View Full Version : Question about soloing as an assassin

Hey all, just wondering how well assassins solo as I'm thinking about starting one up as an alt. I don't have a lot of time to group during the week so I'll be mostly soloing until the weekend and I was wondering if assassins can solo all right or if I should go with another scout class. Any comments would be appreciated.

Assassins are okay at soloing, if you mean content intended to be solo'd. Every class can solo okay. But it's slow going, esp. if they see invis. Expect to need better than average armor, defensive stance, and use lifetap poisons.

A rogue will have a much easier time soloing, if you're just looking for a assassin-like scout.

In my opinion I think assassin is great at soloing. My other char is a 65 bruiser which is one of the easiest classes to solo. I solo alot and expected a tough time when I started my assassin which is now lvl 54. Just for example, I solo'd the Zek diety quest to get my fat giant pet at lvl 52. At the end of part III you have to kill 6x lvl 58 unicorns in LFAY. Also, I did all the initial LFAY Nybryt (spelling) and Tana quest lines at lvl 51. The mobs ranged from lvl 52 to 55. I died here and there from adds just for the fact that the mob density is so thick where the treespirits and sharptooths are, however, singles weren't bad at all. I went back the other night at lvl 53 for xp and cut em to pieces. Adds were just a minor annoyance.

It really all boils down to how you play the assassin. They aren't meant for the mediocre player. There's alot involved with being a good assassin. Pretty much you have to be "on-the-ball" to play them right. I used to play my bruiser with both feet on the desk, 1 hand on the mouse, and the other holding a drink/burrito/bag of chips/anything edible but that won't cut it with the assassin. Play him right and he'll be a hell-on-wheels-mob-terrorizer. Play him half-[Removed for Content] and you'll be dead ALOT.

Agreed, its possible but not advisable if your going for an easy class to solo. I was able to take white con heroics pre EoF, but now I have trouble with just green heroics... Partly due to the deminishing return and the fact that very little of my gear was past level 63. I've upgraded alot since, but haven't tried a heroic as of my current gear.

Assassins solo just fine. I have played my Assassin almost exclusively solo. He was the last character I created, but he has passed my Monk (34), my Fury (41), and my Ranger (43, who was actually my first character), and is now level 64 and threatining to pass my Illusionist who is level 66.

The key to soloing an Assassin is knowing the class weaknesses and designing startegies around it. Many of your best hits are dependent on either stealth, position, or both. This is more difficult to obtain whenever you are the center of the mob's attention, and espeically hard when you are fighting multiple mobs who are focused on you. But, then, that is what makes playing a Predator interesting. To solo an Assassin or Ranger, your highest damage attacks are dependent on the mob paying attention to someone else, so getting them in while playing solo is a little more challenging. But that is also the fun.

Increasing your stun duration through AAs in the Assassin tree and keeping your root spell at its highest level help quite a bit. Then knowing which spells require position, which require steatlth, which ones put you into stealth, and figuring out sequences to use these skills as smoothly as possible is the fun of playing the class solo.
