me are in-game photography.  Composition, situation, mood, etc. can be conveyed in a screenshot simularily as it can be conveyed in a photograph.  It may not be high tech or professional quality, but to convey mood you don't necessarily need the bells and whistles.   I've seen some great screenies that even unmodified show the spirit of the game, the mood of the "photographer" or an element of immersion that maybe I haven't examined.I think what was being asked for was a variety - what moves you?  Don't slap in a pretty screenshot <i>just </i>because it's good quality - put up a screenshot that moves you in some way.  At that point, it is sure to move others too.  Maybe not everyone, but someone. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />    The purpose behind any roleplaying game is immersion - whether or not you're an actual roleplayer and enjoy "being" your character full time, or maybe stepping into their shoes once and a while to tell their story, or bring them more to life.  Fan art, in any incarnation, to me is an expression of not only appreciation for the genre we're using to express ourselves, but a way of sharing what it is that moves us about the game.

Just curious- has anyone else read the terms and conditions of submitting 'fan art'? If I'm reading it correctly it states that any 'derivative' works (ie original 'fan art') are the sole property of SOE from the moment of their creation, and 'throughout the universe'! They also reserve the exclusive rights to '(in perpetuity), use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, broadcast, license, perform, post, sell, translate, create derivative works from and distribute any Submission and/or Licensed Content for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise'.In other words, as soon as you submit artwork to this site you no longer own the copyright to your own work (and therefore are no longer able to copy it, submit it anywhere else or use it for anything without permission from SOE) and SOE can do what they like with it, without telling you.And thats only a few things I noticed, reading through it in a moment of boredom <span>:smileysad:</span>Just thought people should know, it's not a terribly exciting thing to read but we need to be fully aware of what we're doing when we post our stuff here- I'm sure SOE wouldn't really snatch our hard work and sell it for themselves now would they... <div></div>

Umm...so this tangent is about us reproducing your artwork I take it. I honestly haven't seen ANY artwork reproduced yet here. While the fact remains we can use your artwork for the site, do note that we give credit to the artist. The ONLY thing this thread is about is fan art for the website, that's all. We're not looking to take your art and repro it to make money off of. That's pretty much the bottom line.
