I snapped this the other night while running around with an alt.  I just thought it looked really pretty. Taken at High Quality with a Radeon 9800 Pro.  Unedited except that I scaled it down to fit nicely into the message board. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  (Added a very slight sharpening filter to reduce the bicubic blur caused by the scaling algorithm - but really it looks much like it did at 1280 x 1024.) <img src="http://atomicfantasy.com/samples/spirall_newbie_isle_001.jpg"> <div></div>

<DIV>yeah for sure. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I remember there was like 100 people in IoR and i was playing on High Quality with no problem. Same even when I go make a new character I always notice that IoR looks alot better. </DIV> <DIV>Guess thats how they get those "Trial of the Isle" testers to keep playing. /shrug</DIV>

Aye those look absolutely gorgeous! I wish my game looked like that - it's that I recognise the place, otherwise I'd say you're playing something else <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

<div></div><img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Well - I can't use that setting in every zone.  I can run it on the newbie island becuase it's such a small place.  But in a bigger zone or in the city my system chokes after maybe 15 minutes.  I typically play on High Performance or even Very High Performance ... and in raids and certain zones (Clefts / Solusek Eye / East Freeport / some parts of Pillars) I will even turn it all the way down to Extreme Performance. But try turning on flora, specular lighting, and atmospheric bloom at the least.  Even when everything else is set low those three things can make the game MUCH more immersive.  (And shadows make the biggest difference of all as you can see.) <div></div><p>Message Edited by Vicontessa on <span class=date_text>12-30-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:57 PM</span>

Flora (specially if its dense) and enviromental shadows are what will decrease your framerrate the most. Try with and without , and tell me =P. Of course, if you do not have lots of ram, the quality of the textures will also affect with memory leaks, but if you have enough ram, those two things are the most GPU-CPU eaters, at least with my Athlon 64 3000 ,1 gb of ram and a Radeon 9800 pro.

Shadows definitely. I think flora is more dependent on other things.  For me it does not make much difference to have it on or off. <div></div>

Shadows, especially Environmental ones will cause most systems to slow down a ton. "Character texture" detail is also a big one. I havent noticed a significant difference in "world texture detail" as far as performance goes. Particle effects can also cause problems, especially in areas with lots of them. (i.e. a group of players or raid with the default 2 effects per player, average detail particles and medium to high particle bias can really slow things down)

<div></div><p>Forgive my ignorance, but how do you take screenshots without UI?</p><p>I want to take some but not any way I know off.</p><p> </p>

The settings under particle effects are crucial becuase they work in tandem with so many other settings. For instance - the particle distance settings also affect animation frame-rate and cloth simulation; lighting such as torches and light-source effects like flickering lamps; the rendering of certain game objects like boxes and signs; the rendering of complex shader models on some types of armor and NPC's; the ambient lighting of a room or area; and of course spell effects ... and many other things. In my experience - turning down particle effects and applicable sliders affects game performance as much as turning down texture settings.<div></div>

Yeah but particles come with a tradeoff..  if you reduce the "far particle detail" setting you cant see the "shinies" from as far away... <span>:smileywink:</span><div></div>
