View Full Version : Making EQ2 dresses

I'm considering making two of the dresses in EQ2: the white and gold one seen on many npcs around the cities and the blue/purple one, seen on Kitty Valencia among others. My problem is that even in the highest possible resolution screenshots, I am not getting much detail on what I think are the metal pieces of these dresses. The white one seems to have a round metal piece between the neck and the bust and one at the waist dropping to the feet. There's also the mysterious metal looking piece that doesn't appear connected to anything at the back of the neck. On Kitty, I can't tell what's metal and what's lace at her waist. My plan is to have the metal pieces created but I need to have good pictures for that.

I asked Customer Support about any of the original design art being available, and they advised me to ask here. I've looked through the gallery of art already with no success. Has anyone seen any design art for these dresses that would provide more detail?

Could you post a few pictures of the dresses? I know what your talking about with the white one but I'm not totally sure about the purple one...

Ack, the amount of gathering needed would drive me nuts. Looks to me like you'd drawstring it at every joint for authenticity, tho elastic would probably work too, lol. Maybe garters? I'll bet they use garters.

Have fun, I'm not creative enough to tackle that from scratch. Nor is my tummy flat enough to carry it off, hehe. Oh, don't forget to hide your belly button.

It's a good excuse to buy a gathering foot for my machine! Actually I think it will mean lots of the small elastic, stretched out then sew the fabric down to it, to get that gather look but still allow the garment to move. As for the stomach, is that supposed to be gold chains across it or what? Another thing I can't tell from screenshots. I'm considering whether that stomach area will require a sheer fabric just to hold the shape of the opening. Part of the back looks more like smocking than just gathering. Definitely a challenge but I'm not on any deadline here.

Kiana has the same dress - it looks to me like chains across the stomach. You might look into designs used by figure skaters and ballroom dancers to achieve that undressed look with sheer fabric. Or Vegas Showgirl costumes, lol. Or, if you're patient and quite talented, perhaps boning to shape the opening.

I want to see the woman who can carry it off without special foundation undergarments and double-sided tape, hehe!

I'll try to remember to take a screenie of Kiana in the dress - she's a half-elf and the detail might be easier to see.

The have an elastic foot that is really spiffy. What are you considering using to make the medallions/ornaments?

My daughter is a very successful cosplayer, she makes all sorts of costumes from anime drawings and such, much less than we are able to get with 3-dimensional views of our toons and their clothing. So you should be able to duplicate these pretty well if you want. One thing I might add is that is you are planning on wearing the formal one to a con or anything you will be required to wear a body stocking under it, it is just too revealing to pass the standards of any con I am aware of.I took some pics for you with my game set on highest quality (with cloth simulation of course) and put them up on photbucket here.I will post them here as well for you to view, warning, very image heavy. Edit for typo

We saw versions of both of these costumes at Fan Faire last year. I commend anyone with the skills to pull off the sewing and craftiness. My costuming thus far consists of me picking out fabric and patterns and giving them to my mom, along with shopping for pieces that I can assemble on my own, hehe.
