Now this may have been answered somewhere along the line, but I was wondering, what makes GDoH so special? I have a feeling it's to do with the high damage, but the delay is like 4 secs?

I have been told it's good in the PH for an Assassin, but wouldnt you want a faster weapon so that it procs more?

Warden here who knows absolutly nothing about DWing or the GDoH so I know for sure I'm probably wrong hehe

Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated

weapon procs were linked to a base weapon delay of 3 iirc; a longer delay means a higher likelihood of procing.additionally, crit's from a melee weapon start at the maximum damage that weapon can make, making your crits hit higher - add this to the fact that crits and procs arent affected by haste, and that a low delay weapon will most likely hit the haste cap, and this is why long delay weapons are preferred

The main reason is it has a huge damage spread, almost 10x. The second reason is it has a 4s delay.

The bottom line is that Critical Hits are generally 30% bonus to damage. However, with weapons, the minimum crit hit is the normal high damage of the weapon +1. So, for any hit where a 30% bonus would be less than minimum crit damage, the Crit is bumped to normal max damage + 1 -- in some cases that is *much* *much* more than the normal 30%. On the GDoH, any hit below 168 on a crit is bumped to 221. So a normal hit of 20 would hit for 221 automatically when procing a crit hit. In fact, 73.5% of *all* hits (147 of a possible 200 hits) with the GDoH will gain greater than the normail 30% crit bonus by being bumped up to 221. Here's where crit mechanics and ratio of a weapon start stacking to make a big difference!

The link above points to some math that figures the following bonuses: for weapons with a 1:3 ratio, the bonus is .58 per percent of crit, 1:5 ratio is about .75 per percent of crit and 1:10 is .89 per percent of crit. What that means is that with a 1:3 weapon and 30% crit rate (reachable if you push gear and also have a bard with Don't Kill the Messenger) will have an innate 17.4% (.58 x .30) bonus in damage over time, where the same 1:10 weapon with 30% crit rate will have a 26.7% (.89 x .30) bonus in damage over time. A 1:10 weapons will have about 10% greater damage than 1:3 weapons when around 30% crit proc rate even if the weapons have similar damage ratings. It's less at our normal AA enhanced 17% rate, but still a good difference (About 6% more bonus on the 1:10 weapon over the 1:3 weapon).

Additionally, with the GDoH, the long delay of the weapon is sometimes considered a good thing, since less swings are interrupted/lost by CA's shooting off between swings instead of over them. With high haste the weapon does swings quite fast and can (and does) crit for 1200+ on a regular basis with debuffs and other factors.

Hope that helped!

Nihyn -- Guk

::edited for clarity after I read it over =)

Message Edited by Aanak on 01-17-2007 01:28 PM
